A couple years ago I tried painting with acrylics and also watercolor paints. I like the watercolor paints better. I got discouraged as this needs lots of practice, never took a class, but I have picked up a few books.
I do like the watercolor book on wildflowers, and today I got the newly published book on making watercolor paints from botanicals and veggies which looks really good. I need to buy a few supplies to get set up though. This looks like a good beginning for this project. Her You Tube channel is excellent with all sorts of different botanicals to make into the watercolor paints. One needs the book though to know what added ingredients are required to make the watercolor paints.
I have a little desk top mini easel that is perfect for me. I grabbed a thick piece of paper that was included in some stationary and just played on that-for fun and to get the feel of it again. For me I think painting is a mindset-just be confident and do it haha well hoping I get better this time of trying.
So this was just for fun-used one of the flowers as a guide from the book, and added the little bird and birdseed and a little something top and bottom I think my style-if I end up with one-is more folk or country the photo will enlarge just click on it.
I really like this, Kathy.
ReplyDeletethank you Linda, I will try on watercolor paper next time
DeleteI love it! I like to dabble with painting and my preferred method is watercolor. I have no idea what I am doing but I just let the water do it's magic. My style is more whimsical which is a very forgiving style! If you mess up, you just call it whimsical or abstract and move on! LoL
ReplyDeleteVery fascinating to know botanicals can be used for watercolor but really it shouldn't surprise me.
Grace & Peace,
Pam
I Love that-hugs I will remember that-whimsical The author of the book is Joanne Green author- Natural watercolor paint making I was so happy that this book was Not printed in China Ifound her from her you tube videos

DeleteHi Kathy, Thanks for visiting my gluten-free recipe blog. I am excited about your post because I've always wanted to paint but have nothing about it. I was just thinking this morning that I should take a class or buy a book to follow. Thanks for sharing and your watercolor is lovely. It must feel good to express yourself in art.
ReplyDeleteIf you are able to take a class I think that would be awesome. I am too rural for that-but there are so many excellent you tube videos out there, and lots of books too.
DeleteI am mostly a fiber artist, done lots of natural dyeing, weaving, quilting etc but painting is out of my comfort zone but always loved watercolors.
Enjoy your day
Lovely!
ReplyDeletethank you
DeleteYour style is perfect! Because its YOU! So glad seeing you pick up a paint brush again. Love having that in common with you. and sharing.. You know i get alot of inspiration from Diane Antone.. I love her whimsical stuff.. like birds and cats... We are all feeling better here... Hubby is out getting the oil changed in the truck and i'm mowing with the mower... You get behind when sick but the World doesn't stop turning.. Have a great day Kathy!! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteThank you Deb-yes we each do our style-I found a watercolor spiral pad I had been working in-wow I forgot about what I did with my own made inks and a set of windsor newton watercolor inks-I had gotten better smiles-those were dated january 2023 and in October 2023 is when Larry fell off the stone wall-life has not been the same since.
DeleteI dug out my box of homemade inks-that have all turned to browns-but still pretty and useable.
always something-we had a lot of trouble with different issues with the new heating system that went in Jan of this year-now the blower fan is making very loud noises for the a/c always something Larry is always cold from his heart condtion so I turned the thermostate to 85 f so would not come on so much they can't come til evening tomorrow night-ugh
I am soooo behind with grass cutting etc but I just can't be in this heat-so will deal with the next cool down.
glad you are both doing good now hugs
Lovely watercolor, it is good news you are painting. The botanical for making paint sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought is how to make the paint lightfast. If any spilled on my shirt, then I am sure the color will last forever.
May
Good point I am hoping this book covers that-lightfastness
