T Stands for Tuesday

Happy T day everyone!! Tuesdays is when we gather together and share a post and photo of our drink. You are most welcome to join us just visit our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth-link on my side bar.

I am having a lazy day today (Monday) as this up and down weather we are having has really got to me this year. Once it all stabilizes we will probably end up very hot and dry, so trying not to complain too much.

This month of May is just really flying by way too fast for us-we have had soooo much rain and storms here April and May that it has really set us back on the move. We were hoping to be mostly moved in by Memorial Day:  I don't think that will happen. Hubs is concerned about the lake traffic that will happen after the holiday. It is what it is.
He is not very healthy with his heart disease progressing, so things are just going slow. He has a follow up with his heart doctor end of May which is really upon us already.

A couple weeks ago I decided I better pot up my lavender and oregano herb plants, and my one strawberry plant that made it through the winter from seed.  The strawberry plant had a bit of a setback but all the rain we have had has been good for it. It has loads of runners already. My lavender plant is 3 or 4 years old now and this year is just loaded with blooms. I got it potted just in time so it wouldn't lose the blooms. Now I won't worry about when it gets moved.
I also need to decide where I want to plant my madder plants-the roots are for dye.

Miss Calico enjoying the sunshine

Of course I snipped a few lavender stems and flowers to dry-works great amongst all of my wool fibers  I filled this large tray-as the lavender dries I will add more This variety doesn't have the longer flowers as my past plants did. There are so many varieties of Lavender to choose from.

The plants at the lake house were iris's on the side-and on top they should be day lilies and those others were hostas. Neither of us like hostas so they are going.  I also discovered peonies blooming now and a couple lilac bushes which I am thrilled over.

These peonies are on the left side of our property looking at the lake-that's the neighbors dock in the front-and right next to them their neighbors dock in the back.
Our property goes right to the very edge where they have their dock placed. These neighbors have a huge three story home with no land-just a little wedge for their dock. I did not want that.

We did get an outdoor table and chair set up at the lake house. This set is really really old. Some friends in Chicago didn't want it anymore so it landed here in the woods about 15 years ago. It worked out perfect down by Hubs shop. It is powder coated I think-no rust. We put it on the lower level of the deck where it will have lots of shade. Also shade up on top by that tree you can see-we have iron tables to go through and see if we want to take one with or not-I remember they all needed tops-originally were glass.

I am cleaning some cast iron pieces today, a few that were really rusty. I also decided on two more pieces to keep both usa made by John Wright company. one is a gingerbread house-you bake on each side for the pieces and one that is all animals called animal puzzle. I bought both of these pieces in the '80s.

I have been hunting for a few hours online for heavy duty shelving for my cast iron pieces (note see my previous post for my collection that I am keeping). I finally found one at Sam's club that is on sale right now and was about $50.00 cheaper than everyone else plus free shipping.

I will use this without the casters for better stability and more weight. Without the casters I can have 500 pounds per shelf. I was looking for 800 pounds so I wouldn't have to worry about it but couldn't find one for the size I needed and price I wanted to pay. It is  32"x18"x72"  It will just fit next to my Grandma's hoosier cabinet.  I think I will really enjoy this-easy access and I can admire my cast iron-I know I am a bit different in what makes me happy lol

I am still mostly drinking my chicory decaf herbal beverage during the day with cream-in my favorite cup of course-smiles.
I switched over to cream since it is real food unlike some of the non dairy creamers full of salt especially. I do also love the milked almond milk I shared awhile back. I just bought another case of 6 of it. Makes great chia puddings too.

I am a little bummed as I haven't lost more weight but I have kept off what I did lose which is a good thing for me. I have not had any grains or starchy veggies for over a month now and I have to say I do fill better-not as bloated feeling anymore. The gluten free baking was really getting to my stomach with the super high carbs-once moved I will do more experimenting with some of the keto recipes I have found on pinterest.

That's it for me-I will be working at the lake house on Tuesday, so if I don't visit your post tonight I will catch up when I get back.

Happy T everyone

  1. You still have a lot of work to do for your move, just try to take it slowly. The table and chairs on the deck look great. Enjoy your chicory coffee. The new shelving will be great for your ironware. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  2. I imagine you are getting more and more excited as the time grows closer for the move! I like your table and chairs. What a great place for them! That shelving unit looks like the perfect thing to keep your cast iron pieces handy and where you can see them. I fully understand the love of cast iron :)

My son-in-law has gone on the keto diet, and though he claims he doesn't see any weight loss other people can tell. It's an interesting diet, and my daughter is enjoying finding recipes.

    Happy T Day!

    1. I have been doing allot more reading on the keto diet-I think each person needs to decide if it is healthy for them or not-I have read if one is already ill with chronic diseases like diabetes and heart issues it is not advised, but them my neighbor has diabetes and his doctor suggested to go keto. so it needs to be a personal decision I think.
The keto recipes have allot of interesting ideas-and it is not as high protein as I first thought-it has gotten me into looking up the carbs on foods more-but not eating grains for me has helped me feel better I can't seem to break the habit of snacking on something in the evenings so I am now eating raw nus.
I do love my cast iron pieces for sure-and I do use them every day

    3. I'll suggest she check Pinterest. Thx!

I agree that there's no one-size-fits-all eating plan, and each person needs to choose with thought what foods they eat. There are so many meal-planning suggestions out there! I love bread, but it's fruit I think I'd have the most trouble giving up. I added almonds and walnuts to my lunches a while back and have been enjoying them as a daily addition. My daughter swears by cauliflower.

    4. they are doing allot with cauliflower these days-I made mashed cauliflower the other day-I liked it. not sure about a pizza crust though which is all the rage now lol still tasting like cauliflower don't think I would like that as the crust.
I was surprised about how many carbs are in fruits-it is really high-but I work it into my days carbs now-my favorite are the berries so am happy very little carbs in those.

  3. My CT weather has been similar to yours: a lot of rain, a few sunny days. Today it actually hit 80 F, which is unseasonably high for us in May. The plants you're moving look great. Your calico cat is beautiful. I prefer having a little bit of land like you do, unlike your neighbor's land with the house taking up most of the footprint. The table and chairs on the deck look inviting. I'm glad you're keeping a few more of the cast iron pieces. (I completely relate to you having collections of items.) Happy T-Day! (My post won't go up until Tuesday, so you won't see it until you get back.)

It will be nice to be on the water for the summer though. Especially once you get settled in. Have a wonderful T day Kathy. Hugs-Erika

  6. The flowers and plants are beautiful. Your deck with table and chairs will be a nice oasis to watch life go by on the lake. Miss Calico looks cute enjoying the sunshine. The Keto diet was originally developed to help epileptics control seizures. And it's been around for 30 years though it sounds trendy. Other groups found that it also helped them. I found I needed a few carbs or I didn't feel well. Baking mug muffins with Pamela's Gluten-Free Pancake Baking mix helps me. As well as gluten free pretzels. I suppose I do dirty keto. As you said, everyone has to find their own way. With family doings during March and April, we fell off the Keto wagon. I had plateaued and hope to get back to the routine. Good for you for maintaining. I think our bodies know what is best. Happy T Day!

    1. Yes I think most times if we listen our bodies tell us what we need-I had to figure out the celiac issue on my own as 20 years ago doctors didn't know about it--my age is adding to my weight issue along with a non working thyroid now but I will get there haha

  10. Hello again Kathy.Sorry my first post didn't work, I am having trouble with the computer keyboard, it looked okay but is obviously went walk about.
I loved reading you post and seeing all the photos. It looks a lovely area for you to relax by the waters edge. I imagine you are looking forward to your final push to move in. Miss Calico looked very happy lying in the sunshine.
The rack you picked out for your cast iron pots will look good with them all displayed.
I hope all will be well for your husband when he goes for his follow up check at the doctors.
    Happy T day wishes Kathy.

  12. Moving is SO much work - and even more so when it's a short move. You end up doing more yourself rather than hiring. The yard and lake view ore wonderful. Your rack for the cast iron collection looks perfect. I think something like your collection is very special and should be on view!

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx

  14. I hope you get everything sorted soon, take it at a steady pace though! It's hard to know what to take and what to say goodbye to isn't it?
The plants the Lake House look great already - I hope you can find some space! Ditch the Hostas - I am not a fan either!! I hope you a good day today! Happy T Day! Chris

  15. When you shared your cast iron the other day, I was going to suggest Sam's stands. I have seen one up close and it is fabulous. BTW, I think it has a stop on one of the wheels to keep it from moving. You might want to check that out and keep the wheels just in case you ever want to move it (like to clean behind it, etc).

Love that deck set. You will love it there. I about fell over when you said the hostas had to go. I wish I lived closer. I would even dig them up. I LOVE HOSTAS. My neighbor cut down my peony bush. I was very upset. I also love peonies.

Thanks for sharing your trip to the Lake House and your photos, as well as your chicory decaf. BTW, the non-dairy creamers also have tons of things diabetics can't have (not that it applies to you, but . . .) and you will never catch me using it, either.

  16. Your lavender is pretty. I planted some last year but for some reason it did not come up again. Disappointing.
That is a great price for that metal shelving from Sam's. I have been looking for one exactly like that but I don't have a Sam's club membership. I saw a similar one at Lowe's but it was more expensive and not very sturdy.
I hope you find some baked goods that do not irritate your stomach.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

    1. If you have a rough winter sometimes the lavender doesn't winter over. I think its a little picky too-full sun, not too wet soil either.
Yes I looked all over the net for heavy duty wire shelving at the size I needed. Sams had the best price and they had it on sale too. I buy allot online from Sam's club-we have the card for free shipping which helps out too we always have lived over an hour from a sams-so now I buy online for allot of things

  17. Like Elizabeth my heart skipped a beat or two when you said the hostas have to go. I love them and since we have so much wooded areas I am constantly buying more when I can. Your flowers do look lovely and the table grouping at the dock is so relaxing looking. I would probably live there the first summer at least :)

  18. What a beautiful place, you must be so excited to be moving there. We have come to realise that you have to do a bit each day and no to over tire yourself, that’s hard when you have so much to do!
Your outside space looks so lovely, I can just image sitting there enjoying the views.
    Enjoy your weekend
