T Stands for Tuesday & a Cave and a Celebration (lots of photos)

Happy Tuesday Everyone,
It's T Time again this Tuesday.
In this blogging event we join our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth for T. We share a drink related post with friends.
You are Most welcome to join us, just show a photo of your beverage. Link in my right hand column.

How has your weather been?  We are still having summer with hot and humidity, but over the weekend we have gotten allot of rain-we needed it but now Mother Nature can turn it off any time now ha ha. I have been thinking of our hostess and wondering if she got lots of rain as Kansas was to get quite a bit.

Over the weekend I pulled all the hummingbird feeders, bleached and cleaned them and put them away for next year. I hadn't seen a hummer for a week so decided to take them down. They were here longer than most years. Probably due to the much warmer weather

Friday my husband's sister and her daughter from Chicago area drove down from St Louis Missouri area for the day. She chose St Louis as her base with a friend for several days and then drove to different places from there.
I gave her choices of the Wonders of Wildlife or closer to where I live the Bridal Cave. She chose the cave and we had allot of fun.
I had toured this about 5 years ago with friends that visited us from Pennsylvania but this is always fun to tour again.
But wow what a difference 5 years makes lol  I didn't feel that steady on my knees going through narrow and hilly paths. I was grabbing on to my sister in law's hand during all the tough spots. I totally forgot to grab my walking stick. One can Not touch the sides of the cave or we will destroy the growth so it was a bit scarey for me -did not want to fall and I didn't.
We were almost in the 90s Friday so the cave was the perfect choice.

note all photos will enlarge for better viewing just click on them

The next two views are the walk to the entrance to the cave. and the second photo is over looking a part of the Lake of the Ozarks
We had a much more informed guide this time which was nice. I learned that in the beginning the only entrance to this cave was by boat-you would dock at the entrance and then climb into the cave.
This is now a huge tourist attraction for the area, open year round and they take advantage of the holidays. There are many weddings here
For more information here is the link

"Bridal Cave is a cave located near Camdenton, Missouri, in Lake of the Ozarks. It takes its name from the Osage Native American legend of Conwee, the son of an Osage chief who desired to marry the daughter of the chief of the opposing tribe. He is said to have kidnapped her for this reason"

I sold another book on ebay, listed more items, and have more to list this coming week.

Thursday we visited the Lake House again that I shared last week.
I really love everything about this house. 200 feet of lake front is unheard of for most of the lake homes, very deep water, all natural shale rock sea wall.
Has an upgraded dock and lifts for two boats. There are 4 extra rooms besides the kitchen (small), bathroom, and very long living space that over looks the water-all glass. I was a bit leary of the basement but the second visit I felt better about it. We discovered the floor area where I want to add a wall of shelving and my "messy craft area" is the shale rock-that's why it is uneven. Very clean and no mold. The steps mostly need more lighting and I will be good with it.  There is also a bathroom in this space and level out to the backyard-so that's nice.
I also like the area that this home is located in-much more so than many others we had seen.
It is just a couple miles off the main highway to get there. The driveway to the home is not extreme down hill like most are.  Although there are several steps down to get into the front door.
Newer part of the home (this was a small lake cabin originally) has oak floors or tile, the older area is carpeted over concrete.
Grocery shopping is less than half an hour in both directions. Instead of seeing health specialists in Springfield Mo we will look for them in Jefferson City Mo. which is an hour away. (Springfield would be 2 hours plus away at that location)
Soooooo after weighing everything we called up our realtor and we put a bid in yesterday afternoon.

Anddddd we got the call today (Sunday) that we got the Lake House!!!!

Closing December which we were hoping to hold off till January or February-but we can manage.
So we will be scrambling to sell what we can on our own-and start boxing things up. I need to find a source of boxes-that is difficult as most stores here won't give them to you any more.

Here are a few more photos I snagged from the listing.

Most homes we had looked at don't include a garage this one has a nice double one with lots of electric  I like the metal roofs

I fell in love with the views, this space is double what is shown here-I asked the owner-and this view is of the sunsets-can't wait

So of course we are quite excited-especially that the hunt is over.
I got to talk with the owner again-she has lived here 37 years. Her husband passed 3 years ago and her children are urging her to move closer to one of them. One of her daughters is a commercial fiber artist-so we hit it off talking fiber art. For a gift I gave her one of my eco dyed papers-she was very excited about it. She even asked me to sign it.
I told her I was going to miss all of my wildlife and she says Oh No you won't we get deer that bed down in the yard at night, they get foxes, lots of birds, and hummingbirds-sounds perfect!!
Another plus for this rural home-natural gas-wow, and the co op electric co also offers very high speed internet-loving that for sure-never had it before.

So tonight I poured me a glass of celebration wine Peeking in the back is my dough boy napkin holder-yes another collection item of mine ha ha

This wine is really nice-not too dry and not too sweet either.

Happy T everyone-

  1. Now that is exciting. It will be great to live on the water I should think. I have always wanted to live on the water. The house looks quite nice. And those cave photos are amazing and I really enjoyed seeing them. It's been many years since I went into a cave, but they are really fascinating. Congrats on the good news and happy early T day. Hugs-Erika

  3. OMGosh, Kathy. You are SO lucky to get this place because it is incredible. And it has everything you are looking for and more. SO glad the basement isn't as scary as I first envisioned it. However, this means you are moving even further away from where I live. BTW, I know it sounds silly, but the rain is all around me, but here in Wichita, we got less than an inch, while cities even 20 miles away got up to 3 inches.

I don't know if I ever mentioned this before or not, but I have a friend who owns property near Branson, MO. On the property is a cave of which the Univ of MO mapped about 1/4. One weekend, some friends and I went spelunking. We took head flashlights and two guys and I explored the cave. The only way you could get to it was to jump in the water that ran mostly through the first part of the cave. There were rooms that were so high, you could barely see the tops (with your flashlight), and there were passages you had to crawl through just to pass. There was lots of bat guano and lots of bats, too. Blind bats. We also found a few frogs that were blind and totally white from not being exposed to sun. It was an amazing experience and I took a big piece of red clay from the cave, although I never made anything from it, which I should have.

It sounds like you had a rather scary experience in the Bridal Cave. I really enjoyed seeing the various photos from the cave. It was beautiful and brought back fond memories from when I lived in MO.

I think you deserve the wine after the week you had. I'm so happy for you and I'll join you with a cup of coffee. Thanks for sharing these fun photos and wonderful experience this week with us, as well as your wine with us for T this week.

  5. The cave is awesome. Reminds me of Luray Caves in VA when we stopped there on a trip with the girlies when they were little. Your lake house looks beautiful and nice that you'll still have woodland critters visiting you. Can't wait to see sunsets from the living room. You will show us some, won't you? Happy T Day

  12. WOW! How exciting!! I am so happy for you. That view looks amazing and it sounds like a dream come true. To me, this is what retirement is all about. Working hard and then enjoying the fruits of your labor. So glad that you found a place that met most if not all of your requirements. That can be harder than one thinks when house hunting. Sounds like you still have a distance to drive to get to Dr.'s but hopefully you won't have to do that often.
Do you have a Aldi or Wholesale warehouse like Bj's, Sam's or Cosco nearby? They are usually willing to give all their extra boxes away which was helpful for us when we moved.
    That cave is magical!
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  13. Well! The last part of your post almost made me forget the first part! The caves look amazing even though they caused a problem! I am pleased that you will need your Hummingbird feeders still! I am so pleased for you - this really does like like an ideal home, especially with sunset windows and deer to sleep in the garden! The garage looks as though it will be useful for temporary storage if you have difficulty making decisions about what to keep! Happy T Day! Chrisx

  14. Hi Kathy. We just got back from TX. San Antonio was hot (up to 100!) and humid. Back home now, the weather is lovely - 70s and partly cloudy. Our rainy season is about over and it was a good one. Lake Chapala, which ebbs and flows over the years, is almost full.

The cave looks amazing, but it would terrify me not having a railing or handhold of some sort.

Congratulations on the lake house. My heart just leapt for joy when you told us you got it! It sounds ideal. The minor faults you mentioned can be easily fixed. Perhaps the steps down to the house can be made into a gentle winding path, for example.

Gorgeous views of the lake both from shore and from the house. I'm so happy for you.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
