T Stands for Tuesday is upon us where we share a drink related photo and link up over at Bleubeard and Elizabeth with friends.
Spring has arrived here in the Ozarks-Missouri. Warm days and then cooler, rainy days and then warm ups again. Feels good and Sunday was the official beginning of Spring with temps in the 70's f and then back down again.
Not ready for the grass to grow tall just yet but it is starting to grow already with all the rains we have had. I will begin killing it off and replace it with ground covers and perennial flowers. Will be easier maintenance for us and my hope is to bring in lots of butterflies, birds, some bees. The other goal was not needing to pay for a lawn cutting service as that price will be higher this year
As we warm up we are seeing more boats on the lake. Along with fishing boats we started seeing recreation boats out and about last weekend. This has been a rough winter so non permanent residents are getting out to their lake homes.
We are also seeing more geese, diving ducks, loons, and even sea gulls and pelicans. Last week when I was working outdoors I got to view a very cool event. Out over the lake in front of our home the eagle couple was teaching last year's juvenile how to hunt for fish. My husband's office has a window facing the lake where his desk is and often times sees one of the eagles hunting for fish from the lake-this was the first time I got to see that-very exciting. So grateful I got to watch this eagle family. Very special.
Last week I did get 20 bottles of perennial flowers and herbs planted can view here how I put these together. I call them mini greenhouses. The next day I dug up an area of grass and planted 30 roots of bloodroot, goldenseal, and wild geranium-can view here along with a pre sunrise video over the lake if you missed that post.
For my drink share this week I found a photo I took probably a month ago now that I don't think I have shared yet. This wine is from a local winery-Stover, Missouri. This was a good tasting wine-not sweet and it had an interesting finish. This wine tasted much better warm then chilled. You can also see a glass of ice tea in the back. The top of the wine glass shows a reflection from the label-thought that was cool
I have mentioned it before but I have really enjoyed my slow mail friends, especially over this past winter-surprises in my mailbox. I just really love hand written letters.
End of last week I received a letter from Iris in Germany. I love the card she created-with stitching and Henry too. The envelope was filled with pretty stamps
Slow mail just really brightens up my day. and speaking of bright. A very bright sun Saturday morning We will be seeing lots of diamonds on the water now through summer
I did make reuben sandwiches for us with the left over corned beef-they turned out soooo delicious. I will share how I made them on Food Wednesdays.
I have some sewing projects I want to get to, thinking when it's raining or too hot this summer to be outdoors will be a good time. I just bought this pattern by FolkWear which is a basics jacket pattern, looks loose and roomy
Happy T Everyone and enjoy the beginnings of Spring
Love your choice of jacket. Wish to see the boats roam must be lively with eagle family around. Looking forward to your sandwich making. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteHi we will get many boats on the lake starting in May especially I will share some photos. we are so enjoying watching the eagle family-this was really special today. enjoy your day too and new week ahead
DeleteHappy first day of spring, Kathy. Our temps have been up and down, too. Today was cold and it rained all day. We definitely needed the rain, though.
ReplyDeleteHope your herbs do well. I have very little grass in my front yard, but the back is nothing but grass. I would love to hire a company to mow my yard, but until I am too feeble to do so, I will continue to plow through. I can understand why you would need a lawn service. Your yard must be a bear with all the hills and such.
Your wine looks nice. Never had hot wine, but I'm not really a wine drinker. Lovely mug, though. Thanks for sharing your lovely week, your snail mail from Iris, and your view of the lake with us for T this Tuesday, or will be soon.
Hi Elizabeth we have rain coming in Monday night and then the next day too-if they don't change it haha.
Deleteyes neither of us is up to mowing this lawn-very steep on the two sides of the house. the first year we had good service, the father being ill they recommended the service we used last year-they were horrible and more expensive.
this wine was not heated as sometimes people to heat the wine with spices, this one was served room temperature-made a huge difference in the flavor of this wine. Happy T
Happy Spring, Kathy! Gorgeous early morning sunshine and I love that loose roomy jacket!
ReplyDeleteHappy Spring Angie, this looks like a really fun jacket pattern Happy new week
DeleteWow, you sure do a lot of gardening!
ReplyDeleteHere it´s sunny, yet cold. But Spring really is on the way, finally!
I think I have never seen an eagle for real. Must have been a delight to see a young one learning.
Wine from a mug?
Glad you enjoyed the card :-)
Beautiful lake-pic again, so peaceful.
I have just a couple of these hand made porcelain little cups-mugs-they are very light weight and if we just want a little bit of wine they are perfect.
Deletewe decided we are done with cutting grass so want to get rid of it all and plant ground covers and flowers instead of-it is a huge job getting rid of the grass yes spring has arrived although we could still get a freeze or cold weather til May
Yes I love your slow mail-hugs
So glad spring has arrived and that you can get to work in your garden. Glad you enjoyed your blackberry wIne, sounds good. Happy T Day, hugs, vALERIE
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Valerie-good luck with your health test hugs
DeleteHappy spring, Kathy. I have never seen eagles hunting for fish. It must be a great experience. I love the pattern you bought. I am sure you will make a fantastic jacket. And I am very glad that you got a snail mail. I know how much you enjoy it. You got some gorgeous papers and a very nice card. Hugs, my friend. Enjoy the sun on the lake!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Mia-yes the eagle family was so awesome to watch them hunt for fish. Happy T and new week hugs
DeleteGround covers rule! I love that jacket. Watching the birds is fun, and you must have some wonderful opportunities there.
ReplyDeleteHappy T Day
Hi I have never done much with ground covers but they will work our really well here with all these steep hills
DeleteThat's a cute pattern. Would probably make a great patchwork jacket. The best thing about living in a rural area like we both do is watching things in nature that urban people will never see. Proof is how often cars stop on the road to take pictures of the sheep, llama, Emu and Ostrich. Once I even heard a little boy say he had never seen a sheep.
ReplyDeletexx, Carol
Thanks, this pattern company showed a sample of how to turn this into a patchwork jacket-so you have a good eye-hugs. I may do that.
DeleteI agree we have always lived rural and have always enjoyed it so much. Since I started putting some bird seed out on the deck we have both enjoyed seeing all the different birds that visit.
that is sad the young boy had never seen a sheep, hopefully he will be inspired by nature hugs
It's only Monday here but happy Tuesday to you. We are still in some weird weather so no spring yet. Nice to get the flowers planted. Yum on the wine.
ReplyDeleteMonday here too-I like to post early to spread out to another day for visiting-since are many on T to visit
DeleteHow fun to have such a variety of birds around there. I could lose a few hours a day watching them. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a loon. Perhaps at a zoo but definitely not in the wild.
ReplyDeleteHi This is the first time I have a seen a loon, and there were two different species of them here. I looked them up as I thought loons were only seen further north-so that was a real treat.
Deletewe do enjoy all the birds
oops I actually saw loons here for the first time last year fall
DeleteGosh you are not only a cooking master and loom master, but a gardening master too! I'm hoping to get just a few herbs to live in pots on my patio this year-lol. Must be wonderful to see and hear all the spring changes around the lake. And what lovely mail art from Iris.
ReplyDeleteHappy T day!
Love the look of that jacket!
Thank you so much Linda-yes we have a few warmer days here so great seeing all the wildlife
DeleteHi Kathy, your "diamonds" on the lake are lovely and it must be wonderful to watch the eagle family. How are you planning to kill your grass? We had lawn all around our home when we bought it and I converted it to a drought tolerant garden with lots of different plants. I used the sheet mulching method. It was a lot of work, but so worth it. The back still is not completely done, but the front (a corner lot, so a lot of space) I sheet mulched in one long hot summer with the help of my daughter. The planting definitely is the better part!
ReplyDeleteI started to hand dig out the grass but when I looked at how much I need to do-ah a bit daunting for sure. we are in for a rainy week now. I am thinking I will be using weed killer which I am not thrilled about, but will help me get it done faster.
DeleteThis property has very steep hills all over it too and with all this rain we will be getting there are sections that the grass will be growing thick and tall. did you place plastic down on the grass to kill it? I wish I would have thought of this last fall.
I just ordered allot of seeds for creeping thyme ground cover-it grows short with lots of pretty flowers and it is an herb as well. That will look pretty over the rocks going into the lake, and these hills too. this is a big project for sure. and I am starting from seed many perennial flowers and herbs
Happy T day Kathy. It sounds like life has been good lately. That eagle family you saw was a lucky find. You just never know when you get to experience those things, do you? It is good spring is coming, isn't it? Have a great T day and week ahead. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting about the eagle family-that was very special to see-and I would not have been working outdoors I would have missed it.
DeleteHappy Spring and T Hugs
Eagles are definitely wonderful creatures, though their voices are unexpectedly tiny, like smaller songbirds. We saw a number of them on a visit to the Susquehanna River in Maryland this morning.
ReplyDeletebest... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
they are amazing to watch
DeleteI am envious of you seeing the eagle family, and of your lake views. I miss my mom's place on Beaver Lake, Garfield AR. I have some great photos, though that I should share on here sometime. Enjoy your Spring views.
ReplyDeleteHappy t day.
The eagle family is what makes our lake home special-we watch for them every day. I would love to see your Mom's lake home-hugs
DeleteFabulous post and happy spring! The wine looks so interesting and I love that gorgeous jacket 😁. Happy T Day! Hugs Jo x
ReplyDeletethank you this was a nice wine. usually these are really sweet and this one was on the dry side which we like better. Happy T
DeleteLove that jacket!
ReplyDeleteSpring is just starting here. I just put in a call for lawn mowing services as the young man we had last year isn't coming down this way anymore. Happy Mail is just the best. I like that jacket too. Would make a great "shawl" for cool evenings. Happy T Day
ReplyDeleteWhen we first moved here I found someone we really liked allot, they decided not to mow lawns anymore and only do landscaping jobs last year I was really unhappy and I hired the person the other one recommended. I couldn't find one last fall for now so decided we would enjoy ground covers and flowers more.
Deletethanks about the jacket pattern--I think this could be many different things
I love reubens! Such a great meal.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely jacket. Looking forward to seeing it when you complete it.
Yes, grass is high maintenance. Flowers are so pretty and a great alternative.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
we love reubens too, thanks I am excited about this jacket-will go through my stash of fabrics and see what I have. I am thinking hte flowers will be really pretty Happy T
DeleteI have read and reread this post, but never commented- not sure why for it is such a wonderful one. I am trying to finish up some inside cleaning so I will be ready to dig in the dirt when the weather is right. Lucky you to be able to watch the eagles, and the diamonds on the lake
ReplyDeletewe are getting allot of rain right now so my outdoor progress is on hold for a bit. that was so awesome watching the eagle family hunting for fish.
Deleteyes loving diamonds on the lake again
Happy Spring Kathy! I love your bottle idea for the seeds, very clever and eco-friendly using up those bottles. I also love slow mail, so nice to receive something other than bills in the mail isn't it lol. Sorry for my lateness, struggling with my sprained wrist. Happy belated T Day Elle/EOTC xx
ReplyDeleteso sorry for your sprained wrist-no fun at all
Deletethese bottles work so well for starting seeds. Happy T feel better
I love how you made little greenhouses for your seedlings! I think your wildflower idea is much better than having grass to cut! How fascinating it must be to watch those eagles, as well as all the other wild life around. Your wine does look great with the label reflection.
ReplyDeleteVery belated greetings for T day - with a car that had to be in the service dept 2 Fridays running and trying to decide what to take to Paris now that we know that it will be cold(and may snow) Haven't had much computer time! Hugs, Chrisx
Hi Chris, thanks for taking the time to visit-some weeks stuff happens that takes up allot of time
DeleteOh I look forward to seeing photos of your trip back to Paris-snow-oh no we have been cold here all week and I have much to do outdoors take care hugs
