Happy Mother's Day & Weekend

   Good Moring Friday

Have any of you made a white sauce for pizza instead of the tomato based sauce?  I have a taste for homemade pizza but I need to stick to my new diet which includes no tomato foods.
I looked around on the internet and found one that looked pretty good but thought I would ask you all if you ever made this?

We had our workers for a couple days this week so I went into Wal Mart yesterday early to buy large bags of soil for the ground and to fill up my big tubs.  There is no way I could get those down the hill and steps this year-and they picked up two bags each and carried them down-Wow I was amazed by that. They were heavier too I think with all the rain we have had.  I got lucky too as they had what I needed on sale.  Bought 3 cubic feet bags for the tubs and 6 of the 2 cu feet bags of garden soil  The check out person said when I bought it that the soil was selling like hot cakes this week haha

I am still recovering from an aching back ugh-but I don't need to pick these up-just shovel right our of the bags. I went to work this week digging out weeds to the left of the steps, I want to finish that today and hopefully work with this soil today. After this hope to tackle that mint and cut grass-again-over the weekend.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you mothers

  1. Yep we've had rain so our yard chores are multiplying... uuughh... I've had a nice week off though.. with a trip to Wimberley and quite a bit of rain... i haven't been able to get out there and mow.. but today promises to be nice and sunny... I'm in danger of falling behind the grass is getting so long..lol Eldest Grandlittle is coming over for a play day with Grandma after school... so nice she rides the bus right to the house... Wow so nice you had those helpers... reminds me i need some more soil too... I'm going to try planting Zinnias for the first time... have you ever? Hubby likes the Philly Steak and Cheese pizza... i think that comes with white sauce but no i've never made it... I made Chicken Pie with Savory crust the other day.. haven't made it in years.. Came out so so... I think when you haven't made something in a while you forget the little things you do when you make it that may not necessairly be on the recipe.. I'm bad about not writing changes down on the recipe... uuugh.. Anyway used leftover chicken from the freezer instead of my usual marinated , baked chicken breasts ... just didn't have the same flavor.... I'll tell you though the crust on that chicken pie is really a bread and its delish! Hugs! deb

    1. Good morning, it's amazing how the yard can get away from us-I was almost caught up-then loads of rain-now major back issues-ugh and what I cut already needs cut again. it's way too expensive to hire someone to cut too. ugh
that's perfect that your granddaughter can ride the bus to your home.
Your chicken pie sounds good I don't think I have ever made one of those. when I was a kid my Mom would buy a dozen when on sale they were super cheap. she made most everything from scratch but she liked buying those for us kids.
I try to make notes on recipes it does help. good time to check on the soil as wal mart here had big mark down on it. around this time of year before mothers day they try to sell off a lot. so perfect time.
It is slowly warming up and there is sun now where I want to work so am headed out soon.
      take care hugs

  5. Glad you had help. Gardening is hard work but so rewarding.
Yes I have made a white sauce really an alfredo sauce. It is very good. I know tomatoes can be acidy but oh I love them.

  7. I love pizza with white sauce (and some that had just a garlic rub on the dough before other toppings were put on). Both options were great.

  8. Happy Mother's Day to a fellow non-human "mother." I was also going to suggest alfredo sauce, which I prefer over tomato. I hope you like cheese, because it consists of butter, heavy cream, and Parmesan cheese. No skimping using margarine or milk, either.

    1. Hi Elizabeth, thanks for stopping by. alfredo sauce sounds like a good idea too thanks. I think I will make a sauce from scratch first and see how it turns out. I have been looking at different recipes

  9. Sounds like you've been getting a lot of yard work done. It's exhausting, isn't it? And I usually don't use white sauce on pizza when I make a white pizza. I just put the cheese and the toppings right on the base. How does it taste with white sauce? I'm curious. Have a wonderful weekend Kathy. hugs-Erika

  12. While I have ordered a white pizza at a pizzeria, we have only made ones using tomato sauce at home. I'm not even sure the ordered pizza had any "sauce" just extra cheeses like mozzarella and Ricotta.

    1. Good afternoon, I found a healthier version of a white sauce recipe for pizza. I will post about it when I make it here are the ingredients White Pizza Sauce:
      2 tbsps (28 g) butter
1 tbsp minced garlic (about 4 cloves)
      2 tbsps (1 g) cornstarch
1 cup (250 ml) half and half
1/2 cup (29 g) freshly grated Parmesan cheese
      2 tsps Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp finely ground sea salt
      1/2 tsp ground black pepper
      1/4 tsp dried oregano leaves
      1/4 tsp onion powder

    2. I will need to eliminate the black pepper-sadly- and butter will use olive oil instead I am not supposed to have garlic either so will us a little ground garlic powder instead I never cared much for garlic anyways
