Wow we are getting a lot of rain right now. Started early last night with lightening and thunder, hard rain no hail thankfully.
Waking up this morning it is still raining-will rain most of the day and tomorrow. The Missouri rivers will be flooded for sure. I am glad I got that one side of the property's grass/weeds cut down before all of this.
I have flower seeds to plant so am glad now I waited-I didn't want them to go "swimming" smiles. I did get out early yesterday to run some errands and stop at the local grocery store Walmart the day before did not have nice-fresh looking veggies and the store yesterday did not either. Wondering why not-perhaps in between fresh crops.
When I was at Wal mart Monday I was looking for a rosemary plant but they were all sold out. I did spot a table of nice size geraniums marked down to $10.00 I found a really nice one so took it home with me. I used to have one at the woods house-I love them. These in the fall you cut them back, before the first freeze and store them in the basement til spring the following year. I had one for many years
Many years ago when my Mom was still with us she was reading a book series The Elm Creek Quilters by Jennifer Chiaverini Now there are 22 books in the series along with numerous quilt pattern books. Back then I had access to a library for awhile and there was no kindle back then. I read a few of these which are very well written.
The beginning of this series popped into my amazon kindle emails a few weeks ago. I could not believe how expensive these books are-her publisher must be doing this. I was lucky though as many were marked down to around $1.99 instead of the higher prices around $14.00 or more for the kindle books-I could not believe these high prices for a kindle version. So anyways I kept an eye on it and was able to pick up all but 4 of the series at the lower price. I like being able to read a series like this all together-my memory is fresh and her books flow together so well. Here is the first book
Do you have a price limit on what you will pay for a kindle book? Some of these authors charge about the same as a hardcover book. Since a kindle is not a tangible book I just won't pay those high prices-my gripe for today haha
This author has also written several other books historically based
I have been enjoying browsing on Instagram lately-I am following different artists-painters, fiber artists, photographers and more. So it is a pleasing positive experience over there now. I still keep Facebook for the handful of very long time online friends-and since I don't use cell phones-people can message me there if they don't want to call on the house phone. I am not there much anymore-so many untruths floating and negatives on that site.
With all this rain I may just get back to my slow stitch bag-I am in the process of taking an area apart that I started stitching to put the bag together-a tedious process.
Enjoy your day
Updated-I did finally get a photo of my frozen yogurt-I made a second batch this morning. The one from yesterday is rock hard out of the freezer so will need to let it soften before scooping out some in a dish. I am liking the honey in this. and I finished off the vanilla extract in the first batch-but found in my pantry a bottle I had made back in 2009-excellent flavor now smiles
I have a GrandLittle today... the littlest... she will keep me busy for sure.. and probably a day off from weedeating.. The rain missed us last night then built back up just South of us... That line of storms stretched all the way up to Canada! we were on the tail end... I'm glad you did not get any bad weather.. just rain.. Hubby says to bottle some and send some our way...lol I have not had a Geranium since CA... I have a few pots that need something... Plants seem so expensive to me these days... i have a hard time putting the money out ..
ReplyDeleteI have not heard of that book series but so glad you got the ones you wanted for a good price... I still read physical books... hardcover... I buy most at the thrift book store for $1 and i do get some at thrift books dot com... I LOVE it when i'm late to the party and i can just collect up the books and read them one after the other in the series.. i don't have to wait.. Thats the way i read Outlander... i was late to the Outlander party and the Harry Potter books too.. I hope you play with your bags Kathy...I've been working in my altered Bee Book.. Have a lovely day!!! Hugs! deb
Good morning I agree plants are way too expensive-I did not buy any plants at all last year perhaps a couple the year before. The year before that i spent wayyyyy too much money at an amish greenhouse. I have been growing from seeds what I want. I am not big on red but I think it is the traditional color for geraniums and they must have just put these out as I was able to get a really nice one. I would not have spent 10.00 if this was an annual-these usually winter over nicely in the basement
DeleteI prefer hardcover books too but I reached the point I have no more bookshelf space at all. I was buying a series of books about Yellowstone wolves in hardbacks but those were expensive.
I bought used all the outlander books and ended up selling them on ebay for what I paid for them
I wish I could send you some rain-we are getting too much now. have fun with the grand little a little tea party might be fun
Hugs
AAAAaahhh... Grandma's Birthday Tea Party is coming up... And the girls picked the theme..... Halloween.... lol so now i'll be digging out all my Halloween decor... too funny... I need some ideas for food to make... little cute snack items... I went through my bookshelves not too long ago and got rid of anything i did not see myself reading again... I'm about done buying new books and series .. unless its a series i already have going .. and i'm going to read from my bookshelves otherwise why am i keeping them??? Hugs! deb
DeleteA Halloween tea party sounds fun haha are you on pinterest? I go there for ideas a lot of times.
DeleteI have a book that I just loved about the fur trading era and based around the area I grew up in. I read it from the library when I was in high school I ended up buying a copy and I do re read that one about every 10 years or so. a very well written book. Years ago on one of my first blogs here I reviewed the book and the author found it and commented-that was special-I should have copy and saved that.
I mostly buy kindle books now-but I am noticing their prices are going up-i read a lot late into the night when I don't sleep-so the kindle is perfect for that-and lighter weight to hold laying down to read.
I did buy the Twilight books and loved those very much-I have re read those several times now-I am do to re read those as well.
I just did a pinterest search for halloween snack ideas for kids https://www.pinterest.com/search/my_pins/?q=halloween%20snack%20ideas%20for%20young%20kids&rs=typed
I do have Pinterest Kathy... thank you for the link i'm going to have to sit down and check it out! Hugs!
Deleteyou are welcome-I was curious and there was a lot there on the link I go in spurts for pinterest-usually look for recipe ideas and craft art projects
DeleteWe're due for more rain over the next couple of days. I'm getting tired of it! My mom loved geraniums and I always buy some for the cottage and the gravesite. (I ended up giving those to Rick when we couldn't plant after the tornado.) They're so pretty!
ReplyDeleteGood morning the geraniums are pretty and usually hold up well I would have preferred a different color flower but red is the traditional color I think.
Deletewe are at the point of too much rain now
Hi Kathy, it is going to be 36 celsius or 96.8 fahrenheit here in Montreal today. I would love to see some rain right now. Thank you so much for your posts.
ReplyDeleteGood morning That's hot-we were almost 90 F degrees yesterday before the rains arrived now its a nice cool down.
DeleteThank you for visiting hugs
The yogurt looks delicious! Keep learning. -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletethank you hugs
DeleteThe front made it to the eastern side of the state. It's brought rain and cooler temperatures.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the cooler temperatures-my rain gauge says we got 4 inches of rain here-that's a lot more coming. a friend that stopped by said he saw lots of damage around the area-glad we are safe here. more rain tonight and tomorrow
DeleteI dont read anymore. We are expecting some storms to come in soon, but we do need some rain. It has been humid all day. Janice
ReplyDeleteDo you get emails from Book Bub? If not, you should see if you can find it Kathy. If you don't know about it (Ignore this if you do), you pick the genre of books you like, and every day they send you some daily deals from Amazon. Some books are 99 cents, some are 1.99 and some are 2.99. I'm not sure they'd have this particular series, but you can find books much cheaper than normal. For me it depends on how much I want to read a book, but usually I go for inexpensive deals. And for the rain, it seems it's all over the place. Hope it doesn't flood. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeletethnk you so much Erika I will check it out-sounds familiar but I like they find book deals.
DeleteI checked the rain gauge in my garden it had 4 inches of rain that is a lot in 24 hours. there is a lot of flooding along the rivers in Missouri but we are ok here on the lake and or woods home is high above the nearby river-take care hugs
Thanks again Erika-I had an account on there from years ago-got in with my google account and updated my password etc .I don't even have the same email anymore I totally forgot about this site
DeleteKathy, it’s good that you found books you have enjoyed and at a reasonable price. The only place I have bought books has been library book sales or thrift stores, mostly cookbooks or reference books. Now, I do not buy books except at the annual Friends of the Library sale and then donate them back later as many others do. I am a library user and thankfully can walk to the one in Nashua. I have never bought an e-book or audio book but download them (free) from the library website.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, I love that you live close to a library. Living rural for so many years now-we do not have close access to a library-and I grew up using one. just easier now to buy books or put them on my kindle.
Deletewhen we lived at the woods house I did support the library's big book sales and donated hundreds of books to them when we moved to the lake
I bought two "real" books thanks to Erika as my kindle is old....
ReplyDeleteAlso I hope for a good summer, then a real book on the balcony is best!
Sorry about all the rain. Was to come here, too, so I kept by street box (give-aways) - sun is out. To better weather, hugs to you and the lake!
I seem to need to upgrade my kindle every 6 years or so-but no longer buy an expensive kindle because they don't last any longer than the less expensive versions. we can always use rain but we have gotten soooo much this week take care hugs
