Welcome to T Stands for Tuesday with our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth, link in my sidebar, where any one is welcome to join just share a drink related photo.
Another week here with rain, wind and storms most every day. Friday into Saturday was a 24 hour event that finally brought in the sunshine around 9 am Saturday and we even warmed up to the 70's f Hoping going forward this new week we will have more dry time so I can get back to outdoor work-I am sooo far behind with everything.
If you didn't catch my previous posts I did make use of the rainy days with pantry organizing, ordering in canned foods as each time I go grocery shopping there seems to be more and more items missing. We are set pretty good now going forward with the year except for mostly fresh items now.
I did have another watercolor practice day over the weekend, and I enjoyed it. Decided on trying the dragonfly. The first try is the one to the right. I do love the leaf but the dragonfly not so much-haha. I placed the wings in the wrong spot I was happy that with the paints I have I made a turquoise-how cool is that? I am also using India black ink for the wings and highlights
So that evening I wanted to try again with the dragonfly-to the left-and was more pleased with this one. Decided to add a light wash around him and the background. This practice sheet I will not make into a card but will cut the dragonfly off on the left and include him in a slow mail letter to one of my friends.
You can see I am still drinking a coffee in my spinning mug
This past week I picked some violet flowers and dandelion flowers to dry. With all the rain the dandelion flowers are large and beautiful. After dried will use these in my melt and pour soaps.
For my drink share this week, I made us a mango margarita. We love these so I had bought a large mango last trip to the grocery store and I had picked up two of these cups since they are insulated, made in the USA, and has the name of the lake we live on
My vita mix filled to the top will make 4 of these, so we each had a glass, and saved the rest for the next evening. Tastes like summertime
Sunday morning very early I spotted two bright planets looking over the lake-I thought they were planets as one for sure was bigger than a star. So I asked on facebook if anyone knew what would be up in the sky? and one of my friends came back with lots of information for me including this screenshot from instagram-this is exactly what I saw too.
We never know what surprises await us looking out the wall of windows over the lake
Happy T and our new month of May
Kathy wow your soap sounds wonderful. Now you are inspiring me to make some too. I think your dragon fly is superb! What a wonderful subject and I like the idea of using india ink for his body to touch his wings. Turquoise turned out so pretty too. Looks like you were not the only one watching the sky and saw Jupiter and Venus. I am totally lost when it comes to the planets but I do love to look up in the dark and study the stars and pick out specific ones such as the little dipper, etc. Well take caare friend. Hugs!
ReplyDeletethanks Debbie, I ended up making two batches The recipe is just 8 ounces of melt and pour soap. I was happy with this second dragonfly, I do enjoy this book as it uses allot of inks in these different subjects.
DeleteThis was so fun to view early this morning-it was near where our sun rises.
I can't wait to see your soap with those dried flowers! Beautiful catch of two planets, Kathy. Love that you always have your days so well planned and organized. Something I really need to work on.
ReplyDeleteI don't always plan, just try to make the most of a day when possible. there are healing properties in these flowers where they will soak in warm soap and then get strained off
DeleteHow lovely to see the planets, that was a great experience! As always, you have been very busy at home, and the dried plants will be great in your soaps. Happy T Day, take care, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteGood morning, yes that was really special to see these planets. Happy T hugs
DeleteWe had some cold wind last week and your rain might be what is moving into my area today. I am hoping to get out this AM and finish a few yard projects as the next several days look wet. I am loving your dragonfly. And the margarita. My T day post has margaritas in it also. Happy May Kathy. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteWe have had so much rain here, and it continues rain most of this week again. awesome margaritas made at home are my favorite Happy May and T hugs
DeleteVery pretty green soap color! Learning how to do the watercolor renditions is going very well. I’d know that dragonfly anywhere! Well done.
ReplyDeletethank you so much-I am thinking this is friend Barbara? hugs
DeleteAaaahhh Kathy what a great eclectic post... i like those.. What a HUGE difference between your first dragonfly and the second dragonfly... You should be over the moon happy about that one.. !! Those are the two flowers i always wanted to work with when i lived in Arkansas... But i never took the time.. so regret that... as i will not find those flowers in abundance here... Here i better learn how to deal with cactus...lol Alot of wildflowers here though . I need to learn about them more.. Your soap looks AMAZING,... Ofcourse making soaps and candles are on my to do list too... I will have a 'to do' list until the day i die i'm sure...lol Happy T day! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteGood morning Deb, thanks so much yes I am very happy with my second dragonfly, I may just need to paint another soon. oh I would miss not having the wild violets and dandelions around-was so happy to see them here at the lake house.
Deletewildflowers are awesome that would be good to know what you have there.
I am very pleased with this soap recipe-I have always had very results with this author's recipes-I bought her melt and pour soap book and learned so much in there on how to infuse herbal properties into the soap and she gives all sorts of information on natural colors too.
I agree I keep adding to my to learn list too haha Happy T
That soap is beautiful and SO much easier than what I make using lye. I think it is really lovely and I like the shape you shared, too. I like how you are saving the dandelion flowers.
ReplyDeleteYour dragonfly is beautiful and extremely well done. I'm completely impressed.
What a lovely Lake of the Ozarks mug. A mango margarita sounds delicious. I bet it tasted good, too. Thanks for sharing it with us for T this Tuesday as well as your watercolor drawing, too.
Hi Elizabeth, yes melt and pour way easier and I can do it in the kitchen unlike lye-which I am leery of as I am an "accident waiting to happen" haha
DeleteI am very happy with my dragonfly too-thanks I need to paint another one to see if I can paint one as nice.
I love these insulated mugs too-Happy T
I really really like your soap - I read your other post about how you made it, and those mo;ds are farling and fit the color of the soap. How wonderful that you make them yourself - and so many other things. I also notice that the grocery store is having less and less of the items we really like. Bummer. But I think things could be worse, I'm not complaining. We're not going hungry after all.
ReplyDeletethank you I really like this soap and it was fun to make, I have a collection of many different molds as I used to make soap to sell now I just make soap for myself or make soap for gifts.
Deleteliving rural I have always stocked up on items especially during the winter months and when I use to do allot of preserving of foods we always had the pantry full of different items. I was pleased for my finds on wal mart online opposed to the small local wal mart store closest to me so this worked out good for me with free shipping
Oh what wonderful soaps! Another thing I used to make-lol. My faves were lavender rosemary, and orange creamsicle. I'm sure I have the recipes somewhere;). Great dragonflies! And how cool to see the special planetary occurrence in the night sky!! Too bad we had drizzly, foggy nights and mornings over the weekend in our area. Happy T day!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda making soap is fun for me too-I still make soaps for myself and for gifting. That morning early I looked out the window and saw those two planets-very cool to see. Happy T
DeleteThis post is loaded with so many things that I enjoy (and I almost missed it!). I usually keep up with what's going on in the sky, but I totally forgot about the planetary conjunction. I definitely enjoy your watercolor practices. The dragonfly is wonderful - one of your best. (I still remember your beautiful dragonfly bracelet and wonder if you ever dress up and wear it. Of course, you could wear it when you make soap and paint.
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time getting through two weeks without shopping for groceries, so stocking up is hard for us to do. I always eat up the potato chips and marshmallows in a few days. Ha! But those might not be the kind of things you have in mind to stock up on.
thank you, I didn't know about the planets til I looked out and saw them and needed to find out about them-so that was very cool to be able to see for sure. I forgot about that pretty bracelet-I need to get that out and wear it again-thanks. I am really happy with this dragonfly too
Deletewe do eat up our snacks too-but I have been stocking up on those a bit too so they will last around 3 weeks or so.
The dragonflies look wonderful. Well done! Love the idea of drying flowers and using them for soap. Also, I am so glad you got to see the conjunction. They are quite special.
ReplyDelete-Soma
thank you Soma yes that was special to see these planets.
DeleteI love your dragonflies! And the soap, Ingo will have to read your other post on this - he "owes" me!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cup, I love the color and maraitime theme. Also wow to the planets and how wonderful social media work! A happy T-Day to the lake, hugs!
thank you Iris, I was really pleased with my second dragonfly. I fell in love with these cups too-I think I got the last two. yes social media is wonderful sometimes to find out about things. my friend let me know what I was seeing in the sky-very cool Happy T
DeleteWe’ll done you for trying that dragon fly. The turquoise color is perfect.
ReplyDeleteAnd that green soap looks really nice. Please show us when you have made some. Does it smell nice?
Lovely to see Jupiter and Venus so close together. I saw photos on Facebook, but I haven’t seen it in the sky as we are now in a city ( light pollution).
Have a happy T-Day,
Lisca
good morning Lisca, there is a link in this post for a tutorial of my soap making day Yes the soap smells lovely with the lavender essential oil
Deleteseeing the planets was a total surprise for me I didn't get up early enough the next to see if they were still there.
thank you about my dragon fly I really liked the second one
Happy T hugs
Chilly and rainy off and on here. Your dragonflies are wonderful. the dried flowers will make wonderful additions in your soap. The dried flowers looks so pretty on the drying cloth. I knew about the conjunction, but it was too cloudy to see it. Maybe next time. Happy T Day
ReplyDeletethank you CJ I was lucky to be able to see the conjunction early that day as we have been cloudy and raining ever since here. Happy T
DeleteWe're having rainy weather, too, but it's sunny right now. The dragonfly is nice! Watercolors are tricky imo, and you did a great job. I'm a fan of dandelions and wild violets and love your use of them :) "Wall of windows" sounds like a wonderful environment. Happy T Tuesday
ReplyDeletethanks Yes we love our wall of windows-we are enjoying sooo many different species of birds lately first time I ever saw a grossbeak there is a pair that visit, the orioles are still here, woodpeckers-entertainment for us Happy T
DeleteWow, all those flowers will look spectacular in your soaps and I love the green one - so pretty and I bet they'll smell wonderful too 😁. Your lake cup made me smile, I'd love to join you for a mango margarita. We are just making a new beer, it's a Mango IPA which I can't wait to try. Your dragonfly looks so beautiful, that looks like a good book of instructions to follow too. So many things to see at the lake, how lovely to see those planets - amazing. Happy T Day! Hugs Jo x
ReplyDeleteGood morning Jo, the soaps turned out so pretty and they smell like lavender, a very creamy lather too as I tried a bar lst night.
DeleteOh your new IPA beer sounds delicious-how fun to make it. years and years we would make allot of different wines from what we could gather-that was fun and some of the wines were super nice.
This is a really good book for learning. I was having troubles learning how to paint so this has been fun to practice different things. and most are using a little ink too.
that was amazing to view those planets right out our windows very cool for sure hugs
I am looking forward to seeing the soap you make. I would love to try making my own but I don't want to spend money on all the supplies. That green is certainly pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love your dragonfly. It turned out beautifully, just like the picture.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
Hi Kate, there is a link in this post to see the soap tutorial-or in my sidebar too. Thank you I was happy with this dragon fly Happy T hugs
DeleteLoving your dragonflies! The soap is pretty too, when I saw the dandelions I wondered at first what you were going to do with them as I have just finished pulling all the flowers off the ones in my garden as they drive me mad and grow better than anything I plant on purpose haha. I didn't realise you were in the Ozarks, I just finished that show on Netflix and one thing about it was seeing all the beautiful lakes. Happy T Day Elle/EOTC xx
ReplyDeletethank you much I am liking this dragonfly too, I just mailed him off to a slow mail friend. the dandelion flowers are so nice mixed with calendula flowers steeped in the melt and pour soap base to release it's healing and soothing properties with all this rain they are very large this year and numerous.
DeleteI haven't seen the ozarks show as we don't have netflix but that is an actual restaurant here at lake in the ozarks and they just put it up for sale-probably hoping to get lots of money for it.
It is pretty in the ozarks lots of hills and hollers and lakes
Happy T
The dragon flies are amazing. You have so many talents. Have a great day.
ReplyDeletethank you so much Nicole
