Good morning Friday,
Finally a cool down has arrived-so hoping that we do not go back to those high temperatures with humidity again this year. Like many of you, with no rain everything is burning up. Thankful my grass had gotten cut-now it is all brown-fine with me haha.
I appreciate the cool down but we really need a good rain.
This weekend is the big speedboat races here on the lake-this is an annual event that raises lots and lots of money for local charities around the lake. The event has many volunteers that work the event that helps their charity. We started seeing the boats on the lake on Wednesday, yesterday there were lots of them. If one is in to crowds they will have a huge street party tonight that one can walk up and see the boats close up and talk to the drivers. I am just fine avoiding all those people and watching the boats fly by my window haha
Those of you that like to craft have you made an Amish toothbrush rug? I was browsing around you tube videos last night and ran into them. My Mom made a braided rug with wool strips-you need special metal things that fold the fabric-you braid them and sew them together I remember attempting to make one of these-and it is a learning curve to have the rug lay flat. These toothbrush rugs were another way to use up scrap fabrics in your stash to make a rug.
I don't need another project right now-but I did find handmade needles made by a craftsman here in the Ozarks Missouri and was selling instructions reasonable as well. I love beautiful tools and supporting local. I chose the hard maple over the walnut which I really liked too I still have a shelf of cotton fabrics from quilting,
Rugs like these last a long time too. I still have woven rag rugs that my Mom had designed the color order and paid a weaver to make Lots of them I still have about a dozen of those-some are wool. I love them.
Here is the photo of the needle from the Ebay seller that I decided to get-the wood is lovely
I liked this you tube video very clear instructions and she has a part 2 video to this
Yes I do bounce around a lot with my crafts haha Makes life interesting for me-especially since we are in the house most all of the time now.
I will get my big Yellowstone inspired quilt finished first before going through my fabric stash. I do still have a jeans stash as well -I made several quilts from old jeans that I gifted out years ago. I also made a Huge jeans quilt with embroidery for us-very heavy but I love it.
Once we are into the winter months I will get back to my slow stitch bags as well-I would like to get those made and sent out this year or early next year My muse for those has left for a bit.
Happy Friday and weekend
I looked for a photo of Snoopy boating and found this one
My maternal gramma had a friend who braided rugs for her. I remember having to sort fabric pieces by color, then my gramma would take certain colors and then take them to her to make rugs. In turn my gramma would sew clothes for her as my gramma was a seamstress. No monies were exchanged. Just friends helping each other out. Have fun watching the boat race. Am sure it will be a big hit as usual. Janice
ReplyDeleteThat's special-my Mom did things like that too hugs Happy Friday
DeleteI haven't heard of toothbrush rugs . I'm going to go look that up. But I love a nice braided rug, but I've never tried to make one. It's interesting how you said there's a learning curve to get them to lay flat. That makes sense. I hope you get some rain soon, and send it my way if you do get any. WE're so dry also. Have a great weekend. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteGood morning Erika, I am so hoping for rain too-but none in the forecast so far. When I tried to make a braded rug I think I was pulling the stitches to tight-that is done by hand-needle and thread. the Amish toothbrush rugs are intriguing to me and I still have lots of fabrics here, so I think that will be a fun project
DeleteHappy weekend hugs
I've been saying to myself... i need to try to make a round rug or buy one.. .All i need is another project... I'm rather eclectic with my crafts like you.. lol My 'library ' shelves are in my craftroom... Not necessarily ideal but the way the layout of the house worked out.. I have taken some of the GrandLittles books that are here and put them on a bottom shelf.. great little area in front of that for a round rug for them to lay on and read a book... Would love to make one but they might turn 18 before i get it finished... I'm getting a few days off from the mowing... grass has really slowed down in the heat but we did manage to grab a quick shower which unfortunately it will make it grow.. Showing a big cool down for next week with some rain... I guess we'll see how it plays out..
ReplyDeleteLiving close to the lake in Arkansas the way we did the boats drove us nuts all Summer long... It was a little better in Fall and Winter.. You handle it much better than i... Take care Kathy! I'm going to sweep and clean off my front porch today and spray for bugs .. Hubs hurt his back at golf yesterday so he' holed up watching the FedEX cup.. We always root for Rory McIlroy...lol Hugs! deb
We have a big cool down too next week but still need rain-but then like you mentioned the grass will grow-ugh- I think this method of rug making would go well-I am anxious to try this out. the nice thing is all these boats will be gone after Labor Day til next year Memorial Day except for quiet fisherman-this event is fun to see the boats-all sizes and lots of different colors too. So sorry your husband got hurt golfing-ugh no fun at all Happy weekend-hugs
DeleteHave a good day! -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletethanks and you as well
DeleteEnjoy the boats speeding by. I have heard of the toothbrush rugs but since I hook rugs I never looked into it. I need to get another project going I have been painting daily.
ReplyDeleteCool and lovely here for the past few days. looks like we will stay that way for a bit.
Cathy
Awesome that you have been doing a lot of painting-I haven't gotten back into that again and I really want to. we will really cool down next week for a few days-70's loving that but still no ran here-happy weekend
DeleteThe weather has cooled down here as well from the 90's to the mid 70's. Even into the 40's at night! The boat races sound interesting and annoying all at the same time.
ReplyDeleteGood morning wow that is a huge temperature drop-we will be very cool next week looking forward to it-lows in the 60's I watch the race on you tube-or have it on in the background-they have an expert about boats and motors on so find in interesting and perfect temperatures for the lake this weekend-in the 80's

DeleteHope the boats will not be too noisy, Kathy, and also that you get a cooldown. Here the weather is a pleasant mid 80s and luckily we missed the 90s temps when we were in Alaska. I had not heard of a toothbrish rug before reading your post and sure I will not be needing one, but still interesting to learn about.
ReplyDeleteThis boat race is not near us but I have it on the tv to watch it-and coming up is the air show pretty soon. perfect weather for all those out on the lake too-mid 80's next week 70's-awesome. They moved this to better a location on Lake in the Ozarks as this event keeps growing every year. This is near Osage Beach Mo and near lake in the ozarks state park as well
DeleteI love crafts-so I want to make one of these rugs-probably an oval one-I will go through my cotton fabric stash and see what I have. Happy new week ahead
I am glad you are getting a cool 😎 down. Love ❤️ Snoopy. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteMe too-hugs
DeleteI think we are all enjoying the reprieve from the extreme heat. The boat show sounds like fun to see all the boats riding by. I admire that you enjoy crafts and now there are so many places on the Internet to get guidance for projects. Personally, I don't have the patience and am not detail oriented, but I do enjoy cooking. Have a great week Kathy.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Yes we all really needed this cool down-and it was perfect timing here for the big boat shootout. Yes the internet is so helpful learning new things-I find a lot of information on You Tube. I have always enjoyed being in the kitchen too-have always cooked from scratch-was brought up a a farm cook-smiles Happy new week
