T Stands for Tuesday

  Hi Everyone,
Wow another T Stands for Tuesdays is upon us.

We share a drink related post with friends, You are most welcome to join us-please find our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth at the link in my right hand column.

As the weather goes we were cooler last week and in the 20's at night. This week the rains will be coming in. I have been enjoying the blooming daffodils, lots of wildlife and many nights a dozen or so deer have dropped by at once. The duck pair is still here every day too. and a really big surprise but I could not get a photo quick enough-I look out the bay window and there is  ground hog-wow that was craziness but reminded me of Yellowstone's marmots haha

Did you celebrate StPatricks's Day?  Hubs and I love boiled corn beef, cabbage, carrots, and potatoes. I usually bake a bread to go with. Since meeting our friend Mr L here we learned his birthday is on this day so I invite him over for the feast. He turned 75 this year. This year I tried out a new recipe for an Irish Soda Bread baked in a dutch oven in the oven. It turned out great. I will post the recipe with photos on Friday for cast iron Friday's
I tried a gluten free version that I thought should work but sadly it did not it just would not bake inside even after slicing a piece and toasting it well so the wildlife got to eat it haha

I have been reading the Twilight saga books all week and am on the last one now.
I also spun another skein of bison yarn.

I also worked on a couple components for my art fabric journal.

I made the second moon for March.
In March when there is a second moon it is called the Sap Moon-for maple syrup according to the Farmer's Almanac. I am hoping this looks like a maple syrup tap

I also remembered that I had some metal flower stencils that I used with fabric crayon type sticks. So I played around with that and some stamps to make a spring piece.

I made a mistake with the date-wanted to put 3-20-18 so I may try to cut that out or just redo this not sure yet. Update-I do not like it at all haha so I have cut that out and it looks much nicer now.

This weekend I just signed up for three classes at Fiber U  This is an event that comes to our nearby civic center every July. It is everything fiber with lots of vendors and classes. I am always amazed that most of the vendors and students drive a long way and from other states as well. I mailed it out the next day so Hoping I get the classes I want.
I did not take any classes last year, but this year I found several I liked. I am a self taught natural dyer never took any classes. One of the classes being offered is dyeing with woods and their historic significance so that sounded fun. I also liked that the class limit is 12 people. I contacted the teacher and this is a hands on class, she told me she lets her students do all of the dyeing so I am excited for this one.
I wish I was more advanced with my spinning as this year they have several more advanced classes that I would have loved to take-one of them spinning silk from the cocoon.  Most years they do not offer spinning and this year they have many classes which is nice to see.
I found a class in the morning before the dye class for making rolags with a blending board. rolags are for spinning into yarn.  I have made some already but had some difficulty so thought this class would be fun too. So with these two classes on Saturday is filled. I do not need to shop at all-I have so much here already but I usually find something I have to have ha ha. but this day there is only one hour in between the two classes and then the event closes-so I am safe from shopping ha ha.
On Sunday there is a new class as well-- learning to weave on one of those Scandinavian band looms. It is not really a loom per se but usually a piece of board with holes and slots for the the weft and warp. I am intrigued since this dates to the 1800's. This is a long class 8 am to 3 pm with a lunch break.
So of course I am looking forward to this fiber event again.

The other day I decided to open up a bottle of Riesling-one of my old favorites.

These last two photos are a bit blurry as the deer were moving around

Happy T For Tuesday everyone.
So glad you stopped by.

  1. Wow- you sure have a lot of deer. That is nice! And I am also jealous you have such a big fiber "convention" in your area. Those classes sound great. And yes, I can say your sap bucket looks just perfect as we have lots of them around here. And I LOVE your spring piece with that happy looking spider. Sounds like you've had a great week. happy T day Kathy-Hugs-Erika

  2. I have just been reading an article about how you can spin DRYER LINT into fiber. It can be dyed, but it can also be left natural. I remember a lady sent me some dryer lint she got from new towels after she washed them. The color was incredible. I had planned to use it in my handmade paper, but if I find it, I might send it to you so you can spin it.

Looks like you have had a productive week. I was really impressed with the stencils. I don't seem to have much luck with metal stencils, but it appears you have.

I loved seeing the deer photos and really enjoyed the journal update, too.

I've heard of Riesling, but never tasted it. Now I know what to give you as a hostess gift if I ever visit you!

Thanks for sharing your classes you will be taking, as I am especially interested in the dyeing process, your art journal, your deer photos, and your Riesling with us for T this week.

  3. You have had a busy and productive week as always. The bison yarn looks great. Hope you get to join in the classes you want this summer, it all sounds fabulous. Glad you enjoyed your wine. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  4. Oh wow - sounds super with the St.Patricks Day celebration at your house - no we don't celebrate this day in Austria yet, but I bet they will find a way to make some commerz as here as well with this day her soon! I lgot confused by that Riesling , I know Landhut as a city in Bavaria and more known for beer ( I went to school in that region of Bavaria) but now I saw that Landshut is a castle at the Moselle and a good area for wines and that special 2012 wine is a very good one I read.
Sorry that the gluten free version didn't work , but the wild animals were happy with it for sure!
Fabulous pages - fantastic sticks and great that you will join this fiber class! Enjoy!

Happy T-Day and happy week! Thank you for all the photos! Love the deer!
    Hugs, Susi

  5. I cooked corned beef, potatoes, and carrots in the crockpot. Himself doesn't like cooked cabbage. I don't either, but I'll blame him. Sounds like you will have a wonderful time at Fiber U. That's what a sap bucket looks like. Great color on the wine bottle. Wow, to the deer and your daffodils. So pretty!. Happy T Day!

  6. I have never taken any fiber classes but would love to. It is tuff to do stuff when you only have one car and DH uses it for work. I wish we could afford to go back to being a two car family, sigh. Anywho, the classes you are going to take sound like oodles of fun! I'm a smidge jealous!

The corned beef and cabbage sounds like it was quite yummy! I haven't made that for St. Patrick's Day in a long time... It seems my rhythm has fallen completely apart as to cooking and doing things around the house. Ever since I discontinued the anxiety and anti-depression meds back in December I have been experiencing a lot more pain due to the fibromyalgia. Need to get my act together but am unsure where to start, oh well, I'll get there... just have to keep plodding along.
Say, did you ever get that light board?
Well, off to continue reorganizing my studio in the hopes I will once again find my inspiration...
Hugs for now from still way too snowy New Hampshire...

  7. Your spun yarn makes me want to do this again. In good time, I will! The journal is really coming along, would like to do one of those too. I want to do everything! Lol. So where does one go after finishing all the Twilight books? If you read them only once, maybe start over? I went through all of them twice, then donated them to the library. 😉 I giggled reading a comment suggesting spinning dryer lint. Reminded me of The Big Bang episode where Sheldon reluctantly empties the dryer lint filter saying “It’s like emptying the whole building’s belly button”. I’d put out corn for the deer here, but we don’t have a lot of land behind our house. How far from your house are these beautiful visitors?

  8. The bison yarn looks lovely, its a super rich colour.
You have had a busy week and it must have been a nice way for your neighbour to celebrate his Birthday with you on St Patrick's day.
The classes you are going to sound good, you will have fun I think with all the like minded folk you will meet there.
The deer photos looked lovely as well.
    Happy T day wishes Kathy.

  9. We did celebrate St. Patrick's Day but not with the traditional meal you had. i used to make it but it wasn't a fave so I gave up on making it. How nice to be surrounded by so much nature and creatures.

  12. You've been keeping busy it seems. I enjoyed hearing about the classes you intend to take. It is fun to get together with people who have the same interests you have isn't it?

  13. Great deer photos. When we go to Estes Park Colorado in the Summer, I get a lot of deer and elk photos. So special. It is neat that you are taking weaving classes. My mother in law wove all her kids afghan blankets on a loom. She is gone now and we treasure them. Have fun at your finer event!

  14. It sounds wonderful to just look out your window and see all that wildlife, Kathy. Deer are so elegant looking - if you don't care that they're eating your landscape. There's a lot to be said for keeping things more natural.

Your daffodils are very pretty. I'm not sure how you did the raindrops (a stamp maybe) but they realy complete the picture of spring nicely.

I can't wait to hear about what you learn at Fiber U. How nice for you to have it so close to home. I hope you et the classes you chose.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

  15. That bison yarn looks very good. Well done you.
No, we do not celebrate St Patrick's Day, Itis celebrated in Ireland of course and privately by any Irish person abroad. It is also celebrated in the US by people who are not Irish or of Irish descent. Why, I donot know.
It sounds like you are going to have a very interesting weekend. Please don't forget to take pictures. We want to know all about the course and what you made and what you did.
Happy T-Day and have a good week,
    Lisca

  17. You have been very busy. I love that you are sharing all your creative projects with us. Spinning yarn seems like a wonderful craft to do while watching TV. And I love your progress on your fabric journal. looking forward to seeing those stenciled spring flowers on a page.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  18. oh, your daffodils are blooming! spotted them in the background of the deer photo ;) love your bison yarn, and the classes you've signed up for sound marvelous. Can't wait to see what you create in the weaving class! Your book is coming along nicely too...the rain on the daffodils is perfect! (I probably would have just appliqued something over the bit I didn't like) the beauty of mixed media is you can change what you aren't happy with and do something different and it's all good! your book will be a wonderful memento of the year...happy T day a bit late!
