Do you get the large flocks of starlings? They are a blackbird with a lovely song and they arrive here in huge flocks early spring for just a few days. I don't know where their destination is but I do enjoy seeing them.
Any sense of movement or sound and the whole flock takes off. When they come back it's like they fall out of the trees. kinda fun.
I just took these photos.
Wow, that#s a lot of birds, thanks for sharing! hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThey are amazing- we had a large flock of them recently as guests in our garden - they were so hungry and we had to feed them for a few days -they are gone now. The other birds seemed to be a bit angry and are happy now that they are gone.I saw the starlings here this year for the first time and was so impressed with them...
ReplyDeleteYou got great photos! I just have one not so good photo out of the window to remember them . I have to take the better camera I think.
I would so love to get better photos of the birds in our garden as a reference to paint, but my photos are always just lousy!

I haven't seen the starlings at my house but I have seen them around lately. And here a flock of robins is always a sign of spring and I saw some Saturday. :) Spring is on its way I hope. Happy new week. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteWe do have starlings here but I don't often get to see them in large groups.
ReplyDeleteYes, they are here in NJ too, especially noticeable in the wide open sky where I walk around school grounds. They are amazing when they all shift direction at once as if drawn by a thread.
ReplyDeleteWe get Grackles like that in the Fall. A little birdie must have told the starlings to stop off at the Corn Lady's house.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos! Starlings are permenant residents where we live and I love to watch them roosting for the night when they collectively make the most amazing patterns in the sky (murmuration). I also remember when I was young that they sometimes fell down the chimney and them flying round the house with my mum trying to catch them (grin!). Enjoy and have a wonderful new week! J 😊 x
ReplyDeleteSo funny Kathy i did not think those were Starlings.. They look more like Grackles to me from your photos.. I thought Starlings look like they have almost no tail with speckles all over them.. ??? I could be and probably am entirely wrong... lol Great photos! Nope i haven't seen any.. Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteYes they come here too.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this video link will work .. one I took when we had an extremely large flock show up..

Yes we get the starlings, they are really noisy. I don't think our other bird visitors like them as they seem to take over when they call in.

We get the starlings and grackles together like you do. They hang around all summer, and clean out my birdfeeders regularly ;) I love the look of the grackles with their shimmery blue heads and bright yellow eyes. I never much cared for the starlings, but they have some quite pretty markings on their feathers which I used to overlook. Have a great week Kathy!

Dear Kathy,
ReplyDeleteWe have seen a few grackles hanging out at Baker Creek Seeds, but none in our yard so far. I believe there was a flock of grackles in the cow pasture next door, but they haven't ventured over, either. Looks like you have some lovely daffodils blooming! They are everywhere around here.
Love,
Marqueta
I can't believe I missed this post. I apologize, because I must have been getting ready for company.
ReplyDeleteI don't see starlings here. Maybe because there are so many Canadian Geese here. The field across from the Joplin airport (which is on the north edge of Webb City) used to be black with them when they arrived. The airport finally had to install loud horns because the birds were getting caught in some of the smaller planes that landed at the airport. These are a bit larger than the starlings I remember from WC, but that could be because I was speeding by in my car and they were covering the ground with black. Thanks for the memory, dear and sorry I missed this.
