When it Rains it Pours & a Catch Up

   Happy Friday everyone,

Wow last night we got major lightening and thunder, hail and around 5 inches of rain-I think we got caught up a bit. It is raining off and on a bit today still more rain coming in. There were several tornado warnings in the area as well.

I will have soooo much yardwork to catch up with once it all dries out. The high temps and high humidity are still with us.

I haven't been online much, as my desk top computer screen is really messed up, and so far I can't figure out how to fix it. I thought I accidently clicked on something I shouldn't have but can't find anything. All the colors are washed out, very hard to read online too. and the curser arrow is florescent-crazy stuff haha

I have been catching up with things using my husband's old little laptop. He bought it maybe 15 years ago or so to take with to keep up with his business when he took trips with his friend that flew his own plane. Larry enjoyed those days as he was a pilot too, had his own plane for awhile  but can't be a pilot since his diabeties.

It has been over a week now that my husband hurt his neck moving something heavy that he should not be doing any more-he has had severe arthritis since childhood and these things only get worse as we age. We went to a chiropracter that he had used before and liked, but this doctor did something that later caused tremendous pain-was hard to watch. and the doctor was out the rest of that week attending a conference.  Hubs is just now feeling a bit better, but is catching up on lost sleep now.

This week I decided to make a pot of chicken soup with homemade gluten free dumplings. I had defrosted the deep freezer and found two quarts of my own stock so used that and ended up adding a carton of a no salt organic chicken broth. This was soooo good. I took a few photos but since I can't see them the way they should look hoping ok  This soup turned out sooo delicious. That bright spot is a reflection from the stove light.

The cheesecake I made was a big hit, a friend  came over for a visit today and him and Larry had the last two pieces.  Deciding what I want to bake next.

Still spinning. I had allot of difficulty with the Shetland wool for some reason, so put that aside and working on merino which is very soft. After this is spun, I want to go back to another large bag of white roving. Hoping to use black walnuts to dye this fall.

  Happy Friday and weekend

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about your husbands painful neck. It seems it is always something, as we grow older. And we need to be more careful but never remember that until we've injured ourselves. I hope it improves. I've gone to physical therapy for my neck - and it helps but the best thing I have found for myself is to use a neck cuff - just to take the strain off the neck. At times my neck feels like it is 100 lbs so when I use that neck cuff thinggy (just at home) it helps.
Computers /Laptops can be so annoying at times. I hope you find out what the issue is. Take Care.

  2. I'm smiling at your garden work comment about having so much to do, NOT because I think it's funny, but because I know exactly what you mean. I can't keep up with mine at all, and the last few days have been gorgeous so I've been trying to do just a bit. I hope you didn't have any flooding with that rain, and your soup looks delicious. Tonight we're having grilled cheese for dinner, as I am on a grilled cheese bug lately. Happy end of the week. hugs-Erika

  10. Oh Kathy i'am so sorry Larry is hurt and hurt worse by a chiropractor! Glad he's feeling a bit better though.. Hope that continues and he gets some sleep... Rain!!! Woohoo you got some rain... i mean ALOT of rain!! and no damage i hope!? I just threw the melted ice water from hubby's cooler on the SunFlowers.. I swear i heard them say 'thank you'... lol We are starting a string of very hot days 106 today leading up to 110 next week and no rain in sight.. They've went to Stage 2 water restrictions. I feel bad for the people around me that have put in new landscape. They can only water once a week and not on weekends and not between the hours of 12-6pm.... Ofcourse part of me says they should have known better.... entire yards of grass... are they crazy? You would think they forgot where they live OR they are new to the area??... Anyway its native , drought tolerant plants all the way or none at all.. Your food as always looks yummy... Hope you get your computer fixed soon.. that would drive me crazy!! Thankfully i still have my computer guru but he is getting a little rusty since he doesn't do it much anymore.. and technology has pretty much left him behind.. Take care my friend.. enjoy the time off until the ground dries out.. Hugs! deb

    1. good morning and thank you. Larry is improving slowly, he really needs a massage therapist but we have never found one here they helped him allot when we still lived in Illiois Yes allot of rain, luckly no loss off electric as some areas on the lake did. It is still very humid here no relief even after the storm crazy weather. stay coll in those temps we have been trapped in the house since early July My desk top computer drives me nuts for sure and the lap top is difficult to as the key board is so different to type on so always getting typos to fix. Take care my frend

  11. Dear Kathy,
it has been raining here for days now (not constantly, but from time to time, sometimes stronger, sometimes weaker) - and it has cooled down enormously. As I don't like heat that much (although I try to cope with it) I'm happy with the coolness and nature is happy with the water from the sky.
Crap your computer screen is broken. Luckily you still have spares - although I think a 15 year old laptop is probably very slow?
Interesting that your husband was a pilot! I'm sorry he was in pain - hope everything will be fine soon!
I mustn't think about delicious food now, otherwise I'll get hungry again!
But I have to tell you that I was thinking of you in the Mamuz Museum - there was shown how people used to dye wool (millennia ago, but also hundreds of years ago) and there are also lots of dyeing plants in their garden.
Hugs, all the best from Austria and warm August greetings,
    Traude

  12. Hi Traude we were mostly dry in July so this was much needed rain, but sadly we did not get a cool down at all still very very hot and humid here-so I can't e working out there til it cools down surprisingly this little lap tap is not slow at all It was a very good one when he bought it back then-just getting used to the different keyboard. Oh awesome I would love to have seen the museum with the natural dye projects. I did allot of that in the past when we lived in the woods, so much fun I really enjoyed that. Will do some soon.
Larry is getting better thank you for thinking of him He is catching uo on much needed sleep-happy weekend

  13. Brightness and contrast!
I went to my company with my dark laptop and boy... the men didn´t exactly laugh about me, but... I accidentially must´ve clicked - shoot I don´t remember what! But I set the brightness super-low.
    Maybe you did, too?

Here still too cold, at least the wedding was without rain.

Sad Larry cannot fly no more. There are great free simulation programs, Ingo loved those.
Yes, same here. Ingo sleeps so much. What a "holiday" he has... (here too cold so I keep working).
I still wonder what you will do with all the wool! :-) Hugs to you and the lake

  15. Sorry to take so long to visit. Life and extreme heat got in the way this past week.

I was saddened to read about Larry and the chiropractor. I hope he continues to improve in health.

I had the same problem with an old computer. After several friends looked at it, they determined it was not me and I needed a new computer monitor. I was lucky that my friend Scott had another monitor I could use. It was MUCH cheaper than having to buy a whole new computer.

Chicken and dumplings sound good, but NOT in this extreme heat. That's more autumn comfort food. It does look good, though.

Hope you are having a great day and able to spin more wool.

    1. good ,morning, we are thinking it is the monitor too we have taxes and insurance coming up so will wait on that for now I have this little lap top which is really different than my desk top computer and I like a large monitor too easy to see things, thanks about Larry-that was just a horrible experience today is out and seeing if can do things outdoors, I need to get out there but my allergies and asthma are bothering me with this high humidity still a break in the hot temps though today and tomorrow thats improvement haha

  16. Hi Kathy-I do hope your husband is better by now. I hope too that your humidity will be less-that makes doing stuff outside so hard. (impossible) Your foodie pics always look good-and I can't wait to see the yarn dyed with the walnuts. Take care my friend.
