What Reading List are You Using

I am finding out that the blog list here on Blogger that I have always used in my sidebar is not working for editing.

I Can't remove blogs and also can not add blogs-sigh. and I have a couple to add now.

What reader are you using to stay updated with the blogs that you are reading? thanks

     Update-

I discovered in blog settings at the bottom is a reading list-that is updated as the newest-so I can follow along there.  There are a couple new ones I follow Amanda and Barbara's new one that I can not add to the blog roll on my blog sidebar-that won't update-but I can follow with this reading list-which I had never noticed before.

Over the years of blogging here (since around 2008 or earlier) there were over 400 blogs listed-Wow-mostly from when I followed allot of quilting blogs-I cut that number back to around 70  However this reading list did not include word press or others that I follow so I added them into the reading list.

I think I will this "new to me" way of reading blogs.

There is one natural dye blog I have followed that no longer posts (Ecouture Textile Studio) its been over 5 years now and her posts are up in the top of the reading list which is out of order newest date for sure. That's the only one that is doing that.  Ok I just figured out how to fix that issue-I added that blog to my sidebar of Inspirational blogs for natural dyeing. yeah  That one has excellent tutorial if interested in natural dyeing

Thank you for comments on this issue-I appreciate it

  1. Hi Kathy. Thanks for your comments on my post. I have just seen it!! As I mentioned there I am having the same problems as you so I presume it is a blogger glitch which I hope they will get sorted soon. I cannot delete your blog on my blog roll and update to this one either. Very annoying as I mainly use my blog roll to keep up-to-date with blogfriends!! Hope they sort it soon keep well Amanda x

    1. I have always used the blog roll too and used to update with the newest posts on top-and it wasnt doing that either very well-so I just deleted all that--the reading list though doesn't have the newest posts on the top so I have to sift through the blogs-oh well

  2. Sorry forgot to mention! When I do use it which is not very often I use the Reading list attached to my blog which I can view on the Design and edit page. However, I don't use it to keep up to date with blogs! A x

    1. I never realized this reading list was even there haha when I found it I had over 400 blogs-wow I deleted most of them but I don't like that the newest posts are not at the top of the list

  3. If you go to settings, there is a page called 'reading list'. This lists new posts from all of the blogs you are following. I usually leave this tab open as well as my blog, and can switch between them. Only YOU can see the reading list. I hope this works for you!

    1. Thank you Val-I just discovered this and I like it so far nice that it is hidden from viewers too-I may just work off of that instead and delete the list on my blog.

  4. I didn't use the blog reading list because I didn't like the way it displayed stuff. Instead, I have a list of blogs that I like on the side of my main blog page. I add to it as I find news ones. It's a list widget or something like that.

    1. thanks Anne I really like the blog list on my page here-but for at least a week now that I have tried it doesn't update-won't let me delete blogs from the list or add blogs to the list. I have also noticed for quite awhile now that it is not updating the new posts in the timely matter-hope they fix it

  5. Hi Kathy...I think Val has nailed what I’m doing. First, I have a very simple blog theme. It may not work as well in the prettier ones, but I don’t have any blogs showing in my side bar. I just read from the Reading List in my settings. It’s easy to add or delete blogs from there. It really is nice that it’s not up front, It’s convenient there, but, I don’t think anyone really cares what I’m reading. It’s hard enough to decide for ourselves what to spend time reading! Lol.

    1. thanks I deleted the blog roll from my blog since its not working now and will use the reading list-which I never knew about before-don't know why I missed that all these years
Only thing I don't like is that the posts are not listed by newest first-so its allot to sift through but will work for now

  6. I just follow blogs but haven't used a reading list. I have thought about using one, but maybe, after reading your post Kathy, think I should stick to following. Hope you are having a nice weekend. Hugs-Erika

  7. Hi, I have just come to your blog from another blog.
Yes, when you blog for a number of years, you do end up with a very long list of blogs, I had to have a "purge" not long ago :-) I keep a list of blogs I follow in my side bar and add or delete from the "Layout", my Reading list seems to work OK too, although I very rarely use it.

  8. Well, now I said that, I find I am not able to add your blog to my side bar list, but it is now in my Reading list, as I have added myself to your "Followers"; will need to keep my eye on this problem :-(

  9. I used to use my reading list all the time but now I mostly try to keep up with those in my side bar as well as making comments on the DT blogs.
I don't do that so well either - always seem to be behind, as although we have a shared laptop we both prefer the big screen and keyboard here! The laptop gets used for video calls to family and friends.
    Take care, Hugs, Chrisx

  10. Hi Kathy, like Valerie, I use my reading list. If I follow a blog it will automatically update on my list. You can also click on 'manage reading list' if you need to adjust anything.

  11. Hi the side bar has a a javascriptvoid(0) error. Blogger is aware of it and is supposed to be getting it fixed. I really like my side bar especially for those who don't use blogger or don't have a "follow" gadget on their blog. Hopefully it will get fixed. Have a good day.

    2. I see now how the reading list works-it is pretty much the newest posts first-but I have two pages of one blog( that I keep that has not posted in over 5 years now but I keep it for all of her natural dye information and tutorials) and this one always shows up at the time so I have to skim through those first to get to the newer posts this is the only blog out of order it seems

    3. I fixed that issue and moved the dye blog over to the sidebar with other informative dye blogs

  12. I'm glad Nicole left the comment she did. I've had trouble for over a week when I tried to add a blog to my left sidebar (after I was given permission). I knew Nicole had a problem, too, but I haven't been able to get Blogger to answer any of my concerns. I'm glad I wasn't able to delete any blogs, though, because I still had this one in my sidebar.
