T Stands for Tuesday

   Happy T Stands for Tuesday,

Looks like this is our last Tuesday for July too, I am actually glad to see July coming to an end as it has been non stop high 90's and 100's f with humidity all month.

Checking out this week's weather forecast, a big change since I last looked-rain chances every day and much cooler days-I'll take it smiles 😀  I would not mind a total wash out but Wednesday our new lift for the boat is to be installed, and our neighbors to the right of us are having their huge family gathering-members come from all over the country beginning this weekend. I even share a parking spot behind my car for the week if they need it. This will be their first since covid hit so I am excited for them. We have been blessed with kind and friendly neighbors on both sides of us. He came over yesterday, saw our boat was not on the lift last weekend and this weekend and wanted to make sure we were alright. That is a good neighbor. They come out to their lake home mostly after labor day, when the lake is not so crowded with craziness. We always enjoy sitting on our deck watching the very young grandkids fish. They are really good at it too

Sorry, again not much to share for Tuesday, as I haven't done much really except to "survive" this weather. I have been working on books that have been on my kindle for awhile. Do you ever get angry at an author? It's just a story right? Well, I won't share the author but the second book in a three book series-just ended with a cliff hanger ending that was a tragedy for the two main characters. It was so abrupt I doubt that any reader saw it coming. She ends it by saying God told her to do it, and the third book is more expensive than the first two. I was very upset over this, shocked really. I found her on Facebook and messaged her privately and had let her know I have read most all of her books and was very very unhappy with this book.  For me this was a money grab. I deleted all of her books off my kindle and canceled my order for the third book.

Took me awhile to feel better about the whole thing, It's only a story right? Many of us that read allot really get invested in the characters and they become real in some cases especially if part of a series of books.  I looked in my kindle and found an author I have not read yet-she writes cozy mysteries. It's good so far. I don't usually read contemporary  or mysteries I mostly read historical fiction, and some time travel stories from a couple favorite authors of mine.

Okay enough about books. This past week I made two batches of keto churned ice cream. I hadn't made any ice cream all summer for us. I made a vanilla ice cream that I added in fresh strawberries and blueberries.

I bought two of these vintage ice cream dishes several years ago for one of our anniversaries Really love using them, and they remind me of a childhood ice cream shop Bonnie Doone Ice Cream in Mishawaka Indiana. They made all their ice cream on site. Inside they served ice cream sundaes in dishes like these. Well I had to look them up-they are still there  Haven't been back there since 1967 when I graduated high school.

On Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date I will share my second batch of churned ice cream-dark chocolate-expresso. A new flavor for me.  The base tastes really good.

I do have a lovely slow mail hand stamped card to share. One of my slow mail friends and I love wolves, She sent me this hand stamped wolf card-I Love it! I have this card sitting on my mantel near two handmade bells Larry brought back to me years ago from a hunting trip to South Dakota. Made by Native Americans in that area. They are both hand signed inside the bells.  The pottery behind the card is handmade, and to the right are vintage pottery pieces.

Here in Missouri our primary elections will be on August 2nd. There is a very important election coming up in November   There are so many candidates for both the US House and the US Senate this year for my state of Missouri; that I needed to look them all up online and learn more about them. I am down to three choices for both the house and the senate-I will be doing more research before I vote in the primary.  There are also elections for Missouri state's house and senate as well.  Too important not to do the research and vote wisely this year.

For my drink share, I bought this bottle of wine during my last big food shopping trip. Same brand as I had bought before but a different flavor. That week the price was back to around $4.00-not bad though You can also see my margarita fixings to the left (haven't made any of those in a long time) and sorry the photo came out a bit blurry  blame it on our heat wave haha

Happy T and new week ahead

    1. thank you I am very grateful that we have good neighbors here at the lake. we are not used to "city" type living-we were living on 300 acres of woods before so this was an adjustment for sure

  4. Another great post, Kathy! I am going back to reread this one. Yes, I have gotten upset with authors before. I love Willa Cather but she's prone to kill off main characters too. Of course, I expected that In Death Comes for the Arch Bishop. I love your ice cream dishes. My grandmother used to take me with her when she went into town. We always ended the trip at the corner drug store where we were served ice cream in dishes similar to yours. I even eat my black-eyed peas in crystal dishes - you know the ones that used to come in boxes of oatmeal. We are almost holding our breath as we await the arrival of rain and cooler weather. It should reach you first. Grab a handful and toss it my way. :~)

  5. It's also been hot and dry here in Austria for weeks - only a very short rain, of all things, while we were in an outdoor cinema, but luckily it was soon over. I always wish for rain at night if it doesn't bother anyone :-DD - then a lot of water can come down from the sky ;-) Today in the evening we visit an outdoor music festival - supposedly we'll get rain again tomorrow, so it doesn't bother me. Let's hope you get some rain, but the family celebrations remain undisturbed...
    Your ice cream looks delicious!
I love wolves too - if you are interested, you can read my older post about a walk with a she-wolf at an Austrian wolf research center. It was a great experience: https://rostrose.blogspot.com/2015/03/walking-with-wolf.html
    All the best from Austria,

  6. I'am not a wine drinker but my daughter was determined i would find one i liked and i did end up liking a moscato.. it was a sweeter wine and i liked that. I always enjoy the names of the wine and many labels are sooo beautiful! And easy to take off and use in art/craft. lol Our rancher friend prides himself on his homemade icecream. He doesn't make it often but when he does he puts out the word and everyone flocks to his house! Last time i checked our forecast hasn't changed.. HOT and dry.. But now i'll have to go look again.. things can change.. especially with the weather.. What a pretty wolf card! Looks very nice on your mantel.. I keep saying i'm going to get a wolf stamp since i live on Grey Wolf Lane..to use on my envelopes.. I will not have my Tparty post up as early as usual as i'm waiting to see what Elizabeth posts.. not sure if i'm to post my napkins or ATC or what so i'll just follow what she does..:) Hugs! deb

    1. Hi Deb, yes some of the labels are really wonderful for art journals etc. some though are very difficult to get off-depends on what glue they use, so some I just can't save.
Yes you need a wolf stamp-hugs
I woke up to a hard rain early this morning. suppose to get 2-3 inches today. so when it rains here i pours haha.
I don't remember either when Elizabeth said to share napkins and atc's
      Happy Tuesday and new week-hugs

    2. The best method we found to remove wine bottle labels was to fill the bottle with very hot water and let it set a few minutes and they just peeled off beautifully.. maybe we were lucky? !

      Delete
    3. Yes Jo told me about that method several years ago, but some labels just won't come off for me, and I use boiling water and sometimes twice once if it doesn't work some just are using a different glue now

  7. I don't mind a cliffhanger as much in a series when you are reading in order. But it's annoying when you get to the cliffhanger -- and the new book isn't even released yet! The keto icecream looks good! The vintage dishes are especially cute!

  10. Heat can be exhausting, can't it? I'm glad you have some weather change in the forecast.Sorry you weren't happy with the ending of your book. Cozy mysteries are fun to read, and there are so many choices. It seems like whatever you like you can find a cozy series to match. Nice card, and yummy looking ice cream too. I look forward to reading about your other flavor which sounds yummy. Happy T day Kathy. hugs-Erika

  11. Nononono, Kathy! July was way too cold here mostly!

Yay for good neighbors!!! We actually have but one on floor 4. Or what you call 3, I learned at Siemens who has the American system.
    Why the heck? LOL.

Did that author care to answer you?
It is frustrating indeed to waste money and time!
Seesh. My kindle is full to the brim and I find new books all the time.
    I need to retire ;-)

Well, "a childhood ice cream shop" is one of the best memories! We had "banana split". Or "Spaghetti".

Wolves come back to Germany. It´s a so-so. They kill for the fun of it, it seems. Drag down some sheep but don´t feed on them.
One wonders. Are the animals full of chemistry, so the wolves reject them? (and yay to snail mail!).

Yes. Us old guys (sorry, take it as a compliment, please) - we do research. And we vote.
The "young" ones (here at least) just don´t care.
Women foght for the right to vote and here they kick it in the dirt.

You would laugh at what I bought today. A cinnamon-drink to warm you up!

Have a happy T and hugs - enjoy your lake!

    1. Yes childhood memories of ice cream shops are good. that's interesting about the number system.
wolves do not kill for the sport of it-only for food and survival-someone on facebook said this too, so I had looked it up. wolves get blamed for allot of kills they didn't do-and I have been reading allot of books on them, sometimes there dens with the youngsters are very far from the kill-and they can only carry so much back to the den at one time.
I agree voting is very important, even though allot of cheating going on here, I have voted every election since I turned 21-and to honor the women that fought for the vote.
I hope it warms up for you soon hugs

  12. I am still so old school have never had the desire to buy a Kindle. Besides, I like the feel of the paper in my hand as I turn the pages. Looks like I will be doing a bit more reading than normal, since a group I belong to now want to add a book every two months to our meetings. Mostly I read journals and journal articles, not books.

I completely agree that voting is a top priority, especially with so much on the line this year. I've been watching the Jan. 6 committee hearings and have been impressed with the fact that not a single Democrat has been called. All who came forward are Republicans.

Your ice cream glasses are lovely. I look forward to seeing your recipe, even though I don't have any keto related ingredients.

Your new wolf card is beautiful. It fits nicely on that shelf with the bells. You are truly blessed and to have great neighbors, too.

As you know, I'm not a wine drinker, but your wine bottle is definitely a pretty color.

Thanks for sharing your ice cream and your wine with us for T this Tuesday. Please send some of that rain our way, too. It's still well over 100 F and dry each day here.

    1. I bought a kindle because I didn't have enough space to store all the books, and most times the kindle version is much less expensive. I buy novels etc for the kindle but for how to and art and crafts books I always buy a real book. and there are some novels that I want a real book so I search online for the best price for a used hardcover book.
Yes we are very thankful for good neighbors here, and I love the wolf card too.

    3. I just read your comment on killing a baby. I would love to read real evidence of that, since I have never heard of killing a baby after it was delivered at full term. Also, women who have ectopic or septic pregnancies MUST have an abortion or they will die. However, if KS outlaws it, like it sounds like MO does, the woman will die if not given a lifesaving abortion. I can't believe even North Korea allows abortion on request. We are going backward, not forward.

    4. In Missouri the law states if the mother's life is in danger than yes an abortion can be performed. found this online "States that allow for late-term abortions with no state-imposed thresholds are Alaska, Colorado, District of Columbia, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, and Vermont" from this article .https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/what-states-allow-late-term-abortion I know I have read where some mothers at birth tell the doctors they want an abortion-

    5. More information from here on the states laws https://www.axios.com/2022/05/14/abortion-state-laws-bans-roe-supreme-court and the thing about roe v wade-this did NOT end abortions-it gave it back to the states to decide-states rights is where this issue belonged all the time this should never have been a federal law-my opinion of course

How annoying about the cliff hanger! I must admit that it has happened to me many years ago when I first had my kindle. Since then I always look at the comments and if it mentions a cliff hanger, I won't get it. Also some reviews will mention that books can be read on their own. Those are the ones I like. Like you I don't want to be pushed into buying something. Quite often they will offer the first book in a series for nothing (or very little) hoping you will buy more in the series. Fair enough, but no cliff hangers please.
    Happy T-Day,

This second book I had pre bought because I like the first book in the series-this was quite a shocker of an ending, and thinking like I mentioned was a money grab. I did contact her on fb messenger and let her know how unhappy I was-she told me I am not budging from my decision on why she ended it that way. I wrote a strong review on amazon to warn others.
      agree no cliff hangers-hugs

  17. I certainly know what you mean about getting invested in a character. With all the agendas nowadays I find a lot of authors slipping in shady characters that really don't add to the story. It seems like they are just trying to satisfy a checklist. Good for you emailing the author and canceling. They need to know and write good literature if we are going to pay.
Your vintage ice cream dishes are pretty.
