New Journal Page-Green & New Technique

I was looking through some magazines before either ripping out things to use, or putting aside to pass on-when I found the perfect inspiration for green.

I had a really difficult time taking photos as this is glossy paper. I ended up getting some of the photos by opening up a stamp drawer and placing the journal in there 😀

I also used a new to me technique by using cardboard to use as a stamp-this  was sandwiched inside of cardboard for extra strength in shipping-I will keep a look out for these type of pieces to repurpose.

I grabbed this metallic gold ink and inked over the cardboard, placed my page over it and used the roller to press down on the ink.
I thought this kinda looked liked bee honeycombs

I cut this piece out of a magazine, stamped it as above, when dry colored in the white background with this gel pen

It turned out pretty nice I think, the metallic ink takes a good 24 hours to dry

The top half of this green magazine page had these birds singing. I remembered I had some old sheet music-and found the perfect thing-"there's a song in the air"
I took a green pencil and colored in the white sheet music

I added the bees to my page, and spotted this little wooden chicken button singing-so had to add her in too as the yellows matched (another fun button from Mia)

With the glare from the glossy papers, to I am thinking that perhaps since the glue is still wet-I could not eliminate all of the glare-I took at least 40 photos haha this is the best one.

I am sharing with AJJ and TIOT

    1. Hi Linda this cardboard came in a very well packaged heavy air conditioner/heater Larry bought for the garage. there was a thin layer of cardboard and paper on either side of this-pealed I noticed there was something in the middle-so pealed off one side.

  6. Gorgeous piece Kathy, love the stamping. It's usually possible to speed up the drying of the ink with a heat tool or hairdryer. Hugs, Valerie

  8. Two beautiful pages, Kathy. Green is my favorite color so I love them. This cardboard, looking like honeycombs, is amazing! I don't know if there is this cardobard in Greece, but I will look for it. You created a lovely gold/green background. And the funny rooster button fits perfect!!! Hugs, my dear friend. Thank you for the inspiration.

  12. I need to look out for some of that cardboard like you have used - what a terrific effect and it does, indeed, look like honeycomb. (I love bees and anything to do with them, it is on our city emblem and was taken as a memorial figure when we had the terrible bombing May 2017. I now have a bee necklace and ear rings but couldn't quite manage the tattoo that others got - too wimpy)
I love how you coloured the white areas gold on that piece of paper, it looks very effective.
You have made two really lovely pages and should be pleased with them.
    Hugs, Neet xx

  13. Fantastic journal pages Kathy, you got an amazing honeycomb effect with the packaging and I think it must have been a fun technique to try. The green shades look so good for the background to the focal images you added.

  14. I apologize for taking so long to visit. I had trouble keeping my internet going. I'm definitely trying to play catch up right now.

Well, aren't you the recycle queen for a day! What a fabulous find. Certainly better than corrugated cardboard. MOST impressive. I love how you created the ombre effect, the adorable bees, and the vintage sheet music you incorporated, too. These pages are perfect for Eileen's theme at Art Journal Journey. BTW, I also have trouble trying to photograph glossy magazine pages, too. Don't feel bad. If you ever find out how to get them without the glare, let me know. It affects all of us who use magazine images, I'm sure.

    1. Hi Elizabeth, no worries at all-you have many sites to visit.
I have always used recycled fibers-taking apart clothing-wool, linen, silk, cottons to re purpose so am working on that for my journal pages too. Yes this was really difficult with the glare-putting my journal page in a darker corner of the room-in one of my stamp drawers helped allot

  16. I've been enjoying messing around in journals, painting and gluing and drawing. In fact, I've decided that past diaries that I never used will be turned into glue books. There's something satisfying about gathering pictures, ripping, cutting, gluing. :) Have fun.
