The sun is out today so I took a few photos from indoors. We will not warm up til Thursday for me to even consider going outdoors-to clear the steps and hill to retrieve my mail.
I am soooo thankful we never lost our electric-that would have been very bad for us, especially stuck indoors with all this arctic cold and ice everywhere, and no way to keep warm or cook. Well I do have lots of quilts to snuggle into.
I retired in 2003 in the fall, a couple years later we went through a horrible ice storm at our woods house. At the time they said the worse in 30 years. Trees down, all the electric poles cracked in half in our county-that was brutal. The ice was very very thick on everything. We were last being rural, so had no electric for 19 days. However, we were better prepared there-two woodstoves for heat which we were only using at the time, and I had my 10 burner wolf stove-oven. We were totally ok, and I had filled up every large pot I had with water, and the bathtub I filled with water too-to flush toilets. So I am just so grateful this year was much easier.
Thankfully we did not get as much snow as predicted at the most maybe 4 inches.
I think this has headed to the east now-hoping all my readers are safe from this storm
Pretty but lethal ice.
ReplyDeleteYes ice is not good especially for us seniors-I won't risk trying to clean the steps and hill off til it warms up out of the teens and lower
DeleteJust checked our weather and Wed-Thurs looks like our worst days... 65-70% chance of 2-3 inches of snow or at least freezing precip... but our saving grace will be that we warm up above freezing each day this week... each night i have to bring in my little Red Yuccas in their little pots and put them out during the day to get the sun as i don't get much light in my house.. Trying to get them to make it through the Winter since i didn't get them in the ground in a timely manner... sigh... I do not envy you that ice for sure... BE CAREFUL! So glad things were not as bad weather wise as it could have been... I'm hoping for a little snow....lol It usually does not stay long here... Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteSnow is beautiful but I enjoyed it more once retired. working for the phone co I had to show up at work no matter what the weather-I had a long rural drive too-but I survived it all smiles.
Deletehope you can save your little plant. perhaps a small grow light bulb for the house? I wish it would warm up above freezing before thursday so I can start on clearing a path to the mailbox oh well
I am safe and sound, but annoyed on the eastern side of the state. I was counting on being able to get back to normal life today, but most things are closed.
ReplyDeleteYes most of Missouri was hit really hard-I am just so thankful we didn't lose electricity
DeleteI am glad you came through it just fine. We are very cold and they said the cold weather has pushed these storms very south of us. Just fine by me. But there are rumblings about a storm on Sat.
ReplyDeleteCathy
good news! we are stuck with bitter cold til thursday so I can't get out to clear steps and hill oh well no mail for awhile stay safe hugs
DeleteSo glad you did not lose power. Its been snowing here now sine the better part of the afternoon. We are on tap for 4 inches of the white ourself here. Janice
ReplyDeleteThat looks like some very serious ice and reminds me of some of the most severe winters I experienced back in Germany. I'm glad that you didn't lose power, that would have been pretty uncomfortable (I know that's an understatement). All the best for 2025!
ReplyDeleteBrr. It looks cold and like winter. I hope it warms up for you soon Kathy.
ReplyDeleteWhile it does look a bit chilly, it is oh so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh that sounds cold and wee, you were perfectly prepared! When here they renewd the waterpipes I, too, filled all buckets available to flush. And... needed none Dunno how they did it (they said "from time to time" no water available - I was lucky.
ReplyDeleteI can´t remember it, but time we must´ve been without heating, so Ingo just bought an electric. Reckon we´ll never use it... Have a great, hopefully soon warmer week - though the pics are beautiful, hugs
I'm glad your ice didn't materialize into a power loss. It sure looks lovely, something I have to admit, as much as I hate ice!
