T Stands for More Botanicals & Pizza

Hi Everyone, and Happy T Stands for Tuesday hosted by Bleubeard and Elizabeth, just share a drink related photo, find the link up in sidebar

How about those Chiefffffs as coach Andy Reid always says haha  I had a feeling this game would go down to the last second which it did. Was surprised all the sports casters chose the Eagles to win.  I had a feeling KC would win since they are a very united team and really wanted this one.

I did make more botanical inks last week, which I enjoy using like watercolor paints too. If interested here is a link for the orange peel ink a link for my art practice piece using only the botanicals-my favorite piece so far and the link to my ink day making hibiscus ink and matcha ink. The matcha gave me a pretty green and the hibiscus is so much nicer than the berry ink.

Waiting for the big game yesterday, I did another art practice  I am in love with the softness and the earthiness of these botanicals. The green is the matcha, the purple flower is the hibiscus, the other flowers are the orange peel, and the brown is explained in the links.

I have a question and hoping you artists may know.  Allot of these botanicals are light sensitive and will also fade over time. Is there a spray or sealant of some sort that would work with these water based botanicals?  thank you

I decided to make us pizzas on Sunday. I grabbed a pizza stone for mine and the large cast iron pan for Larry's pizza-sooo good.

Pizza is so good baked in cast iron

The gluten free version-of course there is no rise but this was a good tasting crust

For my drink this week, I brewed up some of my dried pineapple sage and bee balm flowers together-made a good tasting cup of tea

Happy T

  1. This was the first entire Super Bowl game I watched all the way through. It was a great game, but not the final outcome I wanted. No matter, they put on a really great show! I recognized Andy Reid from decades ago. He started his professional coaching career in Philly for the Eagles! I wondered if your inks would fade. It seems light causes fading so keeping your work out of the light is the only deterrentI know about. Maybe someone else has a different suggestion. Nice painting!

    1. I knew this was going to be an exciting and close game. Yes Andy Reid talks about how much he loved being in Philly back then. I only watch the super game if there is a team in it that I like-otherwise I never watch it.
yes I keep these inks out of the light all the time except when using them, I was hoping there might be a spray I could use to protect pieces I like
      Thank you Barbara

    1. Angie, all you REALLY need to know about American football is the team with the ball gets four tries (called DOWNS) to advance 10 yards on the field. Everything else is irrelevant and you learn as you watch!

  4. That pizza looks yummy. I don't usually make a high rising crust for my pizza either. You got a great browning on your cheese. Now I'm hungry as I haven't had my supper yet. Your tea looks great also. Does it have any pineapple taste? Happy T day. hugs-Erika

    1. These pizzas were really delicious-we ate more today and I froze the rest for a meal later on. This was a really good tasting tea but no pineapple flavor

  5. I have never cared for pizza that tasted like bread dough. I might like your gluten free pizza. The first pizza I ever had was from Pizza Hut, before it was sold. The crust was almost like a cracker, so I still associate pizza with that original pizza crust. I like the type cooked in an open oven. They turn out about like the ones I first got at Pizza Hut. Now I am really, really, really hungry for pizza. I almost bought one to bake for the game yesterday, but didn't venture out to get one.

I like your painting with the dye. The turmeric really took over the color. The Matcha turned out even prettier than before.

This is the first Superbowl I didn't get upset over. Usually I am so stressed that my team isn't going to win, I get upset. This time I was calm even when they were down at the half. For some reason, even with the odds makers giving the advantage to the Eagles, I just KNEW Mahomes and the Chiefs were going to win. Never thought it would be with a field goal, though.

If I was trying to preserve my ink, I would buy a product by Krylon called "Preserve It." It keeps smudges and moisture away and protects against UV light. Any cheap spray hair spray will do the same, but "real" artists prefer the Krylon alternative. Two or three light coats are preferable to one heavy blast.

Your tea looks pretty today. Reminds me of more botanicals (grin). thanks for sharing your art and your tea with us for T this week, Kathy.

By the time the Chiefs have their parade, we will be back in the deep freeze.

  6. I love a fire oven too for pizzas, but never found a place for gluten free crust. This summer I will go back to making them in the weber-we like the smoky taste too.
Thank you so much on how to preserve the art pieces I want to save-will look into that for sure.
I am hoping they air the chiefs parade on the tv again live-they did that on the last one-but that was their first super bowl win in 50 years. they are already closing down the schools in KC on wednesday. I had a feeling they were going to win too, but the first half had me worried-so I recorded the third quarter and watched something else to calm down-and they got back to it-they were a changed team in the second half-the team has great leaders, all the new players really stepped up and of course Mahomes played through his injury-he injured it again in the first half.
we have 60's f through wednesday before it gets cooler again.

    1. We don't get above freezing on Wednesday and they are predicting snow that day, too. Laura Kelly, our governor, was the first person to bet money when she signed the bill to allow Sports betting in KS. Her original $15.00 bet won her $150.00. She donated $165.00 (her $150 win and the $15,00 original bet). She donated it to Mahomes charity. I can't remember the name of it. Maybe Mahomies or something like that. She also had a side bet with the governor of PA. He will have to fly the Chiefs flag in the capitol (for the MO governor) and send Kelly Eagles mini doughnuts, soft pretzels, and Philly cheese steaks.

    2. wow I can't believe the difference in weather-we are suppose to be sunny and mid 60's-we are suppose to get help here for the dock that day.
awesome she donated her winnings-Mahomes does allot of charity work. she had some great bets-love that

    3. I failed to mention that Kelly's bet was on Mahomes winning the Superbowl. DUH!

  7. Krylon has a clear sealer that has a matte finish and one that has a "chalk" finish. It's for anything painted.

I still think your best bet is cheap hairspray. At least I THINK they still make hairspray.

    1. I found a krylon product that is good for watercolors-but in comments on amazon need to be careful with it and test it out first as it can change the colors-will look for a cheap hair spray first

My advice, go with #6 which is supposed to be four dollars at amazon.

I'm off to find something to eat.

And yes, we really drove all the way there! What a joy "our" team one.

Oh, another beautiful promise of Spring!

You really do this. 05:15 a.m. and I see yummy pizza! That is "mean" ;-)

  15. I watched the game, because my husband was cheering on KC. American football games last so long, and most of the time seems to involve players milling around on the field lol You can tell I don't "get" this game.

The pizza looks delicious. My husband has used a pizza stone, but we've never used cast iron.

    Happy T Tuesday

  17. Go Chiefs!!! We watched the game while eating nachos supreme that i made.. That first half sure was a nailbiter.. But the Chiefs came back strong in the second half.. bet the Eagles wondered what hit them.. lol The ending was kinds meh.. both hubby and i couldn't believe they didn't go for the touch down when they had the chance.. but we both understand why.. they needed to play it safe.. Your pizza looks delish!! Both hubby and i love deep dish pizza with alot of crust.. and cheese and.. well just everything!! lol The wind here is really blowing!! Supposed to be near 80F here tomorrow then take a nose dive.. no precip i don't think though.. Hope things warm up well enough on Friday as we are planning a trip to Fredricksburg.. OH! and you shouldn't have to worry about your watercolors as long as they are in the book.. If you want to hang one on the wall i know i've seen a UV protectant spray somewhere.. but not sure how the spray would react with watercolor.. may reactivate it.. I've also seen some UV protectant glass you can put in the frame if you want to hang it on the wall.. Hope you find something! Happy T day! Hugs! deb

    1. Yum your nachos sounds delicious-haven't made that in some time. The Chiefs came back from half time with the determination to win-and Mahomes had re injured his ankle again too. I felt bad that the player couldn't make the touchdown but they needed to wind down the clock so not to give the eagles time to score and win I am sure the Eagles coach would have done the same.
thanks for the tips. there is a special glass to block out the light, I think some of the botanicals are more touchy- I found a Krylon product for watercolors-I asked about it on amazon-artists use it but it can change the colors and one described how to apply it-sounds touchy. Haven't found a cheap hair spray yet online than Elizabeth also mentioned. I only wanted something for a piece I really would like to keep.
we have allot of rain here today, and now strong winds are moving in too.
      Happy T

  21. Yay Chiefs. Mr. M. tells me they are a second half team and they came through again. I made a spaghetti bake for our SB food. Your pizza looks amazing as dose the tea. Now for the sealing of your ink art. I am not sure because it is not alcohal ink, so try this on a scratch piece of art. Aqua net hair spray. I use that for my drawings. It is way cheaper than Krylon or other artists sprays. Have a great day today.

Maybe I'll make pizza tonight! ☺☺ I have a fixative from Winsor & Newton that I have used on my charcoal drawings, but I never attempted it with watercolors.
