Hi everyone,
Tuesday is where we share a beverage and a post with friends.
Hosted by Bleubeard and Elizabeth, you are most welcome to join us-find link in my right had column.
We have enjoyed more of a "low-keyed" week. For me allot less cooking so far, and Hubs is doing well with his second cataract surgery. The next day his eye was feeling much better. We go in for the final check up this Wednesday morning.
Up and down weather here-snow to warm to cold again, but weather promises to be warm and sunny on Thanksgiving Day and then cold and raining on Friday. This year we have been invited over to our friends home-but I plan on making up a turkey for us over the coming weekend. Along with some veggie sides and pie of course lol
I have been working a bit on designing my May page in my fabric journal, so hopefully next week I will have a photo to share.
Are any of you watching the Outlander series or reading the books ?? I had bought the first book for my kindle a few years ago and just hadn't gotten to it. The one time I did start to read it, I couldn't get in to the story.
We had friends that raved about the series on Starz-but we had missed a couple years of it-so I was lost in the story.
This week I decided to start reading the first book again and I had also found the cookbook for kindle at a reduced price.-I love the cookbook very much, and I am loving this first book. I usually find that the books are always better than the movies. So I decided I wanted to read the books first before catching up with the series on Starz
I am finding that this is not a book to read fast or when tired-there is so much to absorb-an excellent writer. She is very detailed about everything-I can only imagine all the research she has done-and I am only on the first book.
So being ready to read the rest of the books-there are 8 now plus a guide type book-I went online to purchase the next two-wow big surprise-the kindle edition is very expensive as are all the used books and those are plus shipping. So I went on Ebay-mostly expensive there as well but I found someone selling all 9 books with free shipping for a price less than I found elsewhere for each book
So now I am definately all set for reading this winter. (smiles)
Hallmark has started their new Christmas movie previews earlier this year-they started over the weekend and will continue through next weekend-so that's what I am watching this week in the evenings lol
For my beverage share tonight I grabbed my favorite cup-before my Yellowstone cup-and am enjoying a cup of tea. chamomile with lavender; one of my favorite evening herbal teas
I love this cup, it was made in England.
Happy T everyone!!
I've never heard of Outlander. Not surprising, since I don't have Starz. It sounds like you are hooked, though. At least you have something to read between packing and moving. Sounds like you got a good deal on the books, too.
ReplyDeleteHallmark and HMM have been showing nothing BUT Christmas since the end of October. They do it every year, it seems. I am NOT a Christmas movie person, so I have found channels I didn't even know existed after I could no longer watch HMM, my very favorite channel.
I'm not a fan of chamomile, but your tea with lavender sounds good. And I agree that this mug is a genuine beauty. Thanks for sharing your Outlander series, your beautiful mug and your tea with us for T this Tuesday. And happy Thanksgiving, Kathy.
I watched the series of Outlander and found it good. Enjoy your Hallmark films! Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletethanks Valerie
Deletei´m looking forward to your fabric book... i´ve fallen behind and did not even make october so far on my scroll. "the show is over" for me... i noticed i do not have time for anything else. it was good as long as it lasted (1 year), but now i´m up for new things.
ReplyDeletehappy t-day and thanksgiving weekend, dear kathy!
I am really behind with my journal-since May-good thing I took lots of notes-I think the Outlander series has been on the tv for several years now. I think I will enjoy the books allot-I love long books and this author writes such detail
Deletethank you and Happy T
Its good to read that all is going well for your husband and that you have been enjoying a quieter week after your visitors went home.
ReplyDeleteI've not read the Outlander books, but I do try to read books before I see a TV series or film.
Happy T day and Thanksgiving Day wishes Kathy.
Yvonne xx
thank you so much-
DeleteI have been watching the Outlander series. Even my husband too. We enjoy it. I've read 2 of the books. I really enjoy them although I think they are just a tad bit too long. I love your tea cup too. I am a big fan of ceramics. Have a happy T day and happy Thanksgiving too. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of very long books-so these will work out well for me-I just need to remember to read slow and enjoy-I am bad at reading fast so I know what happens in the end lol then I miss allot.
DeleteSo pleased that your husband is doing well after his eye surgery! I haven't read the Outlander books, but a lot of my friends have and they really enjoyed them 😀. I love your mug (after your Yellowstone mug ...lol 😉) too! Happy T Day wishes! J 😊 x
ReplyDeleteha ha yes my Yellowstone mug will always come first I believe (smiles) Happy T hugs
DeleteI have heard of the Outlander series but have not had a desire to read or watch. Hope you enjoy it. I'll be looking forward to seeing what is available of the Hallmark movies on Hulu Live now that we got rid of cable. Love your choice of tea and that pretty mug. Happy T day and a happy Thanksgiving too!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, I have read a few historical time travel novels from a couple favorite authors of mine. I really love historical based novels and I appreciate that this author does so much research.
Deleteenjoy the hallmark movies-I always enjoy those-Happy Thanksgiving
Good news about your husband. I'm a reader (not a tv watcher) but I've not read the Outlander series. It must be available at my local library so if I get the urge I'll try to get it there. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteHi, we have a small rural library so I have just gotten in the habbit now of buying the books-but nicer sometimes to just borrow them. I really love books on my kindle-takes less space and usually less expensive.
DeleteYep ... when i first found the series ( a couple years ago) i spent the Winter reading about Claire and Jamie.. lol I love the series... And even find the movies pretty good.. .ofcourse they have to leave alot out.. I don't get Starz.. My daughter sent me the first season on DVD but i've missed the others and i think they are on the 4th season now.. I'm a cheapskate so i never find the DVD's cheap enough that i will buy them.. lol The books were probably expensive because they were taking advantage of the fact that the Season 4 on Starz had just started.. Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are enjoying these books as well. since these books are now popular stories on starz I agree that is keeping the price up there-but high prices for an ebook really bugs me.
DeleteI'm glad the eye surgery went well and recovery is going well :) I don't tend to like stories with time travel elements and so haven't looked into Outlander at all. It does get good reviews. I love that mug :) Happy T Tuesday!
ReplyDeletethank you this one is my second favorite mug-
DeleteI love Outlander. My friend, Red, introduced me to it 20 some odd years ago. I have read the first 4 or 5 books a couple of times. I'm 1/4 of the way through the 8th book. Red has Starz so I go over there on Tues. to watch the episodes on demand. Gabaldon is an excellent writer. The story has things in it for everyone. Historical, historical romance, sci-fi.
ReplyDeletewow I didn't realize she had written the first book that long ago-Yes I can see already she is an excellent writer and I love long in depth books too
DeleteI'm glad your hubby is recovering well from his eye surgery. And now your visitors have gone you can relax alittle bit.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have read the first Outlander book. (Not seen the series as we don't have tv). I must admit I didn't like the book at all. The idea of time travel appeals to me and I have read a few books with that theme, but this one was too graphic for me. The book is well researched historically. Perhaps a bit too well with all the wife beating, rape and pillage that goes with it. Her relationship with Jamie is volatile and in the end I got tired of all the explicit sex scenes and I gave up without finishing it. I think I read three quarters of it and I do hope you enjoy it as you have bought the whole series....
Happy T-Day and
Happy Thanksgiving,
Lisca
Yes I have started the first book, and she does her research well-very graphic on punishments so far-that was what was done back then. if things get too praphic I just speed read over those. lol
DeleteHappy T-hugs
I'm glad hubs' eye surgery went well and that it's over with.
ReplyDeleteWe enjoyed the first two seasons of Outlander, though some of the violence made me close my eyes. So brutal. Season 3 was okay. Season 4 stinks. I think it's hard to sustain such a strong start. They had a fabulous cast of well-developed characters. Oh well ... we'll find something else. We also are starting to watch vintage Christmas shows. It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas ...
You'll have two turkeys?! We're not having any this year for the first time. I may miss the leftovers - they're the best! We decided instead to special order Peking duck from the local Chinese restaurant. That makes us both think of the Christmas dinner at the Chinese restaurant in Jean Shepherd's "A Christmas Story." Love that movie!
Happy Thanksgiving and T-day! Eileen xoxo
I have read that season 4 has been a disappointment I just got starz since Hubs likes the show-he watched it last year. I think I will enjoy the books-as she is an exceptional writer.
DeleteI forgot about the peking duck in that movie--yes we got invited over to a friends for thanksgiving day-we enjoy turkey so I bought us a small one and will invite a different neighbor over that is a widowerer now-probably on saturday.
Happy Thanksgiving
I have heard a lot of people talk about the Outlander books and series, but don't have a clue what it is about. I am glad you are all set up for reading this Winter! ON the other hand, I love all the Hallmark movies, and usually can watch them more than once! I was watching one earlier this afternoon!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!
I really love the Hallmark movies too-which is actually totally opposite of Outlander which has some R rated stuff in it--so far I am enjoying the new Christmas movies they are showing now each night
DeleteI have always wanted to read the outlander books but I have yet to get to them. I don't think that I will be watching the TV series as I have heard it is rated R. But books are always better than the movies anyway.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Thanksgiving with your friends. And your cup is beautiful!
Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Tea Day,
Kate
I like to read the books first before I see the films-better way to get the whole story too.
Deletehappy Thanksgiving-enjoy your get together-hugs
OH!!!!! I love the Outlander Series!!!!! I read the books years ago when they first came out and loved them. I read them twice! The series is very good and the costuming is fantastic . I have joined a fiber group that does Outlander inspired knits and crochet patterns that I have thoroughly enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteI wish I still had the books... I let a friend borrow them and she gave them to someone else :(
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Carol
Oh yes!!! I love Outlander Kathy! I've read all the books now, and I'm enjoying the latest series. I watch it on Amazon Prime, they have all of the series :-)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy reading and have a good week.
