T Stands for Tuesday

Hi everyone, and Happy T with our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth where we share a drink related photo in our post. Find link in my right hand column as you are most welcome to join us.

Wow, I do not remember being this stressed out and frustrated since I was working for the phone company and that was back in 2003.

With all that is going on I have been watching everything live as it happens and not listening or watching to any news media. Also I have been reading about the virus and more online as well trying to be informed.
Getting this latest bill passed this morning in my opinion was crucial for the American workers and business's and to protect our investments as the stock market continues to tank. It would put money into the hands of workers as well. The left has their own agenda I guess and refuse to pass it. saying it helps big business's too much. My understanding is that the big business's are getting loans not free money and don't we need business's to hire workers? So much money was in this bill to help pay salaries as the workers stay home, more money for medical etc etc. I feel embarrassed to the world that they can't work together to create a bill to help Americans and not add in abortions, obamacare stuff (Pelosi), etc as hostage for passing. Someone even added in a green bill to this-ridiculous  There are also at least 5 out with the virus or self quarantine so they can't vote. (a Constitutional requirement to be present to vote)
Anyways I just had to get this off my chest to somebody haha
What really topped it off for me-- my brother posted on facebook that since he isn't ill he should be able to drive anywhere he wants as the virus doesn't sit on surfaces-ah No-so my husband sent him two links that explains the virus spread my brother got angry and unfriended both of us-craziness-complete ignorance and craziness.

I don't have much to share today. My last post had my latest painting that I shared
I was planning on painting today but I am too upset with all this right now.
I do have a plan though and am set up. I printed off one of my sunrise photos I took over the lake, and I glued two pages together in the journal-gesso two coats, and then painted a light grey over all except for the very bright yellow area in the photo.

There was a discussion on a blog friend's page I follow about if it was still art if one is to copy a photo or a picture.  My feelings for this one is that I took this photo of the sun rising over the lake one morning, so the painting should still be mine.
Do any of you painters have suggestions on what paint colors to mix for the redish area of the sky?  this photo will enlarge just click on it.
  Thanks

I started getting a Tea magazine in the mail for something different to read. I won't renew it as the recipes in this I can't modify to use for us, and this doesn't have many photos that I can use in my journal either.
I did read through the ads and found a mail order tea company to try. I splurged and I bought a bag of coffee for my husband, and lots of different green and white teas for me. They have a National Parks collection but those were all made with black teas (caffeine) except for this one the Shenandoah National Park.

They had some very interesting collections-parks-authors-etc. I ended up buying enough to meet the free shipping requirement. I always figure would rather spend the money on product and not shipping. Also I was able to choose more teas by getting them in these bags instead of the cool tins they had. I needed a new tea infuser and this lucky cat was perfect.
I really enjoyed the above tea that I tried, and am anxious to try these different blends-they all sounded really good.

This is look into the bag of tea I brewed

This is the coffee I picked up for Larry-all of the coffees were pretty expensive, this one wasn't too bad and sounded good

Since many of us are doing virtual things I thought I would share photos from online of a tea party for all of us

and coffee for Valerie and Elizabeth and any of you that prefer coffee

Oh and I just remembered I wanted to share something I saw on a sewing group in facebook-prayer flags-some are making them to hang on their porches etc. You could make these with papers too  here is a how to link  You can make them however you want to-many of us have scrap fabrics around etc. could be a fun family project

  1. Virtual tea party. Very, very cool.
Sorry the state of the world is a hot mess.
But I love that you paint. But sorry that you were too upset to.
    Here's to better days.

  2. I’d look for a color wheel to help get the sunset color, but lacking that I’d try orange, then mix in a small amount red and a small amount of white. Look at it after each addition, compare it to your photo, and adjust as needed. It’s really trial and error so go slowly. Most times I get something I like whether it’s exactly like the color in a photo or not. By the way, the photo is yours, and by that token your painting will be 100% yours as well. Definitely bona fine art! If anyone is guilty of making non-art, it’s me for copying one of your other other lake photos. Lol. Ah, a glass of wine, that should help your angst over our country’s woes. :)

  3. That is a gorgeous sunrise photo. I can't wait to see what you get when you paint it. And the beauty is that if the first try doesn't come out like you want it to, you can just paint it again. That's what I love about paint, and believe me, I often have to paint things more than once. I hope you relax with that nice glass of wine. Nothing you can do to change anything except do your best staying home. But I get what you are saying about frustrations and dealing with people and their attitudes. Happy T day. Hugs-Erika

I have done several prayer flag swaps in the past and still put them out in spring and summer just during the day in nice weather. I love the idea of sending prayers and well wishes and love in the air. Happy T day!

  9. I love your virtual T party images: great idea to share those with all of us.

I haven't bothered to read any news articles about what was going on with the latest coronavirus bill, because I KNOW it will be filled with PORK by BOTH parties, Democrat and Republican.

Did you know that the $8.3 billion coronavirus bill that passed a few weeks ago had $1 billion of it going to FOREIGN countries, to help them with their covid-19 problems? That $1 billion sure could've bought a lot of medical supplies for hospitals to use for Americans, or even just gone to Americans to help them pay their bills while they're unemployed due to the economic tsunami that is sweeping the country. Charity begins at home. If we had zero problems going on here, then maybe I would be okay with Congress (they write the bills, not the President) giving away $1 billion of OUR Tax Payer money to some other country / countries. Any lawmaker who tacked on anything into the current coronavirus bill that has nothing to do with the coronavirus should be voted out of office, regardless of which political party they are in. But Americans won't do that. We'll butt heads, split 50 / 50, pointing fingers at the opposite party.

With regard to all of your stress and worry over this, I was doing the same thing as you, so I stopped looking at the news, but continued to do a morning and evening check of the covid-19 totals for my area. When things got worse, I resumed looking at my LOCAL news only, to keep abreast of societal developments here (i.e. social distancing rules, and now the NY and CT Lock Downs). Please consider not reading live minute by minute / hour by hour updates, to reduce your stress levels. (That helped me.) Maybe check in the morning, around noon, and then in the evening (but if that will cause you problems with falling asleep, maybe don't do an evening check too close to your bedtime. Again, that helped for me.)

It's hard not to stress out. We're in uncharted territory (the whole world is). It was distressing and disconcerting for me to see so many bare grocery store shelves. By me reducing how often I looked at the news during the day, that helped reduce how stressed out I was becoming.)

    1. Good morning Annem thank you-I am feeling better this morning-I did the same and only watch our local news too so now what cities are being shut down. and they we watch the President's updates every day-and then I should turn off and stop listening to the press-they add stress. I will stop searching out more information too.
I am off to go food shopping in a few minutes first time going since all this started.
Glad you enjoyed the tea party hugs

  11. It's important to get things off you chest, always makes me feel better so I can move on 😊. Hope your frustrations ease and you find calmness soon! Your photo over the lake is stunning, I don't really paint as such so can't suggest colours to blend. I often play around with colours on some scrap paper first if I want to match something, that way I can pick or chose before committing myself to the page ...lol 😉. All those tea time treats look fabulous, I'd be happy to join you for a glass of wine though ...lol 😉. Wow, so many teas to try too - what fun! Take care and sending Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x

  12. It's still art if you are painting from a reference photo and double art, too, if you took the photograph yourself. I enjoyed the tea party and the prayer flags remind me of my garden kites. They always make me feel better to see them fluttering in the Zensical garden. Take care and Happy T Day

  13. Yes, there is a lot going on right now but I have found that stressing over things I can't change can be detrimental to health. Whatever will be will be...so I just do my part to the best I can and pray.
Drinking tea is a great way to relax during this time and I loved seeing all the different kinds you bought. I am going to have to check out that company. Your kitty infuser is very cute. The best infuser I ever bought was from Teavana. It has held up for 10 plus years. I also love the infusers that fit right onto the rim of my mugs. I got several off of Amazon and they have held up as well.
Love seeing your journal in progress. Enjoy the painting process and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
The prayer flags is a great idea. I am going to have to look these up and get some ideas.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate
And to answer your question from my blog, my issue isn't a food allergy as I am on a elimination diet. I love making sourdough for my family but I don't eat it myself, sadly. I am interested in learning how to make GF sourdough but all the flours are quite expensive so that is a deterrent.

  14. That photo is beautiful. Lots of lavenders and grays to go with the reds and oranges. Some yellow in it, too. I'm sure you will have fun playing around with the colors and I see at last four new paintings coming out of this one photo you took.

I might actually make a prayer flag or two during my 22 days of recycling in April. It's always a great way to use your scraps.

Sorry about your brother. I fear it's because we have no clear direction and are being torn apart along political lines. Want to see how Great Britain handled it? See how Boris Johnson, who originally was against any and all lock downs (also a bit skeptical about the virus), handled it. His was a bold move and I applaud him for his action.

Thanks for the virtual tea and coffee party. I really enjoyed it. And I enjoyed your wine, too. Thanks for sharing this with us for T this Tuesday.

  15. Hello-By the way-it IS totally fine to copy and use photos-your own of course, or those on photo sharing sites like Pixabay. You can use any of their photos and even sell paintings made from them. Depending on the red you have, you might want to mix a bit of black with it. You'll see how it goes as you do it.
So sorry your brother got so hot.
I surely agree with you about the political stuff.

  16. As an unofficial representative of the left, I'd love to share why that Republican Senate bill was such a disaster ;) I'll offer this as a good start: https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/03/coronavirus-stimulus-slush-fund-trump-bailout-corporations-senate.html We on the left want to make sure funds go to workers and worker protections and not to corporate executive bonuses and stock buy-backs. And why should Mnuchin get to decide which corporations get the money and then get to hide which companies get the money for 6 months? :( And why the heck should we bail out cruise ship companies which fly under foreign flags to avoid paying taxes here? There is a better way. There must be. And I'm hoping they find it. They'd be a lot closer if McConnell hadn't taken that long week-end to KY for that event with Brett Kavanaugh *sigh*

I love this kinda talk ;)

Both chambers have rules requiring members be present to vote, but it's not a constitutional requirement. The constitutional requirement is that there must be a quorum on the floor to hold a vote. The Senate could change its rules to allow sick members to vote electronically -via Zoom, maybe?- if a quorum was present and in session.

I won't get into the abortion issue, but wasn't it Republicans who tried to put anti-abortion language in? You're right, there's no place for non-related issues being included in the bill.

We're under a 14-day shelter-in-place order for 14 days here in Memphis beginning at midnight tonight. Since office supply stores and lawn care companies have been designated "essential" and get to stay open I'm thinking my definition of "essential" isn't the one they're using lol

I love trying new teas! The smells, the tastes... such fun :) The tea party looks so pretty. I'll enjoy the time together, apart ;)

    Happy T Tuesday!

    2. I did read the link you shared-I have watched allot of live stuff on and off today-I got that the senate did not have enough votes to get part of the bill through--its all a mess--and I am thinking both sides write what their base wants to hear--bottom line for me is Pelosi adding in green bill, union stuff and whole list of stuff that has nothing to do with this aid-she thinks she get what ever she wants and out of desperation for helping the workers she gets what she wants-I hope President does not sign it if that is the case

  17. What a lovely T-party, Kathy. Perfect for the world we live in. Here's a toast to you.

Hubby watches and follows the news all day. He has always enjoyed keeping up on things in general, and especially politics and current events. But I don't.

He sends me links to anything I should know about and that might interest me. I'm looking at more news than usual myself, but I limit myself to checking local news on COVID and the worldwide picture of statistics and charts once a day.

In the reddish part of the photo, I see amber, yellow, orange, pink and rose. You have no problem calling this YOUR art. "REAL" (lol) artists take photos to work from all the time. They also use reference images from the internet. No worries, Kathy. Just have fun.

So much has changed recently that effects us all, it is so easy to get stressed with all the news programs that are on our TV's and radios. I was sad for you to read about your brother's attitude, especially when we may need our families more in the coming weeks.
Its not just in your part of the world that people are thinking its okay to ignore the guidelines. The mentality of people and some were on our news this evening, is hard to believe. Because they are feeling well today doesn't mean they will be tomorrow or have spread the virus to others. My rant over for the day.
I loved the photo you shared of the sunrise and those prayer flags looked beautiful.

  21. Oh dear, I can tell you are frustrated and upset (and stressed). Please don't. Switch off that news feed and if you must, just listen/watch the resume at the end of the day, or stick to some local news in the evening. Concentrate on positive things, as the things you see on the news feed are things you cannot do anything about at the moment, so just stay calm and stay home. That is the most useful thing you can do at the moment.
Busy yourself with are, and spinning. Cook up something yummy. enjoy your special tea, agonise over the colours of the sunset.
And lets have a tea party! I enjhoyed the party you laid out! Thank you. Remember to raise your pinkie (little finger) when you sip the tea from that beautiful cup!

We started watching old series of Frasier, some of which we haven't seen, which is giving us a daily smile.
As for mixing colours, certainly with water colours I start with basic colours on my palette then add shades of those and use water to drag them outwards to use.
Even though I don't drink tea I love the colour of your tea, nice to have an interesting coffee for hubby too!
