T Stands for Tuesday-Still Spinning

Good morning, those of you that have had wintry weather and/or flooding hopefully all of you came through ok We had a nice break on Sunday with the weather that warmed up enough to finish melting off the ice and snow.  One thing nice about this area of Missouri-most all of the time it will melt away before the next wintry event comes in.  Mid week though we will be bitter cold with more snow and ice.

Tuesday is time for T with our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth. You are most welcome to join us with your post-only requirement is to post a drink related photo.

I have been doing allot of hand spinning the last several days. My goal was to finish spinning that blue fiber which I did and on to the next that I shared last week. I have been sticking with this and am almost finished. I should finish today or tomorrow. This is the best of my spinning so far-still not totally perfect but will weave up nicely.

This first photo has my cup of decaf coffee with cream

The skein on the niddy noddy is now filled up and the yarn is getting set as I type-I spray it down with water and let dry twice.  I am now filling up the third skein.

Next up in spinning are my beautiful rovings that I bought inspired by the colors in Yellowstone.

The top skein that says hand painted top I purchased at a shop in West Yellowstone in May 2017-wow it's been 3 years ago and I still miss Yellowstone-
This was local roving that was also hand dyed.
The other rovings I purchased from different vendors at Fiber U in 2017 and 2018 Last year I was good and did not buy anything at Fiber U

These fibers are so beautiful, This collection may need a little more in browns added, and perhaps a little yellow for the aspens.

One evening last week when we were really cold I made us some hot chocolate. Hubs just wanted a small cup so I put the rest in a big mug

I decided mine need some whipped cream too  😀

The sky was pretty last week as well

and the gorgeous snow moon over the lake-this photo did not do this amazing view justice when I took the photo it was still light-pretty blue sky and water with this very bright full moon

Happy T everyone

PS Valerie asked what a niddy noddy was--after you spin your yarn either on to the bobbin of a spinning wheel or on a drop spindle-you take it off and wind it on to this niddy noddy. get the yarn wet and let dry-it sets the twist and then can take off and make into a skein or use a ball winder-to make into a ball of yarn
New wooden niddy noddy's are quite expensive so I did make myself two small ones but then found these plastic ones that come apart that were made from pvc pipe-I really like these-one could make their own but liked that she had colors to choose from and I am not good with tools haha I bought two of them

Also I decided to go back to answering your comments here under yours.
Some of you still like to converse back and forth with personal emails which I always loved and really enjoyed in the past-but most of you don't do that anymore.  and I also know many of you don't have the time to go back and read a response and I totally understand that as well-but I know some of you may.
I know a couple of us in the T group answer under comments and I do go back and check for the response. Feels like I am interacting with my friends more this way.
    Just so you know

  2. I love that mug -great color, the perfect shape, and a handle that looks like it'd be comfortable. Your view is to die for, and I'll just sit here and soak it up while you yarn people chat :) The yarn colors are inspiring.

    1. Hi, thank you, I love our hand thrown pottery cups so much-the little blue one is one of my favorites. now that we have had a taste of spring I am anxious for winter to go away so I can enjoy sitting on the deck-

  3. I am also glad you shared your niddy-noddy and explained what it did. Thankfully for me and my limited craft budget, yarn has never been something I have wanted to learn about. However, I am completely thrilled that I can learn about yarn and how to use it from you (and Barbara).

You got a LOT of ice. I haven't seen icicles for years, and it made me realize how much more moisture you got than I. Your moon shots are fabulous, too.

What a great drink. I love hot chocolate and the addition of both marshmallows AND whipped cream make this a drink to die for, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing your spinning, your fabulous shots from the lake, and your hot chocolate with us for T this almost Tuesday.

    1. We did end up with allot of ice especially up at the top of the steps-the water seems to set right there and the ice was really thick for awhile-I got most of it up so I could get up to the mailbox-which is up on the road.
I thought too that marshmallows and whipped cream was extra special (smiles)

  5. I cannot help it, Kathy, I always have Dornröschen/Sleeping Beauty on when you start spinning! ;-)

You are the only person I "know" that can do this handiwork! It looks wonderful!
    Oh, I love that lake-picture!

I usually, if I have something to say at all (... ;-)...) go back and let the fellow blogger know on his/her blog. By now "we" are far too many to not loose out on one...
    A happy T-day to you!

    1. Good morning, I loved Sleeping Beauty. there are quite a few spinners and crafters-knitting, crochet, weaving etc here in the States. I love doing, this summer I am going to get one of my spinning wheels out and see how that goes again-mine are really old and I never got them set up well so the wheel stays turning.
If someone asks a question then I go back to their post too and answering it.
      Happy T hugs

    1. Hi Jo, thank you-I am excited to begin spinning this lovely Yellowstone colors. Hot chocolate and marshmallows are my most favorite during winter and in the summer I splurge and drink root beer floats-only time I drink a soda.

  7. Kathy the colours of the wool are gorgeous and I can imagine them made into something warm and snuggly .Im looking forward to seeing what you make with hen. I used to have to stand with my arms outstretched with the wool over them while my Mum or Grandma wound it into balls, ha,ha,
    Beautiful photos of the lake.

  8. Kathy, is the bright-light orange with white spots roving a silk blend? It has shimmer. Great photos around your home. I never had any luck getting full moon shots over water when we lived on water. Mother Nature can’t be duplicated sometimes. Good for you doing the spinning!

  9. You sounds like you're having similar weather to us here in NH. Cold and raw. Oh but it is winter. I love that yarn you have spun. It is really pretty. What are you going to do with it? But maybe the spinning is the fun part. I have done a bit but not a lot so when I retire maybe I will hand spin some more. And homemade coco sounds just delicious right now. Hope your T day is going well. Hugs-Erika

    1. I always wanted to learn how to spin but never had the time for it. I lived in Colorado back in the late 70s for awhile and bought an Ashford traveler spinning wheel that I stained and put together-it was a kit-I also bought my small loom back then too. The couple times I tried to spin I just couldn't figure it out-(no you tube videos back then) years and years later I discovered that the instructions were wrong to put it together-back then there were no classes or stores nearby for help (when I moved to Illinois) a few years ago I took up the drop spindles and really enjoy it-weaving is pretty forgiveable so I am planning to make big pillows with my very beginner yarns and I would like to weave a few garments Now that I am 70 I can't put things off anymore-so am just jumping in
My old spinning wheel has never been set up quite right, the newer wheels have ball bearings now to help them run smoother-I need to figure out some adjustments so my wheel will stay turning while I spin-something is off with it.

  10. Good morning! Wow-that lake is right outside your home!? Amazing-and wonderful photos. Yes-marshmallows AND cream-perfect!
I tried drop spindle spinning and I didn't have anyone to help me so I sorta gave it up! Your wool projects look yummy! I do love to knit though.

    1. Yes we just recently moved to the lake-we retired to about 300 acres in the woods and loved it-but it is too much work to keep up now-always allot of mowing around the buildings.
we have an event here in July called Fiber U where I was able to take a couple spinning classes but there are some excellent You tube videos now where I have learned allot too-and I can keep replaying it-I tried knitting when I was a teenager and a hard time with it-too much math for me haha

  12. Well done you for spinning. The wool is lovely and the Yellowstone colours are even more beautiful.
Thanks for the explanation of the niddynoddy. I had no idea.
Yes, I agree that answering by email would be easiest, but not many people share their emails.
Wow, icicles! It must have been real cold! I love the moon and the sun photos. Beautiful.
    Happy T-Day,

    1. Hi Lisca-yes we were really cold last week for a few days-with allot of ice on the steps and lower driveway-I got most of that off right away so I could easily get to the top of the road for the mail.
I had not seen ice cicles in some time so thought that was fun to see.
Yes back when I blogged in the beginning after 2006 or so we all communicated back and forth with emails-was more social that way I think-but I thought I would answer back here again

  13. A super post to read an see the photos Kathy. The fibers and yarns are lovely colours and your spinning looks like you must have spent many hours work with the fiber. Do you know what you will be making with the wool?
Belated T day wishes Kathy. the chocolate with the cream on top looks very tempting to drink on a cold winters evening.
    Belated Tuesday T day wishes.

No I am not sure what I want to make with this one-but I do want to weave up some big pillows with my bulky new spinner yarns-and the Yellowstone colors-perhaps clothing

  14. Some interesting things I didn't know about spinning your own yarn. The last photo you took of the wool roving looks like a beautiful abstract painting, Kathy.

Love your "On Lake Time" cup. lol

Thanks for the info on the niddy noddy. Now I don't have to look it up ;-)

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx

    1. Thank you Eileen, I fell in love with Yellowstone when I was there 3 years ago, so had to pick up some fibers to spin and weave into something. I also picked up fabrics of animals etc to make a couple Yellowstone inspired quilts-I need to get busy on these bigger projects. Thanks I saw this cup and new I "needed it" haha

  15. I like the colorful fibers you got at Yellowstone. I liked how you kept adding stuff to your hot chocolate: first marshmallows, then the whipped cream. :-) That moon looked gorgeous over the lake. It was somewhat overcast here for the Full Moon, and by the time it rose high enough for me to see it, it was too cold outside for me to want to try to go out and get a photo of it. Darn! I didn't know what a niddy noddy was either, so I'm glad you showed a picture of the pvc pipe one you got. What a clever idea for whoever came up with that! Necessity is the mother of all inventions, right? :-) I'll try to remember to come back to check in case you reply. I know some of the T-Gang do that, but I usually forget to check back. Happy T-Day!

    1. Hi Anne, I hadn't looked at these fibers for over a year now-so I was wowed all over again lol I just started spinning one of them.
It was pretty cold here too-I took one photo of the moon outdoors and then the rest through the glass windows.
the niddy noddys were traditionally made with gorgeous woods-but since the fibers get wet on this-I love this modern pvc one better-and the wood ones are very expensive nowadays-I don't usually go for modern but in this case I really love this one. Thanks for dropping by

  17. How did I miss this? I'm glad you explained what a Niddy Noddy was though I would have asked. Such a fun thing to say. Niddy Noddy. The Yellowstone fibers are gorgeous. I can see the earth, sky, sunrises/sunsets. Breath-taking. We're supposed to get a sleety mix and cold temps this weekend. Hot chocolate will be just the thing. Happy T Day

  18. Hi CJ, I love that name too niddy noddy I should google that to find out the history of the name.
I am so in love with these Yellowstone fibers and colors too-I am glad you can see those things too-earth, sky sunrise, sunset and the blues for the water, I also have a pretty grey for the mud pots and rocks
we have had rain and sleet most of the day today-will be a sheet of ice everywhere come morning.
