T Stands for Tuesday-Back to the Loom

    Hello Friends,

Welcome also to the T gang where we share a drink related photo in our post and link up over at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's to gather with friends.

Over the weekend we were quite chilly, and I needed to switch over to heat. The house was in the low 60's and this is a bit too cold for us now. Wishing the woodstove here worked (last owner had a major chimney fire) as it's perfect weather to burn some wood to take the chill off.

Saturday was my husband's birthday so I made his favorite food-bbq baby back ribs. I had planned to go outdoors and grill these on the weber grill but it was just damp and cold all day so I made them in the slow cooker instead. They turned out really well, but I like the results better in the oven. I didn't think to take photos-a simple meal with sliced avocado, cucumber, sweet peppers, and french fries that I cooked up in a cast iron skillet.

We had gotten quite allot of rain last week, and then turning cold it wasn't ideal for me to work outdoors-so I finished threading my loom. In the end I was only over 8 threads in the count.

In the first two photos the threads over the reed are the extras that will come off-now my towel project is centered again in the reed-haha I knew it didn't look centered before.

My back was aching so I waited til Sunday morning to start tying on to the back-this is a slow process as well After all tied on, then I will carefully wind on all the yardage-I think there is at least 8 yards here.

There is always allot of shrinkage with the first wash with handwovens, but these are still going to be large towels-reminded me of my farm girl Grandma's towels. She always had large towels for hand drying the dishes.

For my drink share I dug out a gluten free vodka-made with usa corn and made myself a mule-a shot of vodka, a squirt of lime juice, and ginger beer-I love this brand the best for the strong ginger flavor and this one is sugar free.  They call it ginger beer but there is No alcohol in it. I grabbed this glass that I bought at the brewery and pizza pub when our friends came down for a visit this summer-and filled it half full with ice first. I popped in one of my stainless straws.

First week of October I dug out my pottery Halloween "sacks' and the cast iron piece and added the little battery tea lights. It was dark when I took this photo-was hoping to capture the dark with the candles-but you can see that the candles are on.

Happy T everyone

    1. thank you so much. My Grandma didn't weave cloth but she did sew allot of clothes for her family and make lots of quilts, and other domestic skills. family gatherings when I was young were large at her farm, the women all hand washed and dried the dishes. she had these very large cotton towels for drying.-happy new week

  3. Hi Kathy, good morning - just got up here! It's chilly here, too, but at least the sun is shining today, so that's something! Threading up the loom looks very complicated. I only weave paper and scraps with a home made cardboard loom! I used to drink ginger beer a lot, but I've not seen it in the shops here for ages. Lovely Halloween decorations, too! Happy T Day! Have a great week, hugs, Valerie

  4. Like me, you need to be working on a project. But mine would never include the counting you must do for your loom. Numbers are simply not my thing, I’d lose count and give up. I know you won’t though, and big towels sound perfect! I wouldn’t have a problem with gluten, but alcohol-free vodka would have to be my choice. Do they make such a thing? Lol. I had to give up all alcohol after deciding even one lite beer made me feel dragged out. Love the happy faces on your bag lanterns!

  5. Beautiful lanterns. Congratulations to your husband.

  6. That's too bad you can't have a fire in your wood stove. A fire does take chill off, and is such a nice atmosphere too.Sitting next to one is always so nice. Setting up the loom looks like it take a long time, but worth it when you can get such pretty results. I like that idea of big towels. I think those would be nice to have. The ones you buy end up being so small sometimes once you dry them. It sounds like your husband had a yummy birthday meal too. I hope you had a good celebration. Have a great T day Kathy. Hope your weather warms up a bit too. hugs-Erika

    1. Yes I was very unhappy when we discovered she had a major chimney fire-this is a pretty big project to fix and make safe again. I always enjoyed our wood stoves so muc.
I am pretty slow these days for setting this up to get ready to weave, but I still enjoy the process so just go with.
I decided to weave towels because the ones you buy are really not nice they are small now and just don't hold up well either.
Thank you, yes we ended up with a lovely day today. hugs

  9. Low 60s in the house is a bit chilly. Yesterday was the first day we switched on the heater as well - it's only in the morning at the moment since it still warms up quite a bit during the day. I like your Halloween "sacks" and I can imagine that they look spooky in the dark with just the battery light in. The loom looks very complicated to me; how wonderful that you are weaving your own towels. Happy T day!

    1. Yes for us now 60's is a bit too chilly, when I put a sweatshirt on and also a knitted wool poncho and was still cold time to turn the heat on haha They are fun once it gets dark as you just see the cut out faces. the setting up the loom is a process Happy T

  10. I never thought of vodka having to be gluten free, but now that I think of it, it does make since. I am surprised at all the things that have to be gluten free. I think 10 years ago I had never even heard of this! LOL Happy belated birthday to your hubby. It sounds like you cooked him a good meal. Have a great t day and week!

    1. Yes I have the celiac so no gluten-it is amazing where it can be that one would not think of. Just like needing to watch salt or sugar-I read all the labels now on food items.
      thank you Happy T

  11. It has been chilly the past few mornings but we haven’t started up the heaters yet. I did bring out some sweaters and long pants though. Working at the loom seems so perfect for a coolish fall or winter day. I wish I could sit beside you and watch you work. I know someone else who is going to have a birthday very soon! 🎉 Your hubby’s birthday luncheon sounds so good!

  12. A chimney-fire?!
Once when I stayed at my SIL near an oven with real fire... I didn´t really sleep. Mr. Mikesch, the cat, checked on me constantly, he must´ve sensed stupid me is afraid...

Hmmm, a Happy-Birthday-meal for sure (Happy Bithday!)

Your threading always mekes me think "wow".
Had the same ginger-"beer". Cute glass.

Halloween is still not here... Other you count one year one kid (scared off by Ingo wearing the scream mask) and one year three kids.

Enjoy yours and happy T-Day :-)

  13. Happy T-day, Kathy. And happy birthday to your hubby too.

    The weaving is so cool!

The mule looks fab - I need to look for a ginger beer like that - sugar free would be great. Sounds refeshing!

Loved the card you sent Lisca. A cool way to color that image too.

    Have a great week!!!

    1. yes there is just way too much sugar in sodas like this so I always buy the sugar free-this is a really good brand of the ginger beer in diet.
thank you about Lisca's card they were fun to make-if you would like to share slow mail send my your info in my contact form-hugs-you have a great week too

  14. Kathy I'm looking forward to seeing the finished towels, it looks hard work!
My husband does ribs in the slow cooker but them puts them in the oven to crisp up a little.
I have now resorted to wearing a thin sweater when we leave home in the mornings as its cool until the sun comes out.
    Happy T Day

  15. The sun is out again here but there is definitely an Autumn chill in the air early mornings and it takes a while longer to heat up outside. I thoroughly enjoy this time of the year. Happy belated birthday wishes to your husband. The bbq ribs meal sounds delicious. I am quite partial to a sip or two of vodka usually at Christmas but have never tried it with ginger beer. I like ginger beer too so I shall have to see what that combination is like. As always weaving fascinates me and love to see you are at your loom again. Hand woven towels nothing better! Many thanks for the card which I received this morning. Lovely seasonal Halloween stamps on it! Thank you. Keep well. Amanda x

    1. Hi Amanda, so happy you received the card in a timely manner, I sent the international cards out early.
I do enjoy autumn too, and feels good after our very hot summer. I had never heard of a mule before-when I was in Yellowstone park area visiting I bought a huckleberry vodka and they had the recipe on the bottle. I love the added splash of lime too

  16. Fascinating to see the loom. Once you get into the rhythm, it must be so meditative to weave. Dinner sounds delicious. Happy Birthday to your husband. Your pottery Halloween bags are cute. Happy T Day

  18. I got a "Whoops" error message three times, so gave up and went to bed. Slept longer than I expected, too.

Happy belated birthday to your husband, The meal sounds wonderful.

Sorry you are cold. This weather is just perfect for me. I'm loving it, even though we were warned of frost on Sunday, so I got my herbs inside before it actually froze.

I'm always intrigued by that loom of yours and am glad you got it where you are ready to make your new towels. I love those Halloween decorations. I used to have some of those (ceramic/pottery), but one of them broke, so I got rid of mine.

Loved the bee glass and that you used the stainless steel straw. They are wonderful, aren't they? I don't drink hard liquor, but your drink looks nice, anyway. Thanks for sharing your husband's birthday, your loom, your Halloween bags, and your lovely bee glass and drink with us for T this Tuesday, dear Kathy. I just hope this publishes.

I do like cooler weather opposed to hot and humid-but it came on so fast here my body was not ready for it-we have a few perfect days here this week-cool mornings but reaches into the 70s
Yes I do really like my stainless steel straws too.

    2. I got your comment that said you were having trouble. I too have had trouble on several blogger sites trying to leave a comment. Blogger is probably changing algorithms. I don't like being cold either. I am trying not to turn on the heat but it's coming. Sorry about your back too. As for the loom Wow it is such a beauty and the outcome so fabulous. Have a wonderful day today.

  19. Hi Kathy,
Thank you so much for the sweet card. It was really nice of you to think of me. As we don't have Halloween here, it is the first ever Halloween card I have ever received. And I appreciate you have sent me sweet trick or treating creatures and not horrible skulls etc.I really like it. Thanks again.
I'm sorry to hear your chimney is not functioning. I hope you can get it fixed soon. Chimney fires happen when you don't sweep regularly or when the wood is not dry enough and the chimney develops a sugar coating (not real sugar, but that is what it is called here). That coating can catch fire.
Oh my, that loom ! What a lot of precision work! I never realised.
Belated happy birthday to Larry. I'm glad you were able to cook him his favourite food in spite of the cool weather.
Yes, of course vodka is made from grains. It never ceases to amaze me how many things have wheat in them. My hubby's family is full of celiacs. His sister can't even eat corn flakes even though they are made with corn. But just the fact that wheat is being used in the factory, they can't guarantee that it is safe. She will only eat what is certified gluten free. It is so good that there are many substitute products to bake and cook. I wish they had that here. I'm sure his sister would love to come to visit us in Spain, but as it stands she will have to carry a suitcase full of stuff and now that Britain is out of the EU, it will be very difficult.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

    1. You are very welcome for the card Lisca, I had fun making up several with different stamps on them
I got really sick this year from eating corn chips that did not say gluten free on the package-so it must have been really close to allot of gluten grains. I pretty much stick with gluten free on the package from now on. I am happy I can eat corn as I like corn products.
Yes at our wood home we had two woodstoves and only used those to heat with for many years-until it was too much for my husbands health to split the wood for us. I really do miss our wood heat. these older homes never put in steel linings to protect from the chimney fires-this one she must have gotten really hot too. sad. its a big process right now to get a pipe to fit the wood stove that is here already.
perhaps your sister could mail out to you some of her gluten free foods
      Happy T hugs
