A Movie on Saturday

I have not shared a movie in awhile, so when I caught this one on the tv this past week, I knew I wanted to share it.

Richard Gere movies are usually very moving with life messages and in the end I am crying.

We have the movie channels as my husband doesn't watch any shows with too many commercials any more. I hardly ever find something I want to watch, I scan through and usually nothing catches my interest-but this one did.

It's an old movie that I had not heard of before, filmed in 2000

                                          Autumn in New York

Movie and Chex Mix

   Happy Saturday everyone,

I am a bit later for posting today, as I went grocery shopping very early morning soon after they opened (less people that way) and after bringing everything indoors and getting it where it belongs-I decided to rake up more leaves and burn.

After being in the 20's and low 30's f most of last week, today was a treat with warmer weather and full sunshine. Along the driveway nearest to the upper level where I park my car-the wind brings down allot of leaves along that area. I bagged up one bag at a time and burned it and then got more-ended up doing 4 huge leaf bags. That area is half finished now. We are to have a few more days like this so hoping to finish as long as no wind.

I wanted to share my favorite vintage Christmas Movie-a must see for me every year.  I probably shared it last year too.  I never got into It's a Wonderful Life like most do. I haven't seen that one in probably 40 years or more I probably should give it another watch one day.

                                            White Christmas

I probably enjoy White Christmas so much, because my parents when we were growing up enjoyed musical movies. My Mom also took us into Chicago to see these shows on Broadway.-wow that was a Veryyy long time ago lol Good memories though-she always got us front row seats in the first balcony.

Do you make Chex mix for the holidays into the New Year?  I don't make it every year, I tend to eat too much at once -cause it is so good-and then regret it later. 😐 It also can have allot of added salt in it. I never add the flavored salt they suggest.

I had been thinking about making up a big batch, and then a comment came in on my last blog post and that did it-Yes I want to make some. I choose gluten free cheerios, rice and corn cereals and will add gluten free cheese crackers and pretzels. I will leave out the nuts this year. My stomach is Not liking nuts right now.  I was glad I had the Worcestershire sauce in the frig. as the store did not have one bottle of it on the shelves this morning.

This unknown commenter must have been searching online for the original Chex mix recipe and my 2011 post popped up.  This is a very informative post about the history of Chex mix and the recipes.

"Wanted to thank you for your old post on the history of Chex Party Mix. I remember my Mom making it way back in the 50's and it had Kix corn cereal (There were no corn chex back then.) in it. Friends said I was NUTS - now I know one of the original recipes DID have Kix in it! You should repost that to this site for posterity. The information is hard to find!"

Do you remember the Kix corn cereal? I do and am wondering now if it is still available to purchase. I didn't see it where I shopped today.

I also did another post that I shared a gluten free version  I was going to save these two posts for Second on the 2nd come January but decided to share now in case you are looking for recipes.

   Happy Saturday and weekend everyone

A Christmas Movie for Saturday & My Christmas Tree

I know I know many of my readers are not into Hallmark movies but I did really enjoy this one.

This one came out in 2018

More information about the movie here

Preview

I don't always put up a Christmas tree-it has always been just the two of us and Larry is Jewish so he is not into Christmas trees all that much, but he doesn't mind that I enjoy one.  A few years ago I did a big splurge for me and bought a Balsam Hill mini tree (on sale), it had lights on it already and is really a lovely tree. It was perfect near our wood stove in the living room.

Here at the lake house there are very few electric outlets but there is one in a perfect place that I can use for my craft light near the couch and the same one is perfect for this little tree in front of the window. I tried different things to set it on, most were too tall tall so I am using one of the old cheese boxes I have my dyed wool in-perfect height.

When I do put up a tree I do it Thanksgiving weekend so I can enjoy it for a month and then I take it all down New Year's Day

Here are a few photos, and my sister in law and her daughter and husband dropped by Friday to pick me up to visit a nearby cave (will share that for T) and came back for pie and Christmas shopped here on their devices since they have no internet at their own lake house. She snuck a couple of photos of me too.

The elf ornament to the far right has quite a story. Each of us three kids got one, my brother has my sister's. One Christmas as children when we went to Chicago the theme was these elves. One bakery we went to had smaller versions for ornaments so Mom bought us each one.

Quite a few years ago the little country store close to the woods house had unique Christmas things-Larry picked up several of these Santa fish ornaments. To the left is a very vintage santa claus my Mom had when we were kids

This was my late sister's favorite ornament so I kept it

My Mom collected angels, this crystal one is perfect for the topper

    Happy Thanksgiving weekend to everyone

Happy First Day of August and Another Watercolor Pencil (Painting) & a Movie for Saturday

Happy August everyone, even though July was extremely hot and humid here in the Ozarks the month really flew by fast-don't know why but it did.

Last Thursday and yesterday (Friday) we finally got a good soaking of rain-much needed here-with much cooler temperatures-We really needed a break in the weather.

Friday for most of the morning, I worked on another painting with my watercolor pencils and in my watercolor small journal.

I am pleased with this one for the most part-but I am now ready to put the pencils away for a bit and bring out my watercolor paints.
I will make up a color chart with the paints I am using-have seen these charts referenced in several places now and sounds like a good idea for me-I will have a chart that I can look at to see what color mixed with what color paint will give me what color. (hope that made sense) 😀

The video I had watched about watercolors was really helpful to me, and she did show how to mix colors onto watercolor paper with the pencils-but I think I am more comfortable now and ready to use the paints. I have a better feel with these watercolors opposed to painting with acrylics. and the colors I have in the pencils are very limited.

This was my reference photo-and after I took this photo-I realized I wanted something more on the right upper green area  I didn't want blue water because it isn't blue with all the clouds-so this the closest I could come for the colors.  The white pencil doesn't show up so I use a bit of black for the direction of the water flow.

I like it better now adding in the tree

My movie share is The Longest Ride-I watched it on the tv the other day. If you like the author Nicholas Sparks this is based on one of his books-It's a good one.

Happy Saturday!

After seeing the movie I will be reading the book soon.

If you love animals you will love this movie:

Movie for Saturday

I thought I would join in and share an old movie this week.

I was looking for something to watch tonight-Friday-and there is just nothing on the tv I care to watch most nights. So I have been reading books instead.
I really miss sports-I am the sports watcher in the house haha I was so enjoying the pro hockey games, I watch a little baseball-if the Royals are winning, and I was looking forward to the Olympics but that has been moved to next year I think they said.

I came upon some really old westerns-Bonanza, The Virginian etc and then for a movie I found John Wayne movies and also Women Westward-a three hour movie but loaded with commercials-looked interesting but will look for it another day-I should have recorded it though so I could zap out all the commercials-sooooo many of those these days on those off channels.

I thought I would share this one with you Women Westward from 1951, because it looked interesting-when watching old movies like this, one needs to have an open mind of the time period-and these old ones were rather "dorky" too lol part of their charm

Here is a trailer

Here is a link about the movie

About the movie:
There's a deficit of good, honest women in the West, and Roy Whitman (John McIntire) wants to change that. His solution is to bring a caravan of over 100 mail-order brides from Chicago to California. It will be a long, difficult and dangerous journey for the women. So Whitman hires hardened, cynical Buck Wyatt (Robert Taylor) to be their guide across the inhospitable frontier. But as disaster strikes on the trail, Buck just might discover that these women are stronger than he thinks.

This is a part that I saw-women with spunk lol

Happy Saturday

Hearts Journal Page for AJJ & Update on the Groundhog Movie I shared

Today while watching the parade in Kansas City for the Chiefs (I discovered I had the NFL channel in my sports package so could watch this) and also listening off and on to the impeachment trial I worked on a journal page for AJJ with Bleubeard and Elizabeth's them: Hearts.

I brought out different papers, and looked through my folder of magazine pages and with trial and error-made this double page.

I found the rose paper so glued that down on my page-then played around with a magazine page that celebrated love and Valentine's with cast iron mini heart cakes and roses. I wanted to use the cast iron image so decided to make a second page. The roses and quote were all on the cast iron magazine page.
I stamped down two different hearts and added the dark chocolate quote from the cellophane  paper that was inside a chocolate candy box.
I also glued down a page under the cast iron hearts.

Note: all photos will enlarge just click on them

I am really happy with this journal spread and was fun to put together.

We also have a wintry day-a coating of ice then about 4 inches of snow and will continue to snow off and on through the night.  The weather people had changed the total to up to 8 inches of snow so we'll see. I was going to shovel off the driveway late this afternoon but the temperature dropped and was very windy-don't need to get sick out there.

Stay warm and safe everyone-this storm is headed east

Oh and I have not seen this commercial on tv yet but just found it on facebook-my sister in law shared it. This is based on the Groundhog movie I shared over the weekend-love this-so fun.

Saturday Afternoon Movie & a Trip Down the Past

Since Sunday is Groundhog Day I thought I would share the movie:

                                       Groundhog Day

A fun movie with Bill Murray where he keeps waking up to the same day.
I was bored with this movie-but it was memorable because it was filmed in 1993 at Woodstock, Illinois's town square-just down the road from where we lived. So of course all of the locals were excited about the movie crew coming to town.
I remembered this was fun to see them change up some of the stores on the square for the movie.
Woodstock square is still unique with it's brick paved road around the square of shops and business's, and at the time we lived there a very old large post office. In the center of the square is a grassy area with a large gazebo type structure that would hold ice cream socials and music in the warmer months. The town would also close off the square to traffic and hold huge craft and art shows-I really enjoyed those when we lived in that area-before 2003

Found online  A cynical TV weatherman finds himself reliving the same day over and over again when he goes on location to the small town of Punxsutawney to film a report about their annual Groundhog Day. His predicament drives him to distraction, until he sees a way of turning the situation to his advantage.
Release dateFebruary 12, 1993 (USA)

This movie got good reviews

I looked up some photos of the square in Woodstock Illinois

An article on the town for the movie click here
This was the town's-and hub's favorite bakery-everything from scratch-doing this search I discovered the new owners closed it-that's sad They were world famous for their huge cinnamon rolls. an article here of the history of the bakery
Swiss Maid Bakery in Woodstock will close for good Saturday.

Happy Saturday-my second on the 2nd post is previous to this one

A Football Movie

Happy Saturday! Since this is a big football weekend I thought I would share a very funny football movie.
I laugh every time I see it-love the two main characters and well it's just a fun movie.

The Replacements

The pros were on strike so they put together this team

Information about the movie here     and  The movie was loosely based on the 1987 NFL strike, specifically the Washington Redskins, who won all three replacement games without any of their regular players and went on to win Super Bowl XXII at the end of the season.

A Movie

Sorry I am a bit late for the movie share.
I jumped right in this morning mixing up cookie batter to put in the frig and now I have chocolate popcorn in the oven-sooo good.

I went for a search online for Christmas movies and found one I always enjoyed, but haven't seen it on the tv so far this season.

   While You Were Sleeping

Below found online:

Lonely transit worker Lucy Eleanor Moderatz (Sandra Bullock) pulls her longtime crush, Peter (Peter Gallagher), from the path of an oncoming train. At the hospital, doctors report that he's in a coma, and a misplaced comment from Lucy causes Peter's family to assume that she is his fiancée. When Lucy doesn't correct them, they take her into their home and confidence. Things get even more complicated when she finds herself falling for Peter's sheepish brother, Jack (Bill Pullman)

This is really a fun family movie at Christmas time, I love all the actors too

Update: Chocolate Popcorn out of the oven

A Movie Today

Happy Saturday everyone,
I thought I would join Elizabeth and CJ today with a movie.
Of course a Christmas movie-since I love them lol

The Holiday

  About the movie here

I don't think our Elizabeth would like this one at all since it's a "chick" film, but I found it to be a good one. Not too sappy, loved all the actors.

Two women one in England and one in America were fed up with guys and decided to do some different for themselves and swap homes for a vacation getaway. They both ended up meeting someone special.  I couldn't find a trailer with the other part of the story which was really special more here

This got mixed reviews I really enjoyed it, and watch it every year

I Know It's Not Saturday Yet But This Movie Has Not Yet Been Released

  Hi Everyone,
I really wanted to share this movie release with you. One of my friends on facebook posted the movie trailer. I don't get excited much about most movies but I am about this one.

I have heard of this author, but I have yet to read any of his books-the new movie with Harrison Ford is based on this book. Originally written for school children: Call of the Wild by Jack London which is about a St Bernard dog named Buck that ends up in the Yukon

So Of course I checked on amazon for my kindle reader and found a copy for 60 cents, and one for 99 cents that has some extras.

and here is the trailer:

This movie is to be released February 2020.
This is the first I have learned about this movie, perhaps you all have heard about it already but wanted to share. They have been filming since this September

Here is another link about the movie.  and here as well

When I was looking around about this movie I discovered this has been a movie before with Rutger Hauer  here  Did not know that I always liked him too in the movies more information here

Saturday and a Movie

Some of us share movies for Saturday, sometimes I join in and so does our Elizabeth, and CJ always has a movie for us.

The other day Larry recorded a movie and said he thought I would like it. Our movie tastes are very very different.  This one was an excellent movie, a very awesome cast of actors-I loved all of them, and a message.

An Unfinished Life

Image result for movie an unfinished life

Yes the cast was outstanding. From rotten tomatoes more information and photos the film is from 2005-first I heard of it.

Trailer:

This description from Rotten Tomatoes  above link

Two generations of a damaged family are brought together in this emotional drama. Einar Gilkyson (Robert Redford) was a once successful rancher whose spread went to seed after he developed a serious drinking problem. Now on the wagon, Einar looks after what's left of his spread with his friend Mitch (Morgan Freeman), a one-time cowhand who never fully recovered after being mauled by a bear. Einar once had a son named Griffin, but he died in a car wreck while Griffin's wife, Jean (Jennifer Lopez), was driving; Einar never forgave her for the death, and he had never met the granddaughter she was carrying until she arrived at his doorstep 11 years later. Jean has become involved with a violent man named Gary (Damian Lewis), and seeks refuge on Einar's ranch for the safety of her daughter, Griff (Becca Gardner). Einar reluctantly takes in Jean and Griff, giving them a place to stay as Jean looks for work and tries to put her life back together. But old trouble makes its way back to town in two ways -- Gary tracks down Jean and wants to make her pay for leaving him, while the bear who attacked Mitch comes down from the mountains looking for new prey. An Unfinished Life was adapted from the novel of the same name by Mark Spragg. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A Saturday Movie Share & Pizza-Homemade of Course

Some of us share a movie on Saturdays-check out CJ and sometimes Elizabeth (and Bleubeard) share a movie too.

I thought I would look for another halloween film-that again is not horror or too scary 😀  This one is for my husband-he has always been a big fan of Tim Burton and I actually enjoyed this one too.

The Nightmare Before Christmas-so it's kinda a Christmas movie too

Image result for The Nightmare Before Christmas

About the movie here   The film has interesting history which you can read at the link if interested-I found it good to know about this film-it started out as his poem and then he tried to get it into a short film for tv that didn't work out-and years later had success with a movie

Found this summary online

The film follows the misadventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown's beloved pumpkin king, who has become bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the "real world." When Jack accidentally stumbles on Christmastown, all bright colors and warm spirits, he gets a new lease on life -- he plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the role. But Jack soon discovers even the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton men can go seriously awry.

The trailer

and searching this movie out I discovered a part 2 which I Just read will not be a film but a comic book-interesting indeed here is a video about it

By Tyler McCarthy, | Fox News. To usher in the 25th anniversary of Tim Burton's cult masterpiece “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” fans are finally getting a sequel, but it won't be in the form of a movie. It's been announced that Jack Skellington and company will be getting a new animated appearance in 2018.Jul 31, 2017

I looked on amazon and I must say I am confused as there are several different books-not sure if it is this one mentioned above or these are spin offs of some sort. If any one knows I would like to know more.

Happy weekend and movie Saturday

I made our homemade pizzas today-Larry's first as his crust had the 450 f degrees and mine was a new recipe for the crust that baked at 350 f degrees. plus with this oven I can only bake one at a time.
Both pizzas were excellent and the new recipe I tried for me was really good-most of the time they don't turn out at all-here is the link  Only thing I did different with the recipe was to substitute 1/2 cup of almond flour for some of the gluten free flour blend.

I saved out two pieces for each of us for tomorrow and will freeze the rest for later.

A Saturday Movie

Since it's halloween month I thought I would look for a movie-that was not too scary lol
I am not someone who enjoys movies too spooky, horror, zombies etc. You would not find me in one of those haunted houses set up for halloween either.
So searching all I found were movies I would Not watch-but I did find a movie I loved-and am sure you have all seen it.

It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.

Information here  This movie came out in 1966 when I was junior in high school.  Still watch if I see it on. Just fun

There is also a book that was published on it's 40th anniversary 2006 It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: The Making of a Television Classic

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: The Making of a Television Classic: Schulz, Charles M.; ...

I did find online the movie from cbs  here  It's around 49 minutes.

Saturday Afternoon at the Movies

It is sooooo hot and humid here that we are both really feeling the weather, so stayed home at the woods house today. Sleeping, reading, watching the television. We are approaching 100 degrees f actual temperature not counting the heat index. A bit too hot for us, and Hubs needed a day to do nothing today (friday).

I was thinking of a summer time movie to share and State Fair came to mind.
I have seen the 1962 version several times in the past but just discovered there was also a 1945 first version that had gotten better reviews.  There was also a broadway version even earlier.
I also discovered a 60th anniversary dvd   that was released in 2005 that describes more about the history of this film.

I am taking a saori style weaving class for making a bracelet which will
have some weaving tapestry techniques
and also a four hour indigo dye class in the afternoon.
I left my camera up at the lake house thinking
we would be there today-sigh I will see if I can use Hubs camera.

Happy weekend-and stay cool everyone that also has hot weather.

Afternoon at the Movies

  Happy weekend everyone!
I wanted to pop in and share a movie for Saturday but nothing came to mind so checked to see what was playing during my birthday year 1949

I found John Wayne staring in The Fighting Kentuckian.
I always loved these really old John Wayne movies, he did some good navy ones too.

Saturday Afternoon at the Movies

Saturdays are movie sharing day, I got the idea from CJ and Elizabeth joins in too.

I did not have a movie in mind this week. I did watch on HBO The Deadwood movie which was the follow up of the series from 16 years or so ago. This was an excellent show (if you can get past all the swearing) and it was language and period correct, based on historical facts with excellent acting and director.  The show was a success but for some reason which I don't remember why now abruptly ended. It was amazing that they brought back all the original characters.
Anyways figuring this one was not on the big screen I decided not to share-but see I actually did lol   If you have HBO it's there or probably can stream it.

Elizabeth shared Legally Blond which was really a good movie, fun and addressed allot of social issues as well. I really liked it and have watched it several times.  So I decided to share:

Legally Blond 2 which is the follow up and also addressed issues-testing on animals.

More about the movie here  and Here

from online:   Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) journeys to Washington, D.C., to have her say about animal rights, but is ignored by every politician she encounters and quickly learns that the White House can be even tougher to navigate than the Ivy League. Finally, Elle makes the acquaintance of sympathetic Rep. Victoria Rudd (Sally Field), who helps the young lawyer get her foot in the door of Congress. Unfortunately, Elle still has to convince the entire legislature to hear her out.
