Good morning everyone,
I have been up and out by 7 am to replace the orange quarters for the orioles. If I do not get out there then they have discovered that around the house is where I feed the hummingbirds. They have tried but they are much too big for their feeders. lol and They do not need to do that as I keep their large nectar feeder full.
They are a joy to watch and have now been here every day for over a week. I needed to go into town yesterday to buy two large bags of oranges. I bought naval oranges as they had the best price and are larger too.
I got a couple photos that I took of them through the kitchen window that faces where I hang other feeders. This photo was a challenge to bring it in closer to see and to avoid all the stuff sitting out there. The orioles are sitting on the wisteria that has really greened up since last weekend. the black on top is the overhang.
Just enlarge for better viewing
I took this next photo early yesterday evening.
It was lovely this morning, lots of turkeys talking away in a field plot nearby, the geese pair came up looking for corn, and Miss Calico following me around.
April had been so cold or stormy that I had no chance really to seriously work in my gardens. Since last weekend we finally have spring weather in the 70's with rain soooo everything is green and growing much too fast especially the weeds.
Today I hope be get allot accomplished before the storms return tomorrow.
and today is Cinco de Mayo Day. We love Mexican foods so I am thinking of making something with the homemade chiorzo that our friends made and brought down to us last weekend.
Enjoy your day everyone
The Baltimore Orioles rival the bright color of the oranges. I like how each bird has his own orange quarter. Saw a couple of nuthatches at my feeder and a chickadee just popped in. Not much action though I can hear a pair of Towhees calling to each other. Have a lovely day
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures Kathy!! I got some photos of them too yesterday.. I didn't have any oranges so i put out some grape jelly and they gobbled it up.. lol This year is just improvise i'm afraid as this is the first year i've seen them here.. Next year i hope to have something set up for them.. I bought some oranges yesterday and will get them out.. Hubs is going to rig something up to put them on.. I'll post my pics for T :) Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteHow great to have those birds there in your garden! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteWe put out oranges, and saw only two Baltimore Orioles since Thursday. But as I was reading this post, a bright orange one flew to our feeder post where the oranges are hooked on. Yay! But he didn’t try them or stay around. At least we are attracting them!
ReplyDeleteThe birds are amazing colours. You are lucky to have them visit your area.

I am in awe of these photos and your taking care of the orioles. I think you are doing a marvelous service, since this has been such a long winter.
ReplyDeleteThe Aldi in my neighborhood has been closed for remodel for about three months. They had their grand reopening this week, and I went on Friday. Prices on the items I normally buy have gone up, but are still less than Dillon's (now owned by Kroger), our only other grocery chain. I thought of you buying oranges there when I was at Aldi on Friday.
Hope your weekend is great.
Wow- you have a hug amount of orioles. I am amazed. The most I ever get is a single pair. But they are so gorgeous, aren't they. Thanks for sharing your photos. I really enjoyed the view. Happy rest of your weekend. Hugs-Erika
