Good Morning Thursday
I have been wanting to create a page for AJJ's theme this month -- Birds, but I haven't taken any time for myself in my craft until today for a couple weeks now. I have lots of garden work to do-mostly digging up grass is next on the list, but we are to get rain and storms again today so decided to take a day for myself
I have been playing with learning about watercolors lately, so my desk was already set up with inks and paints, and a bird I wanted to try to paint.
I cut out the bird I painted, and then looked in my paper stash for a background-wow I found the perfect piece. Then I grabbed saved magazine papers with flowers and cut some out, grabbed my dragonfly stamp, and also a wasabi tape from Japan that I hadn't used yet I also used a quote that was on a tea bag tag
I am using a German cookbook for my mixed media journal pages

I have a blog friend that always suggests less is more--so let me know if you think I got this page too busy.
(Also those of you that participate for Food Wednesdays please see my post before this one thanks)
Pretty art! I do like less but I think everyone should post whatever they want on their blogs.
ReplyDeletethank you much
DeleteWhat a fun page Kathy. Your robin looks great. I also like how you added those cut out flowers. I know what you mean about time for crafts when there are outside things to do. I really need to get back into the swing of it, and like you, we have rain today so maybe. I did take a morning trip to the local greenhouse though to look for some plants, so I guess I can't even stop gardening in the rain. Smile. Happy Thursday. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThanks Erika, a trip to the greenhouse sounds perfect for a rainy day-anxious to see what you bring home hugs
DeleteExcellent work, Kathy. The bird fits really well with those cut out flowers.
ReplyDeletethank you Angie
DeleteThe mix of paint, stamping, and cutouts is perfect. I love it! And, I personally don't think it is too busy at all.
ReplyDeletethank you Mary, I thought that background paper matched in perfectly with the little painting but then I wasn't sure if it got too busy
DeleteThe bird looks lovely and you created a wonderful piece of artwork with the background and the cutouts. Very pretty!
ReplyDelete-Soma
Thank you Soma
DeleteI love your sweet robin Kathy! It's a beautiful page!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much-hugs
DeleteOh Kathy, I love robins and your painting is so beautiful 😁. I love the collaged elements you added too - gorgeous! Happy wishes! Hugs Jo x
ReplyDeleteThank you soooo much Jo, I had fun making this one
DeleteNot too busy in my eyes - I love it! Maybe I really should try watercolors, but it looks so... complicated!
ReplyDeletethank you Iris You should try it-I am no artist, can't draw etc but so far the watercolors are fun, and I am enjoying this book too-pick up a cheap kids watercolor set first and give it a go
DeleteI think it looks wonderful. I need to branch out from my hooking I think I may go to some kind of stitching maybe I need something that is portable I can take to work with me.
ReplyDeleteCathy
thank you Cathy, there are so many ways you can choose for stitching too-you may like crewel which uses wool threads
DeletePerhaps it does need a place for the eye to rest but honestly i'd be happy letting my eye rest on that bird!!! What a wonderful job you did on that !!! I think the page is just lovely.. and in my humble opinion one of your best! You have inspired me to paint some more with watercolor so just the other day i bought myself fome new water color brushes.. And the videos i''ve been watching have inspired me to combine them with a dip pen and ink.. so... we'll seeeee... Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb, I value your critque-hugs when I finished I thought perhaps a bit busy, but it did need more so I added the cut out flowers. I can't draw or at least that's what I figured out in art classes in grade school and jr high--always felt uncomfortable in those classes, but this book as really help me to try-and to have fun.
DeleteHope you have fun too-I love using the inks-never would have known about that except for reading this book I am using for reference-hugs
Someone once told me that drawing is a skill not a talent... like back in gradeschool when you learned how to write.. you can learn to draw.. Some people have a talent that might make it easier for them but you can still learn to do it.. Drawing does not come easy to me.. I use an eraser LOTS! lol But i'm determined and i enjoy the challenge.. Hugs! deb
Deletethank you much Deb-hugs
DeleteWhen I started drawing, I focused on birds. I love them and wanted to capture their beauty. It was much more difficult than I imagined it would be. You did a much better job than I did after several attempts. I love what you’re doing with up these watercolors.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, thank you so much, the Chinese watercolor and ink book has really helped me allot-gives me a place to start and I am enjoying my watercolors now
DeleteIts a beautiful page and the robin looks fantastic.. I think we all see different things when we look at art pages. you can tell that the artist enjoyed creating it and hope they know, that their work has made other folk happy as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking to Matilde's theme at AJJ.
