T Stands For Tuesday & Follow Up on Class Projects Lots of Photos & a Giveaway

Another Tuesday is upon us and Just where has July gone??

Welcome to our T Party-T Stands for Tuesday with our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth-find link in my right hand column, you are most welcome to join in.
Only requirement is to share a photo of any beverage you are drinking.

Summer will be totally over before we know it but I do love September and October here in the woods. The weather has been horrible for the most part here since May when we got cold Winter instead of Spring and then it jumped right into a very very hot and humid June and July.
We have been blessed by Mother Nature though this past week with much cooler temperatures and no or very little humidity-but we have missed most of the rain and t storms.
         ok enough weather talk 😃

Over the past couple days I finished up little projects from my Fiber U classes. I waited a few days and then hand rinsed my dye samples, dried them, labeled them, and added to the large ring the teacher provided us with. She was the most organized teacher I have had in a long time.

Note: all photos will enlarge to full size-just click on them

That white skein was an experiment and no dye resulted
Also the black walnut dye with the whole dried nuts would be a lovely chocolate brown if yarn is left to soak in the dye bath for a week or so

I had made several rolags for spinning, and I was able to take home the fibers I didn't get to finish blending together during the class time.
I was quite happy with the results-Used my drop spindle which I really enjoy using. My yarn is still on the bulky side but I still love it. However, I did have a spinning break through during my last rolag, as I handled the fiber a bit differently and was able to get a finer yarn-so am excited about that.
These are my "art yarns" instead of beginner yarns ha ha

I wanted to share a couple photos on how you carefully pull out on the rolag and then draft the fiber out and then spin I used mostly alpaca, silks, and mint fibers. I also used a couple wools and added in a bit of sparkly fibers.

On the niddy noddy sprayed with water-then left to dry and set the twist

My favorites were the 4 rolags with the the pretty blue alpaca, silks, white mint, and white alpaca with a little sparkles We asked but the teacher did not know how they made spinning fibers from mint, milk, soy, and others The mint was very soft.

For my GIVEAWAY I want to share my band weaving project. The loom is threaded and ready to weave, printed information included, she also has a sheet of links for you tube videos This was really a nice kit with everything included to get one started-even the threaders and lease sticks.  This was my most expensive class and I got the least enjoyment from it.
This is just not for me-I have 4 harness looms that I would rather set up and get busy weaving on-soon I hope.

note-I didn't care for the choice of colors-they were red and white and purple and white-I don't like white all that much-even in quilting I never used just white. So I found this one green and gold-Green Bay Packer colors ha ha

Here are some photos:

Soooooo anyone with a USA mailing address is welcome for my giveaway-just mention you want to be included in comments. If there is more than one person interested I will draw early Wednesday USA time.
I am happy to offer this as a giveaway rather then let it just set in my craft room not woven.

Our friend Mr L gifted me with a box of canning tomatoes and sweet peppers over the weekend. Wow!! I said perfect for canned salsa making. So, I went into town this morning and picked up more sweet peppers, jalapeno and poblano peppers, onions, fresh cilantro  I will make and can this all up Tuesday morning.
We have lots of young hummingbirds so I am filling the feeders 3 times a day now-so I picked up 50 pounds of sugar (2  25# bags) as well.

For my beverage this early evening,  I am drinking a cup of yogi tea in my favorite Yellowstone cup

I started saving my tea bags-I made a couple atc's with them-fun now that I changed up the glue I am using. lol

and for Sweetness photos:

I didn't get many photos this past week but we enjoyed several families of deer. Our mama deer with twins, another mama deer and very very young twins, and another mama deer with her young one.
I put out some watermelon rind today, which they really enjoy

and if you enlarge the photos below and look closer you will find 2 little mini grey squirrels these guys make me laugh as they are so tiny. What is funny though they usually live up closer to the highway in the woods along our driveway, and the big reddish squirrels live down here. This is the first year since we have lived here they are now down in this area-someone must have told them about the free corn 😉

and in the back we have patches of "surprise" flowers-I don't remember what their name is-but they are always a surprise when they pop up.  They are a month or so early as well in blooming.

Happy T Day everyone!!
Sp glad you dropped by

  1. Those are called surprise lilies or naked ladies. They are a member of the Lycoris family. I've also heard it called resurrection lily.

I was really impressed with your wools and their tags. Now you know exactly what you are looking at and for, too. Your rolages turned out GREAT. Most impressive. Also loved the way you wrapped the spun fibers, too.

I am SO sorry about that expensive class you took. I think you should notify the people who run the event, even though you left a comment card. The woman should not teach again, and they might even reimburse you part of your fee, too. I hope several people are interested in that giveaway, because it is a great one. Unfortunately, I would NEVER make anything from it, although I have a friend who makes things very similar.

Your salsa sounds good. You certainly got a lot of great tomatoes and peppers from your friend. Wish we lived closer. I would give you more cilantro than you know what to do with!

As always, I love seeing your Yellowstone mug, and I am going to make some tea just for the bags, too. Thanks for sharing your lovely dyed items, your rolags, and your Yogi tea with us for T this almost Tuesday. And thanks again for the incredible TWO ATCs you sent me.

  2. Your hand dyed yarns come out gorgeous Kathy. I think the fiber fest and classes were worth your time. An I am in awe of how many times you have to fill your hummingbird feeders. Mine empty pretty fast too but I leave them emptier at night because we have a visiting bear a lot lately, but I certainly don't need to fill them 3 times. You have a huge number of hummers. Hope you have a happy T day! Hugs-Erika

  7. I was fascinated by your dyed yarns, all dyed with natural dyes and your spun hank looked absolutely marvellous. These natural dyes have given such beautiful soft colours.

  8. The colours of the yarns look beautiful Kathy. Classes can be costly to attend, but if you come away feeling happy it is worth it. I hope you were able to leave feedback for the class that wasn't up to expectations.
The photos of the deer were sweet and it was good to see the squirrels visiting as well.

  9. Your yarns are beautiful. Sorry about the class. I've had a few of those where the teacher does gorgeous work, but really doesn't know how to teach. The deer pictures are so sweet. Wow, that's a lot sugar to go through. Yup,the word is out there are good things to eat at your wild life sanctuary. Enjoy your day.

  12. Lovely colors on your dyeing! We are having too much heat too. My tomatoes simply stopped growing due to it. Hopefully the few we have on the plants will mature, but it has been a bad year for the garden.

  13. Maybe I missed it, but starting from the top of your post, Kathy, what yarn did you use to dye? They all look great, even the white one. :) Your spun rolags look beautiful. I think I can see where you had a break-through! What an exciting moment. I’ll join the giveaway if you think it would be good for my hands. I tried more conventional weaving recently, but didn’t pursue it beyond a small project. Different kinds of weaving use the hands in different ways, maybe I should know about thiskind. It’s something I've never tried, but who knows, maybe it’s what I need. I’m supposed to be doing things with my hands. I suspect you are making up that salsa right now. Very special, I’m sure! We have tons of gray squirrels here, all sizes depending on the season. They play like kids, chasing each other. It’s a challenge to keep them out of the bird feeders, even those called “squirrel proof”! They always find a way. I have an email forming in my mind about a spinning issue, will get to it later. Happy T day! Be well.

  14. The yarns look so beautiful! And the spun hank is simply gorgeous!
The photos of the deer are so sweet and it is lovely to see the squirrels visiting as well. And you are a wonderful caring bird lover! They will love you! We feed the birds here also the whole year and just now they can get not enough! I need much more than in winter. They are so lovely and it is worth the money when I can see how good they all feel!
    Happy T day wishes Kathy.

  15. Your dyes are beautiful. It must be so fun looking for yarn to use as you have quite the selection. But that photo of your multi-colored spun yarn is so gorgeous! You have quite the talent for fiber art.
I hope you share photos of your homemade salsa. My family gets together every fall to make salsa. We have so much fun but it certainly takes a lot of work. It is usually a whole day affair.
I really love your Yellowstone mug. I like how there is a map on the inside of the mug. And most flavors of Yogi tea I have tried, I like.
That is so generous of you to giveaway the kit from your class and I would love to be entered. I agree that you should try to get a refund of some sort. How disappointing to pay all that money and not learn what was described.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

salsa does take a long time especially with just me making it and canning it-so it would be fun as a family event!
thank you for complements with my yarns hugs Happy T Day

  16. Absoutely fascinating, Kathy. I love the color sample idea and was very intrigued by the different colors you can get from logwood. I'd never heard of the tree, so I looked it up. The tree isn't very pretty but those colors sure are!

You make your own salsa? Wow! I bet it's better than the commercial ones. Probably healthier too.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

    1. good morning, I had not dyed with woods before so I really enjoyed this class-the logwood is lovely and what is what many use in eco dyeing-however logwood is not lightfast so will fade in the sun
Yes homemade salsa is the best-and a few years ago I finally found the perfect canning recipe-I will share it soon

  18. I love summertime, but even more than that I love seasons. The change of seasons is always exciting, and there's something special about Autumn in the woods. It looks like you're in a great place to enjoy it :)

You are enjoying the hummingbirds, I know! We have one who comes through twice a day, so my feeder doesn't need re-filling ever because it runs out lol I clean it twice a week, but it's always still almost full when I do. We get gray squirrels here but no red. It'd be fun to have both :) I love your surprise lilies! Mother had them in her backyard. Sweet.

    Happy T Tuesday

  19. PS...a long post, and now realized I didn’t reference it all. Lol. I love the purplish color you got from logwood! I also always love sparkles, what a beautiful array of color and sparkle. I will devour your link that helped you more carefully draftout the roving for thinner yarn. I need that badly, and have it bookmarked.

  20. I am so impressed how those dyes turned out. Beautiful.
How generous of you to do the giveaway. I know you did not enjoy the weaving. I think it was all down to the teacher.
The wool skeins at the end are absolutely gorgeous! What are you going to do with it? I would just sit there and stroke it (and drool of course).
    Happy T Day,

  22. Kathy, I left a voice message to my friend asking if she would be interested in the loom, but since I haven't heard back from her, no need to add her name to the list. Since you have two others who are interested I think that is enough. If things change, I'll let you know tomorrow. But thanks for thinking of me (and her).

How lovely to have the deer so close, along with the squirrels and the humming birds you have such a great moving tableau!
