How Do You Remove Label From Bottle?

Good morning/afternoon,
I know all of you paper artists, journalist, mixed media artists have probably done this with success.
In the past I just soaked the bottle in hot water and the label would come right off.  The last one I did a few weeks ago sadly did not come off this way at all and my label was ruined. They must be using a different adhesive on the wine bottle labels now.
I have two labels I want to save for sure

Thank you in advance

  1. Lemon essential oil will do the trick. Place a drop or two of oil on the label and it will rub off with your finger

  2. A friend gave me two blue Skye bottles (some vodka, I think, but not sure) and one had the label already removed. The other bottle set for days in water, to no avail. I still can't get it to budge even a little bit. I wish I could help you with this, but sadly, I am in a similar boat. I hope some help will come your way and I can learn the secret of removing these labels, too.

  3. Okay! You might get with T Lady Eileen... She is my crafty guru and if i remember right i THINK in the past she suggested to me to put it in the oven... now don't quote me and i have no idea of the temp.. i'd contact her and see what she says... I hope you'll let us know... Hugs! deb

  4. Himself, a chemist, said to remove the label and keep it intact, your best bet would be to use steam. The steam would help loosen the glue. No guarantee that the paper wouldn't tear.

  5. I need an answer to this as well. There is one label I’d also like to use in my journal. The last one I soaked came off with a very sticky residue.

  6. The Skye label is NOT paper, but might be plastic. Goo gone won't work. I tried it after seeing what others suggested.

  7. I got my last label off by using a hairdryer to warm it and carefully peeling from one corner. Hugs, Valerie

  8. I'm usually removing labels so I can use the bottle, not the other way around. :) I really appreciate companies that use an adhesive that isn't sticky and messy. Some labels come off so nicely and easily, while others must be soaked and scrubbed. :/

  9. Good question and for me it's always a bit of trial and error ...lol πŸ˜‰. In the first instance I always try and peel the label off, sometimes they come off easily but often I fill the bottle with boiling water using a funnel (easier and no burns or scalds), leave it for 5 mins which heats the bottle up and melts the glue, pour the boiling water away and then peel the label off carefully remembering the bottle is still hot - this method keeps the label dry πŸ˜€. Often when the label has a glossy or shiny finish then I do soak it off using water as they tend to just float off the bottle. Sometimes these methods work but not in every case, I've had a few disasters too 😁. Have a great weekend! J 😊 x

    1. Thanks Jo this is the method I am going to try first-and I never would have thought of this but makes perfect sense for loosening the glue on the back of the label
