T Stands for Tuesday-Gardening

A little Spring has finally arrived here at the lake, although we are still in the low 30's f most evenings and sometimes in the 20's f

The lilac bushes are greening up, ground covers are blooming, and the neighbors on either side of us were both here this last weekend.

It's also time for a link up with friends over at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's T for Tuesday. Just share a drink related photo to join in.

I made a trip to the Amish farm of the Zimmerman's just outside of Versailles, Mo the city I do food shopping in last Friday. I was surprised to see a new building for a store and also a large greenhouse. The day I visited was very cold so I had both places all to my self. I just mostly visited the greenhouse this trip. Her plants were lovely and I picked up several. Chocolate mint-which I love, Orange mint, lavender plant, salvia, sage, pineapple sage-which one year grew into a small bush for me with lovely little red flowers. Also a phlox ground cover, a few petunias to plant into two small planters, and two geraniums to place into a planter.  Late Sunday I got everything planted except for the phlox. In the mail on Saturday I got three small hummingbird mint plants that I learned about from one of my blog and slow mail friends.  I was not familiar with this one but looking up the plant online the flowers are  really lovely. I hope these make it as they looked pretty small

  a few photos

This first photo from online and from the seller I purchased from is the hummingbird mint plant in bloom-attracts hummingbirds and butterflies

The name for this plant is Agastache kudos coral hyssop

and here are the three I just planted

I will just share a few of the photos-this is the two mints and sage-the mints will make a nice ground cover along this edge, and will be easy to harvest as well.

The new lavender plant-her plants were so healthy and good size too-very happy with the plants I bought. She is always so friendly and helpful too. I forget that she sells her fresh eggs so I need to start stopping by her store more-and she will have fruits and veggies for canning as well.

I picked up a bag of these naturalizer daffodils last year fall, and we have enjoyed the blooms for over two weeks now do to the cool temperatures, these will spread. In front of this old tree stump and large chunk of rock, is where I planted the hummingbird mint plants. I will place my large copper kettle on top of this stump and fill it with soil and plants.

Does anyone know what this ground cover is? This is on the edge of our property beyond the above photo. It is the area I was cleaning up last year and ended up with that horrible poison ivy and poison oak. It is so pretty now I am going to leave it and it is trailing down the hill which is nice too.

I made a really delicious tea last week. I had picked up a bag of dried elderberries and decided to pair it with a loose tea I had-so delicious.

Below cup is another handmade porcelain cup that our pottery friend-from years ago made. It is fun to drink tea out of it

That's it for me this week. I will leave you with this lovely sunrise from a couple of weeks ago.

  2. Wow, you have made great progress! I am anxious to get my new plants which are due to ship this week. I am going to be careful about ordering when they basically say we will ship when we think it is time. I pulled up a lot of weeds this weekend- chickweed and dead nettle and a couple of others that I don’t know names for. Rain tomorrow will probably keep me inside,, but I probably need the rest. I am still not back to where I was before my sickness. And, I put out two hummingbird feeders. I enjoy heavy pottery type cups for beverages.

    1. I have done pretty well buying on etsy and ebay-but I did lose allot of plants from last year. and also the herb roots I planted many haven't come up so I need to contact that seller soon.
This area I planted in has allot of weeds I need to clear out-they actually look like some sort of ground cover. we are suppose to get rain tonight and tomorrow too.
we have squirrel problems from feeding seeds for the birds-am hoping those squirrels do not bother the hummingbird feeders I will put out soon.
do rest and take care of You-hugs

    1. Hi Angie, there are some areas in the States here that have been getting snow too-I hope we don't get real cold again.
Yes the white tea herb blend is really nice

  5. Your tea sounds so good. We are nowhere near the planting stage yet. We got a light coating of snow over night we will have to wait for late April mid may for veggies. I planted lots of daffodils last fall I can not wait to see them this spring.

  6. Happy early T day Kathy. Isn't it exciting to see plants popping up out of the ground and plants coming out in greenhouses? I think those little flowers might be something called periwinkle, but I'm not 100% certain. We have those around my area, and I have seen them before. And daffodils are one of my favorites. Still awhile before mine bloom. So I get to see yours. Your tea sounds great too. I like the taste of elderberry. And good for you also. I hope you have a great T day, even if I am a bit early. Hugs-Erika

  10. Hi Kathy such a cheerful post. It sounds like spring has come to your part of the country. I think the hummingbird mint is gorgeous. Will be on the lookout to see if it will grow here in zone 5. I think your ground cover is a vinca. They make such a pretty spreading plant. Hope you continue to enjoy spring and all it brings. Hugs!

I am into pretty ground covers now-instead of grass

  11. I have lots and lots of vinca vine in my yard, so I will take a photo if and when it blooms and we can compare it to yours. The green leaves are surprise lilies/naked ladies, but I'm sure you knew that.

Nice you got some really healthy plants. They sure look healthy. My chocolate mint died last year when I allowed it to go one day without water. My orange and pineapple mint should come back, though.

Your strawberry guava white tea sounds wonderful. I bet it tasted great, too. Nice that you were able to pair it with the elderberries. That's a lovely cup, too.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful new plants, your sunrise, and your tea blend with us for T this week, Kathy.

    1. Hi Elizabeth, yes I was really really happy with these plants, large and very healthy. I love chocolate mint and was hoping to find some again. mints make great ground covers too-so thinking I may buy more for that too. I had a pineapple mint at the woods home that I really like-I was dry a bunch of these mints for teas.
the white tea was really nice and loved it with the dried elderberries.
      Happy T

  14. I love Agastache, I had the pink one and it was gorgeous. Unfortunately it is reather short lived, at least in my climate zone. As so many said, that is vinca - quite invasive here. I usually rip it out when I see it in my yard, it comes over from my neighbor's yard, it crowds out native plants and I don't like that. Hopefully it behaves better in your area. I have two native elderberries in my garden (Sambucus mexicana), I love that this variety doesn't need much water and it provides food for the birds. Oh, pineapple sage - yes, I grow that as a perennial and the red flowers are such a magnet for hummingbirds. They go crazy over them. I just love everything you're doing in your yard.

    1. I am excited about this new to me plant-if it is touch over winter here I may need to mulch it well. the vinca is in a spot that will be ok, and I think this patch came from my neighbor too as I see a bunch over there.
Here in Missouri driving down the rural roads there are allot of wild elderberries I just never thought about collecting my own. I decided these dried berries made into tea is much less expensive than buying the syrup and tastes so good too.
thanks for the information about the elderberries. one year I grew a bush of pineapple sage from a tiny plant-so lovely and yes the hummers love the flowers.
thank you so much-I think this will turn into a fun and beautiful project in the end

  15. So much to admire when it comes to those of you who do such prolific gardening! I was especially interested in the hummingbird mint. Perhaps I can find some in one of our local nurseries (not that I'd be able to keep it alive and thriving very long- lol).

Chocolate mint??? Oh! That sounds yummy, my sweet tooth wakes up! Oh, all the others as well - here we don´t have that! (Not that I know of - I´ll ask at the nursery!)

  21. So nice to see Spring. The daffodils looks so pretty in that rustic setting. I love them naturalized all over the place. The ground cover looks like Vinca. I love elderberry tea. I just steep the berries and never thought of mixing them in with loose tea. Happy T Day

To answer your question from last week, I use Noodler's Ink in my pen. I have the brown. It was purchased off of Amazon.
Your tea sounds delicious. A great way to include elderberries in your diet.

    2. If you are asking about the ground cover with the purple? I used to have it, and it might be alyssum. I can't wait to see how your plants do that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. I had never heard of that. One of my best friends is a Zimmerman. :) Happy belated t day.

    3. Hi Sharon, this ground cover turns out to be vinca or periwinkle The flowers are very pretty blue-and says will bloom til June-I like that. I had cleared that area of weeds last year so it is looking really nice now. I want to get rid of all this grass-we will enjoy lots of flowering plants much better. yes if you do a search for your area where you live about what plant attract hummingbirds and bees and butterflies it will list both annuals and perennials
This Zimmerman family is huge outside of Versailles Mo with many different types of business's I was glad to find she has this new greenhouse for plants and a new larger store for selling foods mostly
      Happy T hugs
