T Stands for Tuesday & Vision and Fabric Art Book

I think this is our last Tuesday for January-kinda glad to be getting towards the end of January as that brings us closer to Spring.
Tuesdays is where we share a drink related post (show a photo of your beverage) and visit friends at the T Party. You are most welcome to join us with our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth-find link in my right hand column.

It has been an interesting week-vision wise. Last Thursday I had my right eye done for cataract surgery.
It went well, our doctor tells us every person is different and even every eye is different. My husband could see clearly same day after surgery-I did not have mostly clear vision til Sunday. and since I have been wearing a strong prescription for eye glasses for years now-it was difficult at first since my left eye couldn't see well with no glasses and the right eye was getting clearer-but in the end will need close up glasses for sure.
I do not do well at all with anesthesia and even though this was suppose to be a small amount I said please very little. When I explained what happens when I have it- they let me opt out entirely which I was happy about. Definately an experience to Not move a muscle, and not to "freak" out. lol   I did good though.
This week Thursday I will get my second eye done. I think the hardest thing for me right now is not being able to read in the evenings for a long period of time-sometimes I will read for 4 to 6 hours or more.
But all is good, and I am excited at the prospect of no longer wearing glasses all the time-which will be an adjustment I think since I have worn them since around 6 or 7 years of age.

Since I couldn't read I worked on my second fabric art journal book. I finished the cover and started working on July. I may go back and add some more stitches on the cover it seems to still need a little something more.

all photos will enlarge to full size just click on them

This little snowman was from a piece of Christmas candy that I picked up at our Aldi store. There were santas and snowmen. Inside was chocolate-yum.
I tried saving a few of these which was difficult as the foil tore apart very easily.
In my stash I still have different colors of tulle and misty fuse. I layered a piece of cotton fabric-a piece of misty fuse-then the foil-then the misty fuse and on top the tulle-I ironed over it with a piece of freezer paper on top (the shiny side was folded together)-the misty fuse melts away and the tulle seals the foil inside.

I had one piece left of that little vintage bead (I had three of these on the cover of the first book), the little frog was the last of a larger piece that I had rust dyed, and also in my bag of fabric scraps etc I found several quilt blocks that I inherited from my Mom's sewing room.  i plan to use several of those in this book.

I had picked up these little sheep buttons-I decided to use it since I am using allot of wool in my books

Close up the little frog that was rust dyed

These next pieces were my Mom's. She loved making star quilt blocks-I may make this one into a pocket at the end of this book I am using her cat for Friday the 13th on my July page

July page so far
July is the full buck moon    I did allot of eco dyeing in July and August so am going to sew this one into my book

This morning early (Monday) I went in for the second check up for my eye and I also needed to get a few groceries to get us through the super cold weather coming in, and Hubs needed some things for the lake house projects. So I grabbed my go to small hot thermos added hot water and a green tea bag for the road trip.

This little thermos I had picked up at a marked down price and it is just the best ever-stays super hot for around 10 or 12 hours.

In the mornings I have started making me a hot cereal (my carbs for the day) and grabbing one of these little drinks-found at Aldi-this is really good tasting

This is probably meant for kids but it is just the right size.

Now is the time of year when sometimes allot of deer show up at one time. I took this yesterday after we warmed up enough to melt off all the snow and leave wet and mud everywhere. This is the muddiest this area has ever been. I stopped putting the cracked corn on and around the stump while this is so soft.

Not the best photos but I was trying to get as many deer in the photos as I could-there were around 8 or 9 deer.

Those of you getting or already have gotten the newest winter blast-stay safe and warm out there

Happy T everyone.

  1. Glad your eye Op went well. They don't give anaesthetic for the cataract operations here at all. Your fabric album is wonderful. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

    1. Hi Valerie, this doctor use a little to "take the edge off" which most used but I was happy I didn't have to use it for sure.I can't even take an adult asprin most days without it being too strong.
      Happy T Hugs

  2. I don't know if there's been stitching on pages like this and fabric used this way all along on blogs I read or maybe I'm just now noticing, but I'm impressed with how even the stitching is. And around the edges, I'm remembering that as being a blanket stitch, and it makes such a nice edge! I love that you have pieces from your mother. So sweet :)

So many deer!!! Happy T Day :)

    1. Yes this is a blanket stitch-I really like-I forgot to leave one of my embroidery books behind to use another stitch on the page. I had forgotten that I had so many of my Mom's quilt blocks-all different sizes too.
the deer for sure are so fun-hugs Happy T

    2. I meant to add-I was admiring everyone's journals here in the T group but I do not do allot with the paper medium or paint, but I work with fiber so I just decided to make my first yearly journal with wool fabric and then just sew on to it-it has been allot of fun for me

    3. I love seeing the fabric pieces. I used to do a bit of embroidery in my teens, and I'd love to see what I remember of that and use it on ATCs. Fabric ATCs sound like fun :)

    4. Actually a year or so after we first retired back in the fall of '03 I had gotten into a few swaps with atc's and postcards-that's how I learned about the mistyfuse-you can fuse just about anything together especially fabrics and papers together-it is rather expensive but when I looked for a link more choices for buying-it is a nice way to seal fabrics like for something you want to frame

    5. I'm googling mistyfuse lol Who knew! Thank you. I can see I need to go to a fabric store and familiarize myself with what's out there these days. And, of course, check out those remnant bins ;)

    6. I glad to see that the mistyfuse was more available now so perhaps less expensive-last time I bought a yard or two of it. do you have resale shops or consignment shops near you? I buy fabrics for my crafts and quilting also from recycled clothes-I look for 100% wool, linen, silk, wool and then take it all apart. you get allot of cotton from an xxx large mens shirt with sleaves.

    7. Yes, we have resale shops. Several, as a matter of fact. I also haven't fully Marie Kondo-ed my closet lol, so I might find some joy in re-purposing. I need to pick up some embroidery thread, I think, as I've found regular sewing thread is fine for attaching things but not great if I want the stitches to pop. So much fun :) I'm really enjoying this :)

    8. I really enjoy small hand sewing projects-there is a quilt I have been wanting to make-it is folk art inspired by Barbara Brackamn (quilt historian) that is applique-thinking of using wool on top of the cotton for the appliques and use the blanket stitch around them.
I have picked up allot of embroidery threads at resale shops-even lovely wool threads--Have fun!!

  3. Glad your surgery went well. Pretty blog background Enjoyed the peek at your wool book. I like the stars and reindeer and especially love the black cat. Cute lambie button, too. I've only seen that many deer at once at a deer park at a nearby zoo. Stay warm.

  4. It’s so good you can now see well enough to work on your new journal page. I like your creative composition of the elements on the page! Good that you will have the other eye done soon, then you will be able to start counting twigs on branches and noticing how vivid colors are everywhere!

    1. thanks so much Barbara since I could not read I had to do something lol I am learning to overlap the elements more

I loved seeing the part 2 stage of your fabric journal pages for the year, you are adding wonderful detail pieces as well.
The wild deer looked so comfortable grazing beside your home, they obviously know that you leave good food out for them.
Happy T day wishes Kathy and I hope you have a good week.

  7. My hubby had one cataract done at a time and it was very rough for him also, Kathy. I know it's a safety measure, but in the interim your brain goes crazy trying to figure out how to focus. My sympathies. God luck Thursday.

Very pretty pieces (and memories) for your new fabric art journal.

Love your deer photos - even if you couldn't capture them all at once. They're such pretty animals.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

  8. Great "eye" news!!! It will seem strange, at first, not looking for your glasses first thing in the morning........but more frustrating always looking for your reading glasses later in the day LOL! I have SO MANY reading glasses all over the house, and one pair in my purse!!
Your fabric journal is lovely, and I enjoyed the photos of the deer in your yard.

  10. Cataract surgery is so routine anymore, and despite the inconvenience for a bit , you will see so much better. Love how you piece your fabric journal pieces together, always with detail and a story. How wonderful to see all those deer. Happy T day!

    1. Hi Linda, yes this is quite the norm now for us seniors with the cataract surgeries-but neither of us were around others that had this done-so was all very new to us-and a bit scary with the first eye for sure-now I will know what to expect for the second one.
thanks about my journal-this was totally new to me to make a journal and I have enjoyed the process very much. Happy T

  11. Glad your surgery went well. It would be very hard to get used to not wearing glasses...I have since age 8. My family told me that if I ever get lasik or cataract surgery I'd need to wear fake glasses. HA!
Love what you are doing with your fabric journal.
    Happy T day!

    1. Ha Ha that is funny about the fake glasses-and you know that actually popped into mind especially if i will need intermediate and close up glasses-why not just get plain glass on top and the prescriptions on the bottom-I have worn the no line glasses for year now-and will take some getting used to-not wearing glasses after all this time.
I have really enjoyed this journal-thank you Happy T

  15. I'm so glad your first eye surgery went well. It will be ever so strange not wearing glasses all the time. I have been wearing glasses all my life too (apart for a period of ten years when I wore contact lenses).
Your fabric book is coming on beautifully. I love all the 'bits' that are significant for you that particular month. My favorite is the frog.
Wow! What a lot of deer! I bet you will miss seeing those after you move.
    Have a good week,

  18. I have now learnt that one cannot do comments on an ipad, so I apologise for all those occasions that I appear not to have commented (I always do) and from now on I will use my desk top computer even if it means being a day late as we are always away on Tuesdays.

  20. Great fabric work. You do amazing work! I just wanted to say about the cataract surgery; for me it was great! I didn't really have to use glasses after words. In fact, the doctor just said get some #2 readers at the Dollar Tree, which I did. However, more than a year after I did get a new prescription, but still just use for reading books. I can now read my laptop without glasses. A person right in front of me was blurry before the surgery! They gave me a special lens for my left eye (extra cost )which had a stigmatism. I didn't even know they could fix a stigmatism! That has made all the difference for me. It is my best eye, now! I hope you second eye surgery goes well.
    Happy T Day!

    1. thanks for sharing-I had thought about getting the more expensive lenses but they are 2000.00 for each eye and insurance will not help pay for those-hoping all I need are the readers for reading. also I have always had photogrey lenses-that turn into sunglasses once in bright light-I will need to pick up a good pair pf those too.
      Happy T hugs

  21. My SIL had her second eye done last week - she had the first cataract removed 2017 - she says that this time she could see straight away and she doesn't have so many eye drops to put in this time!! I hope you make a quick recovery from both ops and can soon enjoy life without specs! Your fabric journal is awesome! I do get excited about seeing 'your' deer! Happy T day! Chris xx

Glad the eye is healing up fast. Wait till you get the other one done, you will be so happy.
I noticed that you have a piece of nice purple pattered cloth. I have a table runner that looks almost exactly like that. I very rarely use it and would love to send it to you if you want it. Let me know. Its now thursday and I hope it has stayed nice and you haven't gotten his with the big snow, cold.
