T Stands for Spinning Yellowstone & Sailboat

T Stands for Tuesday, where we gather over at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's to share our "doings" with a drink related photo. Find link in sidebar.

I am writing this post early afternoon on Sunday where the weather is glorious!  I still don't have a working car as of yet, so Larry drove me for a few groceries early morning. By mid day we had full sunshine,  light wind, and warmth-up in the 60's F  Loving it!! Tomorrow more of the same.

I had a pretty thick layer of fall leaves on top of the creeping thyme ground cover that I planted last year-and that needed to come off so it would not kill these plants. I ended up with a huge black trash bag full of leaves. I hope to be able to get allot of leaf burning accomplished on Monday as we will have the same weather pattern.

I have dug out my folding table that I use for allot of projects like soap making, and planting seeds in my gallon "greenhouse" bottles-I have a huge bag of bottles ready to use for planting.

Larry caught a sailboat out on the lake Sunday-perfect day for it-very few boaters on the lake, and the perfect wind too.

This photo below is a bit blurry as I had to really zoom in to enlarge. This is to the left of us looking out the wall of windows.

Friday I grabbed my spinning project-which I have not gotten back to since last year fall. These are the spinning fibers I picked up back in 2018 that reminded me of Yellowstone Park.

The sunshine was really pouring through the window here-this is the coffee table in front of the couch. Behind you will see  my drink share-a cup of green tea and lemon balm

I had bought a big bag of small amounts of different rovings at one of the last Fiber U events I attended before we moved to the lake. I am down now to a couple more colors to get spun-then to decide want I want to weave with these handspuns-thinking of some sort of wrap for me. I will add in the buffalo yarn I have spun too.

This one  below I just started today.  I still don't make "perfect" yarn, but for weaving I don't mind the thick and thin yarns I am ending up with. This one below is mostly wool and I am having an easier time making nicer yarn. Mine are usually singles. and some of these I will ply together with a fine angora yarn.

I am really  loving the colors of this one too

I also have the pretty one below to spin up next. I have a bit more of this color to spin than I had of the others, I also have a light grey to spin-time is passing by too fast-My goal now is to get all of these rovings spun up and ready to weave by end of this year.

This past week I made us biscuits and gravy-yum, and a rice dish also made in cast iron with poblano peppers, onion, and beef chorizo to go with the boiled shrimp that I found in the freezer. These are a couple of our favorite dishes.

Amazing-haha the biscuits on the right are gluten free and they gave me a nicer rise than the wheat ones to the left-I used a King Arthur white whole wheat for the biscuits on the left.

I have one more drink share-in the back of our frig-I keep a few ciders, I haven't had one in months-so grabbed this Pineapple cider to go with our left over lunch today.

Happy T and an awesome new week

  1. What a beautiful color roving. We are not allowed to burn leaves we were told it ends up in acid rain.
I hope you get your car soon. My husband and I had to share a car for awhile it was no fun.
    enjoy the weather

    1. oh wow that is interesting, I don't really have a way to compost them here at the lake, and for such a small lot there are soooo many leaves here-at the woods house I didn't care about the leaves haha
Larry is a mechanic but he is not healthy enough to do the work any more-he did have an idea an worked on it when got back from shopping. His care is a suburban-too big for me. thanks hope you get some warmer weather too

  2. Kathy just catching up on visiting. It sounds like your weather is much like ours. Unbelievable for February. I believe I heard a robin singing early this morning. Wow spring must just be around the corner now. What a lovely photo of the sailboat on the lake. Your yarn projects are so inspiring. You certainly know how to keep busy. Those biscuits look delicious. Makes me think I need to stir up some GF ones for hubby and serve them with sausage gravy. Well take care sweet friend. Hugs!

    1. we don't see robins here in this area of Missouri much-and I always loved seeing them where we lived in northern Illinois, we have too many rocks here I think-and they are worm eaters.
I am loving this warm spell in the weather.too, I have been so cold this winter.
I love seeing the sailboats-in the summer there are too many speed boats on the lake here.so it was a perfect day for them to be out on the lake.
I do switch my crafts around-spinning was calling to me again-smiles.
for me its been so difficult to make a good gluten free bread-but the biscuits have been turning out really good-have an awesome new week-hugs

  5. We can’t burn leaves here either but we live on almost 2 acres of wooded land. So the leaves stay where they fall except around the house. So good to see spinning coming back! Perfect is not really feasible to achieve, but that’s OK! Whatever you make won’t look like it came from a department store. Hand-made items are under-rated.

    1. thanks so much, I try to improve my spinning, it is getting better, the main thing for me is I really enjoy it very much
when we lived in the woods I never worried about the leaves either just raked away from the house too. here at the lake-they need to get raked up-and there are soooo many of them too I don't like burning either but no where to put them-Missouri rural still does allot of burning here

  6. I am in awe of the many wonderful crafts in which you are proficient. It was good to see you spinning again. Those rovings are beautiful. I suspect you will be able to get the rovings spun by the end of this year. You are on a roll right now. When you said angora, I remember I bought an angora sweater with money I made in the summer when I was in high school. It was the softest sweater I ever owned.

You have made me hungry. I want biscuits, gravy, and a sunny side up egg. Speaking of eggs, I paid over $5.00/doz for eggs when I went grocery shopping last week.

Had to laugh at the pineapple cider. Didn't notice the name at first. Thanks for sharing your tea, your rovings and spinning, your delicious meals you fixed, and your pineapple cider you shared with us for T this week, dear Kathy.

    1. Thank you Elizabeth, I have had spinning on my mind, but wanted to make a few more botanical inks-paints I have enough colors now til I can experiment with some flower petals.
I was looking for that grey roving which I still can't find-thought it would have been with the other yellowstone colors but did run into a bag of my very early spinning-so I can say I have greatly improved haha and I had forgotten when we moved to the lake that this bag the mice had found-I was able to salvage just one skein which is a pretty color and spun better than the rest-I tossed the rest as they had really chewed it up and it was pretty bad hand spun too haha
we love homemade biscuits and gravy too with an egg on top-I try to make it for us every couple of months. I bought eggs yesterday at wal mart and they were a little over 4.00 a dozen so not too bad as I always buy the large brown eggs that are cage free and in the cardboard cartons.
The name was pretty funny-that has been in the frig since last year summer-it was a 3 pack. This one is pretty good and you can taste the pineapple

  7. Lucky you to be able to rake leaves off your plants already. Old man winter is coming back later this week to us with more snow. It is interesting how different parts of our big country can have such different weather patterns. I won't be raking until at least into April. And you look like you've also had lots of fun in the kitchen Kathy. Those biscuits look good, but I can't make a good biscuit for the life of me. But I will keep trying-smile. And how is pineapple cider? I was looking at some in the market yesterday. Happy new week and happy early T day. Hugs-Erika

    1. It will probably get cold again here, hopefully no more snow although we have had snow here in May after the fruit blossoms were out. I had noticed that the thyme was dying in some places do to the very thick leaves, so needed to get if off of them--we will be 66 F degrees today with rain coming in.
I never could made a good biscuit either-which drove me crazy since I can bake all sorts of yeast breads. I did find a really good biscuit recipe from an old James Beard bread book that works really well for me.
the pineapple cider was good-the pineapple flavor came through well
      Happy new week hugs

    1. Yes the lake gives us these lovely lake views and sunrises and also full moons really nice. I really need to get back to this spinning project-I am getting older and would like to get a garment woven too that I can wear.
wow sorry about empty shelves-we have had eggs and dairy here pretty much every time I go shopping-I only shop every 3-4 weeks though.

  11. I love that you are getting back to your spinning. The colors are just gorgeous. It's exciting to read some gardening plans in this post. I wondered if you would be starting seed in jugs again this year. I hope you had another great day there. It was a warm 70 degrees here but mostly cloudy. I love walking the trail without my heavy coat.

    1. wow 70 degrees that's nice. we were mid 60's so that's pretty nice too. I bought more creeping thyme seeds for ground cover-I got 17 bottles planted, it looks like I may have close to that again tomorrow-I bought 25,000 small seeds-last year I planted 20,000.sounds like allot but the seeds are much cheaper in bulk and they are really tiny seeds.
It feels good to be spinning again, I had set myself up to spin this past winter but I just didn't get to it-didn't feel all that great during this bitter cold. I also dug out a bag of white roving that is made up of usa long wools-that is now spinning well too-forgot how much I love the feel of wool-over bamboo fibers.
I need to get out walking again even if I don't walk up these steep hills here which are a bit much for my bad knee to handle. I can walk on the road that leads out to the highway which is more flat. I miss that at the woods house I was was walking 3 miles a day
we have warm weather again tomorrow and then warm weather wednesday but with allot of rain-we'll see they keep changing it haha

  12. What a lovely photo of the lake (and the sailing boat), so tranquil.
I'm so glad you are having better weather. Spring is on its way. I hope it will chango here soon too. I'm fed up with grey and cloudy. Not like Spain at all. We normally have sunny weather all through the year.
I love the orange color of the wool.
Interesting to see the difference in rising of the bread. Your food looks absolutely delicious!
    Happy T-Day,
    Keep smiling,

  14. Love the roving, I too have so many things not finished or not even started. I don't know where all the time disappears too, but I really want to make an effort to get things done, so I need to work out a way to be more productive (probably cancel netflix lol) Your yarn looks lovely and smooth, mine is always knobbly lol. Happy T Day! Elle/EOTC xx

    1. Yes remembering that I am in my mid 70's now there is no time to waste for all of my spinning and weaving projects-and more My spinning has much improved-finally- but it is still thick and thin and parts a bit over spun. I enjoy my drop spindle more than figuring out my wheel haha Happy T

  15. What fun to be on the lake and enjoy the sailing. It's fabulous to see that you've started your weaving again and the colours of your yarn are beautiful ☺️. Loving all your bakes, those biscuits look delicious. I've just found out one of my friends is gluten free now so if you would recommend any recipe books or online sites or even recipes it would be much appreciated. Also many apologies for not visiting recently, had lots of family stuff to sort out. I hope you are keeping well and wishing you a very Happy T Day! Hugs, Jo x

  21. How lovely to read of weather good enough to be back in the garden. Great to know that you have a plan for more spinning and weaving. Loving the lake pics. Your food all looks delicious- I often wonder what biscuits and gravy is like to eat - biscuits look like a bigger version of a scone that we would eat here spread with butter, or adding cream and jam. Belated Happy T Day, hugs, Chrisx ps I think we could all do with some Original Sin in our lives ;-D

    1. Good morning Chirs, You are not late for T at all-I just visited your post this morning. it does feel good to be spinning again. I was going through weaving magazines that I have saved looking for pattern ideas on what I want to weave with the yellowstone colors-a rauna or poncho of some sort.
the biscuits are heavier than a scone-mine baked up so big that I cut mine in half before adding the gravy-this is a real treat for us. Happy T hugs

  22. I love the color of the roving and am impressed by your spinning, Kathy. How lovely! And hearing of your temps and seeing a sailboat on water? Oh my! We're having an ice storm here... it seems like we'll never see that kind of thing again. But it won't be long.

I just saw that on the news that the upper midwest is getting an ice storm-those are the worse-stay safe hope your power stays on we had rain all day today instead-
