T Stands for Tuesday Quilt Progress & Eagle Pair

     Hi Everyone,

Tuesdays we join in with our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth with a drink related post. Anyone is invited to join just have a photo with a drink reference in your post. Link in my sidebar

This morning I decided I wanted to work on getting more of the 4 patch quilt blocks finished  up and I ended up finishing the last dozen or so. These are more time consuming than they should be as I need allot of pins-so the flannels don't stretch or slip. and since these are simple blocks I want the points to match up for sure. Laying it out I found one that was off so I may take that one apart.

First thing early this morning,  I started a pot of decaf coffee.

Out my craft room window we had several crow visitors. They were really large up close.

All finished

and the stack of the 12 inch blocks

I  scattered out all the blocks so I could see the choices better. This is a scrappy quilt-like putting a puzzle together These are quilt store flannels

This is one of the layouts

after I took these two photos-which helps me see pops of color-I did not like those plum squares all in a row-so I turned them-but didn't take another photo made a big difference and I moved around a couple greens that were together

all ready to sew up the 8 rows and then all the rows together. I also plan on adding some borders to use up all of the queen size wool batting-don't want to waste any of that.

If you missed my weekend posts I shared the eagle family that came to visit. At least one of the adults is here for a visit every morning now.

Around 4 pm today-Monday-the pair came back, and they are sitting all cozy together. I am never fast enough to get a video when I hear them singing.  My photos are not the best-we don't use smart phones, and my digital camera is over 15 years old now-but it still works pretty good.

Gorgeous sky behind the eagle pair  This is our second winter here, and we are realizing we see this pair the most during January up til the time she is nesting

Happy T everyone. Are you already for New Year's Eve so we can say goodbye to 2020??   I have wild caught usa shrimp in my freezer so will be doing a shrimp boil for the two of us.

Happy T everyone and Happy New Year

  1. That quilt is looking fabulous Kathy. It may take time but is worth it. Not sure what I will make for New years Eve dinner, but for sure I am not going out. Have a wonderful T day and happy new years also. Hugs-Erika

  2. Beautiful quilt Kathy! I love the idea if flannels, so soft. I haven’t seen the start of a new year since 2000. Staying up for that is way past my bedtime these days!

  3. Do the eagles nest so you can watch their comings and goings? I am looking forward to seeing more of this beautiful pair, and hope they have a large healthy family. I have exactly three days to get my little projects laid out for stitching. I am hoping that I will be able to do some sewing every day of 2021. Today, I spent most of the day outside. I am extending the walking trail, so on pretty days I will clean up a bit more. I am looking forward to seeing your wool applique from the new book you ordered. I follow a lady who makes the most gorgeous wool appliqued quilts...Tom Miner Quilts, I think it is. She lives near Yellowstone.

    1. No we do not know where their nest is. we live on a circle around the lake and in the middle up high is acreage that is all wooded with a house. I don't think anyone lives in the house now. always hoped it doesn't get subdivided. but the eagles could nest in there or further away.
enjoy your sewing. I just looked for Tom Miner Quilts as a blog and I got warning warning all red don't go there. do you have the link? thanks and I love Yellowstone only got to visit once

  4. It must have taken forever to get the design just right for this quilt, but it is really lovely. I know it will be a genuine beauty when you finish it. It's already lovely.

Thanks for resharing the eagles from the weekend. I suspect I was MIA for that post, but I appreciate the recap. I always enjoy seeing them together.

Your decaf looks great and that mug looks perfect for drinking your morning coffee. Have an absolutely fabulous week ahead as we forge our way through the end of this horrible year and work toward a more hopeful 2021. Thanks for sharing your quilt squares and your decaf with us, along with the beautiful eagles, for T this Tuesday, dear Kathy.

  5. Wow for that quilt!!! Early morning, I mistook your eagles for Igels (same pronunciation in German) and waited for the cutest pics of a pair of those, LOL.
I´m a tad afraid 2021 will just be the same as this. Will there be good jobs to find/visits to restaurants and stuff... TRAVEL?

    1. I agree I was excited to see the crows land in the lawn-we don't see them allot here and they are such a cool bird. the photo didn't show it but these were really large birds

  9. Lovely quilt blocks. It is like a huge puzzle and I like how you move and shift things around. I like how the blues pop out, but that's probably because its my favorite color. So cool to have eagle neighbors that visit. During the big snowstorm we had a couple of weeks ago, the mourning doves visited the bird feeder. They are ground feeders and it was so cold they were hugging each other to keep warm. New Year's Eve we usually have Chinese food. The restaurant that we like to order from closed before the pandemic. On the last shopping trip, we picked up some frozen PF Chang. so we will make do. Happy T Day and a Better 2021

  10. This one was a big quilt puzzle-but fun to arrange. this quilt is a bit bigger than I have made in awhile too. We had allot of mourning doves at the woods home they are so sweet and I love listening to them.
Chinese food sounds perfect, so sorry your restaurant closed down. very sad the loss of small business's this year. Happy New Year

  11. Happy New year my friend! The flannel fabric is beautiful, and your quilt will be too. The eagels sing? I LOVE that ! We do have them here, but I only see them flying way, way up-and I always worry about them diving down to get my goose! Thankfully, they have the lake, which is only a mile from us- so they can go fishing there. I have heard of them grabbing up little dogs :(
I hope you are still painting!

    1. Yes eagles will grab cats and small dogs. they do like fishing in the lake here too. sadly I got into the quilt mode in October this is my 4th quilt since then. I do want to paint again-watercolors. Happy New Year 2021

  12. We've tried to attract crows, but even though they are quite near they aren't attracted to our little patio space. I love seeing yours :)

    Happy T Tuesday!

    1. I really love seeing the crows too-they hang out in the trees here quite allot. they are garbage eaters too, most wildlife likes cracked corn-we used to feed that for all the wildlife and birds at the woods house

  13. You've gotten so much done on the quilt. I would be a terrible quilter if anything had to match up perfectly. I'm more of the crazy block kind of crafter. :) The memory card in my old digital camera suddenly stopped working. Not sure if it's the card or the camera. I hope it's the card because that would be easier to replace. You got some great shots of the eagle couple.

    1. hopefully you can get another memory card if not call the company that made it. my battery goes out every 5 years or so and I can't buy them anymore but if I call them they send me another one free.

  16. I think I've told you before that I love those wintry woodsy fabrics. I love the pattern - how you're mixing the different sizes. Are you following a pattern? My guess is no - you're so talented that way.

I didn't know that eagles sing!

Chris wants a roast beef for New Year's day dinner. The cuts are different here, so I'll have to see what I can find.

To answer your question, no I'm not going to do an art diary next year. I want to "graduate" to real art journaling like Linda, Chris and many other of the T-ladies do. I certainly have enough inspiration around me. I'm excited about it!

Happy T-day and a Happy New Improved Year! Hugs, Eileen

    1. No this is just a simple plain 12 inch block and then a 12 inch block with two lights and two dark fabrics. and then the rows are alternated plain-block-plain blocks.
I think they are singing I haven't been fast enough to do a video, so I am going to look online.
roast beef sounds nice. I usually like beef for Christmas day.
I agree there is allot of inspiration in the T group. I love both Linda and Chris's work too. Happy Nea Year 2021

  19. Wonderful to have Eagles as neighbours. I think I'd prefer them as neighbours rather than some noisy argumentative humans!! The design of your new quilt looks fabulous. Flannel is lovely, warm and soft to the touch. What material is best for quilt making? keep well Amanda x

    1. Yes we really enjoy seeing this eagle family-yes awesome neighbors haha.
Most make quilts with 100 % cotton, but I just recently made a quilt with wools and flannels on the back. I have seen quilts made with silk as well. crazy quilts were made with all sorts of fabrics including velvets. so it is up to the quilter for the fabric choices

  20. Well you are my women of the day. Making quilts is something that I admire so much. I made one in my life and that was enough for me. HA HA. You seem to have a real talent for it and this is going to be gorgeous. It looks like you live in a very beautiful place too. Have a great day.

    1. Thank you. My Mom was the one who made gorgeous quilts. She liked the small pieces and cut them all out the old fashioned way with her own templates. I enjoy making a few but mine are simple country quilts. I made large squares to really show off and enjoy the fabrics. We do live in a pretty place-on Lake in the Ozarks in Missouri with woods behind us
