Another Journal Painting for AJJ

  Hi everyone,
Hope you are all well. Those of you in the worse areas that are in a lock down to prevent the virus spread my heart goes out to you the most right now. Missouri is still not in real bad shape. Cases and deaths seem to be in the large cities but the numbers are not real high as of yet. I am running out of fresh salad veggies, and I need more yogurt and eggs but I am a bit concerned about going to stores and bringing the virus back home to Larry-his immune system would not to be able to fight a bad case of this. I will decide Monday if I want to go to the store or not as Sunday we have storms and cold moving in again. I find myself a bit on edge-so am using painting to relax-I am also spinning another roving. From my big bag of Yellowstone inspired colors.

I wanted to do at least one more entry for AJJ with Eileen's theme green since we had the first day of spring this week too.

I decided to use the view out my window while sitting in my craft room for inspiration. I didn't get to learning more about painting water and skies so that has not improved much.  I tried to paint in simple boat docks but I did not like them so painted over them. In doing that I ended up changing the blue tones in the sky and the water. I also had an idea for the light in the grassy areas but I realized that had gotten thrown off when I changed the sky to darker. Soooo I decided to do a watery grey wash to tone down the light in the grass and to hopefully create a storm coming in effect.

View out my window while sitting at my desk (all photos will enlarge just click on them)

I ended up painting in the path that is behind the fire pit into the front of the fire pit

Some days the sky and lake water do look the same color so this painting reflects that

I thought it would be more interesting to get a couple docks in to break up the water space-but just did not like them

I did enjoy working in this new journal-the pages are larger and glossy. I glued three pages together and then painted two coats of gesso and then a light green wash on top of that. The one art teacher I am following always paints his canvas first with a color tone that will go with his painting-he likes the white covered up-so I started doing that

I do really like the wet pallet set up-keeps me from wasting paints.

Our tv provider which is part of our electric coop turned on for free lots of movie channels so families would have more tv to watch-thought that was nice of them. and I know many of you don't like Christmas movies but sometimes they are just good feeling movies-Hallmark channel is running those all weekend.

Stay safe everyone

  1. Another great painting, Kathy. And what a lovely idea to get inspired by your view. As for the wet pallet set up, this seems really interesting. Hugs, my dear friend, and please stay home as much as you can.

  2. Nice yarn Kathy and nice painting too. It is perfect for Eileen's challenge, so thanks for sharing. And I know what you mean about going to the store. I am trying to find the least crowded time, but also time when there are still things to buy. It wasn't too bad this morning and I was able to keep a lot of space, but I stocked up enough so I don't have to go back for a bit. It is pretty scary when we have to think about going to buy groceries, isn't it? Hugs-Erika

    1. Yes it just got me the other day-about being scary to go out of the house. I am glad that the governor finally locked down Kansas city area as most of the lake homes where I am are summer homes for people that live in that area-a couple families have gotten out of the city before this and staying in their lake homes-a more positive environment though for sure

  3. Beautiful painting, and staying home is perhaps wise just now. I have to stay home, too, because of my auto-immune sickness, and I don't like it, but so what? We will have to swallow it down! Have fun watching your movies. Hugs, Valerie

  4. Oh, that roving and yarn is stunning! I’m glad you are using the chocolate recipe book. An excellent painting, another prim/folk art style, I think!

  5. News report this morning suggested that washing the outside of containers, washing your veggies, and then washing your hands should be enough to keep the virus away if it was on a surface. I had my husband wipe down the things he got at the hardware store with a disinfectant wipe while we were in the parking lot, before he put them in the car, then use a fresh one on his hands. I may be going overboard, but in my mind, better safe than sorry. Stay well!!

  6. I can see your painting skills getting better with each painting. The best advice-just keep painting!!! That stay-wet thing for paints is a very good idea.
Yes, my state is pretty much on lock down now. My husband works at a place that is an essential factory, but of course-that's scary for him-lots of truckers come to get the product-and they only last Monday prevented the truckers from coming inside the building. But no one could really know the ferociousness of this bug until more positive tests and deaths were counted.

  8. If it's any encouragement the Kroger stores here are wiping down carts as they bring them back in, employees are wearing gloves and not handling your cards or re-usable bags. I'd advise going at a time you think fewer people will be there.

Your fire pit will be so nice as the weather gets better :)

  9. Going out grocery shopping is scary.
Most stores have elderly hour at opening. Not everyone had gray hair as in probably have health issues or someone at home.

  11. Wonderful painting of the view from your window. Stores here are offering (very) early morning hours for Elders and other vulnerable groups to shop. Maybe check the store's website tonight. Take care.

  12. The view from your window is beautiful. Love your painting too. Must be so nice living on the water. Maybe your local stores are doing curbside delivery - ours is and we are way out in the country. They found an online company that does it for them so it is cool. Love the colors on your yarn - that is so impressive you know how to spin it. Wow.

I am super good with spinning a fine and consistent yarn-but I love the process and I can always weave with it. I think the wal mart does that I order online and then pick up at curbside have not tried that out as of yet thanks

I love the colour of the yarn you are spinning as well.
Its difficult to know how safe it is to go to the shop [ or here in the UK] wait for a home delivery slot the waiting time can be 10 days or more.
    Stay safe and well Kathy

  15. I confess. I LOVE Christmas movies. The cheesy silly ones and then the real good ones. I love them all. I also love that you're using your art to help you through these times. That's a wonderful thing. PS: Hi. I'm Ivy. I forget which blog I found you on but went to your old page and now here on your new one. Blogging is fun. PPS: I love the view outside your craft room. I have a view outside my studio/kitchen. It's just lovely.

    2. Lake home sounds wonderful. We live in a rural area. Lots of trees in our back yard though we rent our land. But we own our trailer. Yes, Christmas movies are fun. Even the bad ones I like.

  16. I like the painting and I LOVE THE YARN!!!!! This virus thing is getting scarier by the day. A lot of the counties close to us are under "STAY AT HOME" orders. We are not yet but it probably wont be long. I need to go to the basement and take inventory what I have left of canned foods from the garden. Not mush as last year was such a horrible garden season. I am starting more seeds this year than I have in several years. HOpefully all will do well .

  17. I'm not sure you will even see this comment. I'm sure you've noticed I've been offline. Just when I think my internet is stable again, I get kicked off.

I agree with you on the grocery trip. EVERYTHING that comes in my house gets sprayed. I spray cans, boxes, jars, bottles from the grocery store. I don't take my own bags, either. I wear gloves whenever I'm outside in case I touch something. I spray my mailbox once a week, the handle daily, and all my mail. Once I'm inside, I spray the contents of the mail. I'm not going to let ANYTHING get past me. CJ suggests waiting 72 hours on your porch or garage, but I want to put everything away, including my ice cream. I take wipes with me when I go shopping. If the store doesn't provide them, I use them to wipe the cart. However, I never take my gloves off, even when giving them money. If I get change, I wrap it in my wipe until I get home. I prepare for the worst case scenario and hope for the best.

You are SO lucky to get FREE movies, but I'll skip the Christmas ones. It's bad enough HMM and Lifetime show them from Oct. through the first week in January. Your co-op is great.

I really LIKE your fire pit. Did you build it, or was it there? Is that a house next to yours that you see out the window? Inquiring minds and all. I'm glad you are continuing to pursue your painting. It's great. Thanks for once again sharing your art with us at Art Journal Journey using Eileen's green theme.

    1. Hi Elizabeth, I braved the food store and went Wednesday morning early-half way there I ran into screen of thick fog all the way to the store. I was thankful for that-Less people buying food haha. I am buying what I can at Sams club online-It's coming one package a day-must be costing them allot in shipping-I get free shipping. they still do not have any sanitary wipes either but I was able to buy some t paper online at sams club and my laundry supplies.
Yes we built the fire pit from rock that was around on the property-and we brought the grill. Yes that is our neighbors house looking out that window-they are very friendly and nice people.
I am having fun with the paints-terrible at it but so far fun
