T Stands For Tuesday & Spring in January

Good morning Tuesday,
Today we gather for T with our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth. We share a drink related post with blogging friends. I really enjoy visiting everyone here. Find the link in my right hand column.

Wow we have been spoiled here in the Ozarks in Missouri with Spring temps-60 plus f degrees for several days in a row now. It has been lovely. Some days lots of wind or clouds but I am enjoying it.
It seems to be extra nice on the weekends so we go on one of those days to work and I have been filling the suburban with craft books and fabrics so far. I now have all of my books and most of the fabrics from my craft room up in it's new room. I forgot to take a photo of the filled up shelving for fabrics (set up in closet)-will do that next time. I was hoping to not add sturdy shelving in that room to save on floor space but I think I will need to for my books and some other things. I am not good at visualizing space so will see how things work out.
This week I will start going through more items and see if there is anything I can eliminate.

If you missed it I posted about using crayons in art a couple days ago. If you have done anything with crayons and fabrics I would love to know more. This will be a must do project to try out once settled at the lake house. Looks like much fun to be had.

I may also start sharing books that I am reading in a seperate post during the week.
I have been trying out a few new authors for me. I have lived in rural areas for many years now-so I do not have a convenient library to use. and in many cases now if you don't live in the city where the library is located than that library card is very expensive-upwards to $200.00 for the both of us-that's too much money for me.
I did not think I would want an ereader because I do love books especially for cookbooks, how to books, and favorite authors. Probably about 4 years ago now I purchased the Voyage which is not hooked up to the computer, it is only a quality ereader from Amazon. I buy the books on the computer and then the free 3G downloads to my ereader. Since we have never lived in an area with good computer speeds or wifi access this has worked out well for me. I love the light on this reader too and nice that one can change the font style and size as well.
Do you have an ereader?  For me do to where we live it has worked out well for me-cheaper access in most cases to lots of novels I would not otherwise get to read.  I do go to the real books though if the price of an ebook is outrageous-over $5.00 is outrageous to me especially when in most cases I can find a used book with shipping for less than that.
Hubs spotted a used bookstore in the town nearest to the lake house-next to a thrift shop so I will be checking that out too.
Any opinions on ereaders and books? for us rural folks the ereaders I think have been a blessing.

I started sewing the pages to my fabric journal this week. Will share a photo when that is completed.

For my beverage reference I finally tried out my new Yellowstone cup-I am loving the feel of the large handle. I brewed up a pot of my chicory beverage with cream.

If you look close you might be able to tell that these are two bucks. I am thinking they are a pair of twins that visited us with their Mom when young-as their antlers are identical
Hubs spotted them first and when I grabbed the camera they took off-more skittish than the does
(photos will enlarge to full size just click on them)

I took this over the weekend-not a real good photo do to the sunshine-but I have the pull curtains opened up all the way for the view

Happy T everyone

  1. Hi KAthy, you have been very busy. I do most of my reading on my Kindle as it is a big help for me that I can increase the print size. I still have lots of books here, well over 1000, a lot of them non fiction, and I don't want to get rid of them. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  2. I have enjoyed reading your post Kathy and the view of the lake from your new home looks beautiful, you seem to be making progress moving your craft items over to the new house.
I was quite amazed that you have to pay library fees. To borrow from our lending libraries is free, we only have to pay a small fee if we want to borrow a book that the library may not have on its shelves. They then order it in from the larger town libraries. This is why we in the local villages are supporting out part time library in the hope they will keep it open.
Your new mug looks lovely, I also like larger handles on cups if I can get them.
    Happy T day wishes.

    1. growing up as a child we always went every week to pick out new books-but after that once married and living rural-just no libraries any more-I missed that.
I am looking forward to checking out the used book store

  3. I look forward to reading your book posts. I've never had an e-reader, though I have read books on my computer. We are in a city, so we benefit from the library and used book stores. I love used book stores and trust yours will be well-stocked :)

Your view! I can't get over that spectacular view. They say "location, location, location" and you hit the jackpot.

    Happy T Day!

  4. Happy New Year Kathy! I am with you about loving the actual books I can hold and page thru and make notes in if I wish. I have tried some friends' ereaders and kindles, etc. but just had no desire for any myself. Love the photo of the young bucks and what a beautiful view you have! Happy T day!

  5. I enjoy reading on my ereader basically because its not as heavy when I smack myself in the face with it while "sleep reading". We have a good public library system...actually we use two different counties library systems since we live so close to the county line.
    Happy T day!

  7. Your Yellowstone mug is lovely, nice green color. A shame all the national parks now are suffering because of the government shutdown. I'm a book person so don't have any sort of e-reader. Hard to find good books or magazines here because of censorship though so that's why I like to travel (or when friends travel and can bring me something back). Will be nice to have a thrift store and used bookshop closer to you.

  8. A very enjoyable with yhe beautiful view from your window and unusual mug as well.

I always read real books and we are so licky to have free lonraries and also lots of charity shops with very cheap books
A recent addition is a book seap in the shopping centre. You can
Take any books you have read and get the same number back from the ones on the exchange table.

    A very Happy T day

    1. Oh I love that idea of exchanging free books-Barbara was telling me about that too. I love real books too but with my voyage kindle I can read more novels for free or around .99 so I love both

  9. actually i spend more money on real books since i have an e-reader (which i bought for comfort reasons when travelling or being on the train). but the last years i started buying much more artist books (often in museums, when visiting an exhibition), hat really bulks up. heaps are building here and there, the shelves are overboarding. but living among books is a really special feeling i would not want to miss.
happy t-day, kathy - make yourself comfy in your new home:)

    1. i agree shelves of books are a comfort-I buy real books for arts crafts and cookbooks and if I really want to read something that is too expensive on the kindle than I buy a used book-I have that huge stack of the Outlander series I am reading now Happy T

  10. I've never heard of any library charging for a card. That blew me away. If they have Library loans from libraries in the surrounding towns, there might be a small charge, but they don't charge us for cards. I hate to tell you, Kathy, but you really DO live in the sticks (grin).

This is the first time I noticed the big handle on your green Yellowstone mug. It is lovely, but that handle would sell me. Great grip factor.

I'm a bit confused by the photo leading out to your deck. Are those sliding doors in the middle of the block of windows? If so, is that a heat/ac vent just inside one of the doors? Seems like it should be near the side window like the one on the right. You DO have a gorgeous view, and I can see sitting out there all spring and autumn, too, surrounded by plants in pots. You can tell I'm in landscaping mode.

Thanks for sharing your mug and your thoughts on e-readers with us for T this Tuesday. I think I pointed out how I feel about those in your previous post. BTW, I'm near sighted, so I don't need glasses to read, even very small print.

  11. I think I need to sit and look at your view for awhile. Do you have a nice comfortable chair for me? I read a lot. My books come from the library or thrift stores and every Christmas I'm sure to receive one or more as gifts. I do have an e-reader. One of my daughters gave it to me for my birthday. I really don't use it much although I can see it would be handy if traveling. Give me a nice fat hardbound book and I'm happy.

  12. I'm with Elizabeth, I never heard of a library charging for a library card. And I'm shocked too that you have to renew your library card every couple of years. I thought they were good for a life-time. I had a Nook, but prefer reading e-books on my iPad or even the computer as you can read all formats. Love the photos of the deer. I think I found deer footprints in the mud in my yard. The view from your new house is amazing. Love that wall of windows. Will be the perfect place inside or out to sit and have a cuppa in your favorite mug. Happy T Day

    1. I am happy to read that most of you do not have to pay for a library card. we do have one in a nearby town where we live now that is free for the whole county. but they are are small and have limited books and it is hassle to get the books back in two weeks as I don't drive into town that often.
yes I anxious to enjoy that view-Happy T

  13. Wow, the view of the lake is spectacular! You must feel so blessed to have your Lake house 😁. It's great to hear that you are moving things in already and the nearby bookstore sounds fabulous, it will be fun looking through all those second-hand books! I thought that I wouldn't get use to ebooks either but I use an app called "EBook Reader" on my tablet which is ok. I love your Yellowstone mug! Wishing you a very happy T Day! J 😊 x

  14. Yes, my Kindle (Amazon e-reader) sounds like the thing you have, with the free 3G to download anywhere. I too live rurally, and it's the only way I get to read books in English as the library in the village doesn't have anything in English. I wouldn't want to be without it. The oldest one we had has now sadly given the ghost but the new ones are so expensive, hubby bought an ipad instead and he uses that to read, while I still have my Amazon account on the e-reader.We share one account so it doesn't matter. I hardly ever spend more than 99c on a book. On rare occasions 1.99 eur.
What a lovely view you have. Thank you for showing us.
And I agree that your mug is awesome. Big handle and a lovely hot drink. Hmmm.
    Happy T-Day,
    Lisca

  16. Oh you are going to enjoy that nice lake view at your new house. I can't believe how warm it is though. We are right around freezing but by the end of the week we are going to down below 10 degrees at night. Boy we have such a big range of temperatures in this country, don't we? Love the mug too. Hope it was a great T day. hugs-Erika

  17. I have a Kindle Paper White and I love it. It is black and white but there is no back light so it is just like reading a print book. I download mostly free books as they have deals all the time. I check daily for Kindle book deals. I don't think I have ever paid full price for a book. Also, check to see if your library participates with online reading/audiobook apps such as Overdrive, Hoopla or Libby. It is included with you card so downloading books would be free.
    And your view is gorgeous!
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  20. I'm with you, Kathy. An e-reader is essential because of where I live too. I get hubby's old one whenever he upgrades. I have his old iPad now. I don't care for it because it'd more complicated than a plain e-reader and it has lots of ads.

Great photos of your lake house view - wow! - and the twins.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
