Good Morning Saturday

Thursday and Friday I got my latest quilt layered-backing, wool batting, top and got it all basted with large stitches-I will be putting it on the hand quilt frame today

While ironing the backing I spotted this visitor

How is the weather where you are??  A tiny bit of snow, and cold here at the lake

  1. It is a rare privilege to spend time with Bald Eagles, and the arrival of a Great Blue Heron is pretty special too.

  3. Do you think that is the same Heron that appears in your photos in your last post? What a privilege being able see all that wildlife and of course more eagles. Fabulous! Wonderful quilt too and it seems to me that you have done this one quite quickly too. So glad for you that you wereable to buy the quilt book you were looking for. Blue skies are back here but they are still struggling to get rid of all the snow in Madrid. Keep well Amanda x

    1. Hi Amanda, I often have wondered if this was the same heron. Guessing this is the same eagle pair that sits up in the trees too.
I had cut this quilt out back during the time I also cut out the gift quilt with these fabrics-that always takes me a long time. these are simple blocks instead of quilts with tiny pieces so it did go together in less than a weeks time. My back and shoulders are really hurting now from all the quilts I have made this one is the 4th one in a row. and I have others I want to make-the applique I can do a block at a time and take a break.
that was allot of snow for Madrid for sure. You keep well too-hugs

  4. Kathy, so glad you are seeing the pair regularly. When did you say nesting is out your way? Our pairs are bonding now and doing a little nest work in preparation for the big day. Herons are great creatures to watch. I adore their imagery from the back when they tuck their head and neck down!!...:)jp

  6. Nice bird shots Kathy. It has warmed up into the 40's today, but dark and very wet. One of those days you have no ambition. Show us the quilt when you finish and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    1. thanks Erika, we have had very little in sunny days, very dreary so it is difficult to get things accomplished. the quilting is a good project this winter. Yes I will share, I am haven't totally decided on how to quilt it yet and hoping I chose the right thread color.

  7. Your quilt will not only be beautiful but it will be so warm. I hope you plan to sleep under it when the cold winds blow. There is often a blue heron at our pond. I feel sure it is the same one. At the first glimpse of me, he is up and away.

  10. Great photos of the birds!!! I love Herons and have missed seeing anyone around here this year. I guess if I would get out of the house and closer to water areas I'd have better luck :) Hating this Covid confinement more every day. Your quilt is beautiful and I'm sure you will do a fantastic job with the hand quilting. My hands hurt just thinking about that kind of project.
