T Stands for Tuesday hosted by Bleubeard and Elizabeth (link in my right column) is where we share a drink related post. You are most welcome to join in the fun.
Speaking of the weather we finally enjoyed rain and a cool down. We really really needed the rain, hand watering is just not the same.
Things are looking better in the veggie garden. I have blooms on the zucchini and cucumbers. The beans, cabbage, one broccoli plant, a couple pepper plants are looking better now. I will have around 6 indigo plants they are growing better now too. These indigo plants look completely different from what I had grown a few years ago. I had been gifted seeds from a dyer whose blog I followed She lives in Europe. Those didn't get enough sun where I planted them, so they never matured enough for dyeing.
In the big tubs the tomato plants look lovely, however one plant got totally eaten down to the stems over one night. Usually that is from those horrible large worms that love tomato plants but I did not see any What ever it was hope they don't find my other plants.
My task I gave myself this past week was to finish my April journal page before the end of the month, and also to clean in the utility room. That is a small room but loaded with food grade buckets of foods, drinks and things. I did get the second big freezer cleaned and rearranged, went through all the buckets and found things I forgot about. I wasn't able to complete the work over the weekend as my allergies and asthma are now getting worse again. Late tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday) I can finally see the doctor.
I had made a couple really nice videos of my journal page last night and again this morning. When I am not feeling good my voice is hard to hear so that really came through in the first videos. I got a good one-wanted to load on you tube this morning-which has to be done by 8 am for less data useage-well you tube was taking 3 hours to load-craziness. I even made another video that was shorter this morning and that needed 2 hours and 30 minutes-that is just crazy and would take up all of our data for sure-we have primitive satellite internet so it is much slower than what is available in the cities. I am always thankful though for the internet being so rural.
Sooooo I will be sharing photos instead.
I am quite pleased with the results. During April I did allot of 3 mile walks and I did the National Parks and Earth Day virtual races. I had made several extra pages for my journal so next up is to make an extra page for my races.
I can see now that my journal is going to be really really thick-I may need to split this into two 6 month journal books We'll see how it goes.
The photos will enlarge full size for better viewing just click on them
First look at page:
In April we had a very cold month for the most part with no spring-well maybe a couple days. We had hard freezes, hail, snow flurries and did I say cold?-wintry So I wanted to show that with this silvery fabric I found in my crazy quilt fabric stash. I added pretty glass beads and blue stone beads, snowflakes. I made those dots-or hail-with puff paint-let dry-and then went over them with gel pens. I also was brave and stamped two snowflakes right on to the wool-so glad that did not shadow or smear.
The Baltimore oriole birds arrived end of the month, I ended up using 3 very large bags of oranges for them. I grabbed a piece of re claimed cotton fabric (when I was quilting more I liked using cotton clothing from the resale shops instead of buying expensive quilt fabrics) that had allot of mixed colors in it and I then went over it with gel pens
The April full moon was the pink moon or fish moon, we had a Friday the 13th so added this black cat glass bead too. We had several ducks fly into the ponds and visit for a while. The large blue bead is a handmade blown glass bead and I needle felted silk noil for more water.
April brings lots of song birds and more owls-I love all of their songs. The brown fabric with the stamping was also from my crazy quilt collection of fabrics
In April I did many 3 mile walks-this month I am still having difficulty walking do to swollen ankles-sigh. I decided to add some glass beads and those leaf beads to make a path. More needle felting too. The brown is Navajo Churro wool and the greens are silk noil and also a synthetic fiber that came in as packing material in a box my husband got in the mail The Canada geese pair were still here and sitting eggs in April. I stamped onto a piece of my corn husk papers-I have one sheet left now
Our Wisconsin friends came for a visit, and the hummingbirds arrived Our rabbit family is still around-they are cute to watch scampering around.
After I took these photos I decided the ducks flew in as a pair so I am going to sew on another duck bead
And I have these nifty glass owl beads that I think I will sew one of those on too
Next up: I am anxious to try the eco printing on papers. My new iron water will not be ready for about 6 weeks so I am thinking of making up a solution of alum for the fixative-mordant. Stay tuned-we have a busy week ahead plus I need to check if I have something I can use for a steamer in my craft pots.
I had not made us homemade pizzas in some time. Sunday I decided to make Hubs a "real"pizza so he would not have to put up with my gluten free crust and I made me a pizza with a new mix by Bob's Red Mill. Their original version of this mix from years ago I was baking with as a flour but did not make a nice pizza crust. Their new version is awesome-so I am happy I found another good one.
Aldi stores have a very good line for gluten free and they had a really good gf pizza crust mix that everyone liked-but one day they decided to change it without saying so and it was terrible. So am happy this new one is a good one.
I am a from scratch cook-baker always but this gf baking is never always good or even edible from scratch so I have resigned the fact to use some mixes.
Wheat crust pizza I baked his in a 15" cast iron skillet
Gluten free version I baked on a stone
While going through buckets I found one at the bottom of the stack with gluten free beers. I rarely drink beer never did-most have gluten-but I found one made with sorghum that is like a dark European beer-love it. My Wisconsin friends bring it down for me
Perfect to go with my pizza
In the beginning of the week when we still had a hot day I decided on a root beer float for a treat I used frozen vanilla yogurt (No vodka added this time)
I found a package of these stainless straws Some were bent like this one some not, some shorter and even came with a brush for cleaning I love these
Happy T Stands for Tuesday everyone, I always enjoy your visits
Kathy i'll be back to visit more but Where oh where did you find Diet Mug Rootbeer?? Its one of my favs... Walmart has stopped carrying it here and thats usually where i grocery shop... But i would go elsewhere to get it... :) Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteLove your journal page, so many meaningful details. And that pizza looks sooooo good and I am hungry....I need to get my post ready now. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThank you Valerie-these pizzas turned out really delicious-I froze most of it so we would have pizza later on
Delete"Cooler" here means it'll only get up to 95 on Wednesday lol We've had a couple of thunderstorms, and I agree that rain is much better than my watering.
ReplyDeleteThe cast iron skillet pizza looks delicious. I've never seen one made in a skillet. I don't use straws, but my younger son has switched to a non-plastic alternative. I was shocked when I first heard what a problem plastic straws were for the environment.
Happy T Tuesday :)
Oh how I loved our rainy day yesterday! We are so thankful! I love that you are recording your days on a journal page. What fun it will be to turn through the pages when the journal is complete. Now, I am hungry for pizza!
ReplyDeleteGood morning, rainy days are awesome aren't they I just heard we getting more rain tonight and tomorrow but temps will stay hot-I will take any rain we can get lol
Deletethis is my first ever journal-the pages are all wool
thank you for visiting
Your fabric journal page looks fantastic Kathy, I love the details you added, those bird charms/buttons? look real cute.
ReplyDeleteBoth the pizzas you made look delicious.
We are having a heat wave in the UK and I am not used to heat all day. i hope all goes well when you visit the doctor tomorrow.
Happy T day Wishes
Yvonne xx
thank you Yvonne. yes some glass beads, charms, buttons too
DeleteStay cool Happy T Day
I am really enjoying your fabric journal. It's darling, and the details are fun to read about, too. What a busy month April was for you. I am so glad you shared this page. Bleubeard LOVES the black cat, too.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen any GF items at my Aldi, but I have noticed the three we have in Wichita all seem to carry a few things that are different. For example, the one in my neighborhood has a "decent" sized Asian and Hispanic population, so they cater to both these nationalities. The one I went to when mine was being remodeled didn't carry half the Hispanic and none of the Asian products my store does. So GF may not be on this store's radar. I DO like the looks of your pizzas, though.
GF BEER? Who knew? Certainly not me. You have priceless friends for bringing it to you. And I would LOVE to have some of that root beer float. It looks yummy. In fact, I have a few cans of A & W root beer, and I have ice cream. HMMM. I may have to join you as we both celebrate T time later today. Thanks for sharing these wonderful projects, too.
Your fabric journal page looks so beautiful with all those details - fantastic! Your Wheat crust pizza looks more than yummie ! Happy T Day, hugs, Susi
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Susi, Happy T Day-hugs
DeleteGlad to hear your garden is doing better. Too bad about the tomato plant. Himself lost the cucumber plant to something. Maybe cutworm. He planted another and it seems to be ok. The critter beads and buttons in your book are so cute. Of course, my favorite is the black cat. Your pizzas look amazing. I don't care for beer so I'll have your root beer float. Thank you, very much. Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteIn spite of the weather and not feeling 100% you accomplished a lot for one month! Like others, I noticed how meaningful each addition is for you. The pizza looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWonderful fabric journal pages. Nice to have so much in nature to inspire us in so many ways! I have yet to make pizza in the CI skillet but it is on my list:):) Your rootbeer drink reminded me of how much I loved rootbeer popsicles as a kid- and they were only 5 cents a piece! Happy T day!
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, I remember root beer popsicles too-I love root beer in the summer time.
Deletecast iron makes an awesome pizza crust
Happy T Day
Your fabric journal is very unique with the personalized events and writing. What a creative way to document your special events. I would think this would be so fun to go back and look on after many years. It is fun to remember things that we would otherwise forget.
ReplyDeleteYour pizza's look yummy. I am sure your hubby appreciates you taking the time to make him a real pizza even though you have to make two different kinds of crust.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
Your April journal is really delightful. You will get so much pleasure looking back at that and remembering all the things you did.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed with those pizzas. I bet hubby was pleased!
Looking at your GF malt beer is making me thirsty. I love malt beer. As for the root beer, I have not heard of that one. Will google it. It says: no caffeine. I have never heard of caffeine in beer!
Have a good week,
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
thank you Lisca root beer is more like a soda pop now and not a beer most soda pops here in the states are high in caffeine, sugar, and salt too in some of them, and most all of the soda pops here high in caffeine I have always enjoyed root beer floats, or just a cold root beer in the summer time so I was happy to find thin brand-no caffeine, no sugar, and low in salt.
ReplyDeleteyes this brand of gf beer is really delicious
and thanks about my journal-this is my first ever journal so am enjoying it Happy T Day
Love everything you've done on the fabric journal and that pizza looks so good!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy we have had all of this rain and cooler weather but not the weeds are starting to get away from me. I spent the day yesterday weeding the veggie garden and replanting the green beans . Hungry rabbits this year. I fenced in the raised bed this time. :)
Today I will try to get the flower beds weeded before the heat hits again.
Happy T Day
Carol
I bet your veggies and plants enjoyed the rain! Wow, such beautiful fabric pages 😀. You created so much wonderful detail and I enjoyed hearing the stories behind each piece - perfect! Your pizza looks awesome, I'd love to try a slice or maybe two, three ...lol 😉. Then there's your root beer float, it looks so refereshing and very cooling too, yum! Happy T Day! J 😊 x
ReplyDeleteHi Jo, yes we have been enjoying this wonderful rain-and more today too-we are getting spoiled now for this time of year. The pizzas were perfect and I think they tasted so good since I made any for quite awhile now
Deleteso much fun here! your pizza made me hungry, and so did the root beer float. Sorry to hear that your asthma is worse, it seems to be a significant problem in high humidity. Adore your fabric journal pages! Each detail holds well-thought-out significance and you will certainly enjoy it for years to come. Loved your walking figure and the stamped geese! oh, and the beads, and well everything really! happy T/root beer day!
ReplyDeleteRain, glorious rain! I'm so glad you finally got some, Kathy, and that your garden is perking up.
ReplyDeleteI hope the doctor can help you. It's such a shame you had to wait and suffer all this time.
I've been walking quite a bit more (than usual) too. "No time" has long been my excuse. So I'm letting my Fitbit nudge me at 10 minutes before each hour if I haven't walked at least 250 steps in the hour.
We never had success with home made pizza - and believe me we tried! It's hubby's favorite food ;-) Yours look scrumptious.
Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
Hello Eileen, we are so thankful for the much needed rain and more today as well-which also brings cooler temps for us-out of the 90s for a bit. I always have a hard time sticking with walking, I did so well before it got hot-and here in the woods too many ticks and chiggers now too-I have started walking in the house again to myself walking.
DeleteThe recipe I use for the crust I have used for over 30 years I will post the recipe soon Happy T Day hugs
Your fabric journal is turning out amazing Kathy! It will be something wonderful to look back on! I've already commented on your MUG rootbeer... and now that pizza with all the drippy cheese is something i may beg hubby to bring home tonight!! MMmmmmm Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteI love that you are always making and doing. Your fabric journal is really coming along and definitely takes a lot of time but is a nice reminder of what happens each month. I need to start making some homemade (vegan) pizza. We used to order all the time when the kids were at home, but now never have it. Hard to walk here now that the weather is so hot but I try to get out when I can.
ReplyDeleteI love your journal page Kathy. You added some nice images. ANd good for you to get caught up on these projects. I have a list for this summer but lets see how much I actually accomplish. Your pizza looks so good. You have me drooling frequently for sure. happy T day. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThanks much Erika, Happy T Day hugs
DeleteWhat a beautiful page, Kathy! And I love the duck beads!
ReplyDeleteThe pizza looks delicious! Kisses, my friend.

and you made my mouth watering! i´m hungry now:)
have a great week!
I adore your fabric page Kathy! So cool and interesting to study!
ReplyDeleteHappy week,
Alison xx
Your fabric journal is looking amazing! All those memories are captured so beautifully! I totally understand your feelings about not always cooking from scratch but sometimes if an easy option comes out good it's worth it! I have found that some things that I like have so many ingredients that some of them go off before they get used up so I take the easy option! Belated Happy T day! Chrisx
