T Stands for Tuesday

Good morning everyone, Time for T where we gather with friends over with our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth to share a post with our drink reference.

I almost didn't join in today, but I am up in the middle of the night and decided to post.
I did get a couple masks made last week-once you make one they are pretty easy but I had such a hard time getting a first one made-as the two instructions I had followed first had errors in them and I just couldn't visualize these. My friend referred me to Joann Fabrics site where they have several videos of different styles.
This was for sure a recycled project-I have kept bags of elastic and sewing tapes that came from my Grandma's and then Mom's sewing rooms and I had saved in my fabrics a cotton skirt that I made back in the 60's (back when we wore dresses and skirts and blouses) I saved this because it was sort of an oriental print but the cotton was soooo soft-this was back in the day when there were fabric stores to make clothes.
I also grabbed a pretty brown t shirt back that I had cut up which I have not made into a mask yet

all photos will enlarge just click on them In the first one you can see my coffee cup to the left

I ended up making two of these

I am in the same mindset as Kate mentioned last week not to wear one. We don't see anyone, and I only go food shopping every 14 days or so mostly for fresh foods, and I am careful to wipe down surfaces with clorox wipes and to wash up well when I get home.  But I decided to make a couple mostly to keep from touching my face in the store.  These do not really protect you from the virus.

I was finally much less stressed last week- that was until Sunday.
I was in my sewing room figuring out these masks and Larry was working in the garage as we finally got some nicer weather.  When I finished I figured I would enjoy the sunshine and burn more leaves.  That's when I learned that Larry had an accident getting a heavy tool cabinet out of the trailer-by himself. The wheel must have caught in the grate in front of the garage (to carry away rainwater) and he fell with the cabinet on top of him.  He did get up and get the tool cabinet into the garage. I have been reminding him to carry a cellphone with him so he can call me if he needs to and he didn't  (we don't use these so something we don't think of-we do throw it in the car for emergencies) He wanted to give this a couple days-he has a major groin injury of some sort and we need to figure out how to get an xray. He can barely walk-I have been pushing him around in his desk chair. I am going to see if I can get an evisit today and see what we can do. With this virus around I do not think that hospitals are safe for him for right now.
So healing prayers requested.  and with the weather warming up I had hoped he could finally go fishing and we have so much to do at the woods house to get it ready to sell. Trivial things to worry about right now.

Last Saturday I made sourdough biscuits and gravy. I made a batch for Larry and then used the sourdough starter for a batch for me with gluten free flours. These breads are not making me sick (celiac) and this one baked up and tasted like real bread-a first

gluten free batch

Wheat batch

I did take a photo of one of our plates with the sausage gravy and two eggs-but for some reason starting with that photo the photos will not upload off my camera.
These past few weeks when microsoft/windows upgrades it has messed up our photos. First it no longer will delete the photos off our cameras-I finally figured out how to do that off the camera itself, now since the weekend the photos will not upload from my camera to the computer-so of course I won't be able to share photos now til we figure out what is going on.
I almost have the feeling that computer programs are not going to support much except smartphones since that is the majority now. One of my banks online wouldn't let me sign on for over a day-thought that was really strange so scrolled all the way down to the bottom of the page looking for customer service and found they had a seperate link for signing on with a desk top computer (at the bottom of the page for this).
Not happy about this new change.

One evening last week I made our first batch of mango margaritas for 2020. When I had food shopped a couple weeks ago they had these huge mangos-so had to buy one

Closing with a couple lake views last Saturday

When we look to the far right of our deck-that area always has lots of boats

Happy T everyone

  1. Hi Kathy, sorry to hear about your husband's accident, and hope you get help soon. All the best from me. I have made loads of masks and given them to elderly neighbours who feel safer with them, I only wear one if I have to go into a store.
Your cooking looks good, I have mostly been living of veggie soup and yogurt! Stay safe, happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  2. I like your masks and do they do give a sense of security to others when you are out. We are all in this together. And good for you to have elastic. I have tons of sewing supplies but of course, no elastic. And your mango margarita looks delicious. Hope you have a great T day. Hugs-Erika

  4. Oh no! Hope Larry will be able to heal up without much medical intervention. Definitely not a great time for needing a hospital visit.

So many creative ways of making masks, many that don't require sewing, which is the route I would need to take. But, I only go out for walks sometimes, so don't feel the need to wear one. My husband is working half days and does the grocery shopping since he is already running around.

    That mango margarita sounds scrumptious.
    Take care.

  5. Kathy, sorry to hear of Larry’s accident! He needs help especially so soon after his heart surgery. I hope you can find it safely! Nice lake photos. For you and anyone else who needs a mask but doesn’t have one, there are two ways to make one in a minute with no curing or sewing. Check out this page:

  7. Oh I'm so sad to hear about Larry's accident. You must be so worried. A groin injury sounds like a hernia, especially since he was moving something heavy. I hope he can get help soon, in a safe way.
Well done you for making a mask. We have to wear one when out in the streets. I also have one in the car. I forgot to wear it when I went inside the supermarket and the staff didn't say anything. They just told me to wear gloves.
I hope you get your computer glitches sorted out. I understand what you mean about desktop computers being pushed into the background. I must admit I use my iPad and iPhone for everything except blogging. That is the only reason I still have a desktop. Blogspot does not work with anything Apple.
Your mango margherita and your sour dough bread both look very yummy. Erika had a Margherita in her blog too. I have never had one. (Okay, I know I haven't lived!).
Happy T-Day, (I won't tell you to stay at home. As Iris says: we are not children and yes, we got the message.)
    Hugs,
    Lisca

    1. yes I think we are all getting tired of being told to stay home-we don't get out that much anyways but we are so isolated that this keeps us from our friends.
I enjoy my big screen for my desk top computer-I would not enjoy being on the computer on those tiny smartphones.
margaritas are my favorite drink after wine. and homemade is the best-I just put the spirits in, lime juice, agave, a little water and lots of ice and whirl it up in the blender

    2. Lisca,
Just an FYI, I’ve used blogspot for years on my iPad with no Apple problems. Hope ou get that worked out.

  8. Oh no Larry!!! He sounds very much like my stubborn husband... I hope everything checks out okay Kathy.. He's on blood thinners isn't he? I'd be worried about that too.. Please take care and let us know how hes doing..

We are tired of wearing face masks too.. and if we feel we can keep proper distances we don't wear one.. I see some people wear them but the majority of the people i see don't .. Hugs! deb

  9. I like that you mentioned that these masks do not really protect us from the virus. In my opinion, many people do not know that.
I love the photo of margaritas, I need to make them too!

Have a lovely day and stay safe 🤗

  10. So sorry to hear about Larry. I had to make my masks from folded bandanas and hair ties. I couldn't find hair ties so ordered some loops to make potholders. The purpose of the mask isn't to protect you from Covid, but to protect others if you happen to cough or sneeze. The idea being the mask will cut down the rate of droplets spewed into the air. New thinking is that the droplets can spread up to 27 feet away.

Your biscuits look so tasty. I think I'd like one or two slathered in butter with a cup of tea. I'd sit on your deck and watch the lake. Thanks for sharing your scenery with us. Happy T Day

  12. Hello my friend-yes I'm praying. None of your concerns are trivial. They all seem monumental during this crisis-I know because we have been in that place too. It's scary. The smaller things seem to loom bigger because of all this strangeness. I hope your hubby can get help over the internet.
When I made masks for my son and his wife a few weeks ago I just bawled my eyes out. I couldn't believe I was making a mask for my only child (almost 30 now!) in a pandemic, with him 6 hours away from us. It struck terror in my heart. I just wanted to grab him and hold him safe. I get enotional just writing about it. I wish this was all a very bad dream. Take care my friend.

  13. I like your masks. I'm going to wear my jerry-rigged bandana mask when I go to the grocery later. (I haven't been to the store in 3 weeks, and it's time. My list is a mile long lol) I have allergies and keep a seasonal cough. Maybe the mask will help prevent any accidental results of my cough from spreading past my mask and sleeve. I've heard they're better than nothing when they have several layers and include a filter, but not by much depending on how they're made. We have to do the best we can, though, since the masks that do work are unavailable :(

I'm so sorry about Larry's injury and pray he'll have an uncomplicated recovery. It's harder these days to take care of issues like that :(

Your biscuits and that drink look tasty. Happy T Tuesday!

  14. I am really sorry to read about Larry's accident. This is NOT trivial, and I sincerely hope he can get the e-help he needs without going to the hospital or a doctor's office. He's definitely in my thoughts.

I applaud you on making your masks. I looked high and wide in my sewing for elastic, but had none. I designed my mask but it was a disaster. REAL disaster when I wore it. Because I have no elastic, I went an alternate route, which was ALSO a disaster. Took me FIVE days, too. It was fraught with disaster after disaster as I had to work on it hoping I didn't break my next to last machine needle I own. This was a GREAT recycle project on your part and I applaud you, Kathy.

BTW, I wear my "disaster" when I go outside. I also wear gloves. I'm scared to death of this virus. My friends think I'm paranoid. I tell them better to be paranoid than dead.

Your biscuits look good. So does your margarita, even though I don't indulge in alcohol. As I've said before, I'm not a prud and have nothing against drinking, I can practically just smell the stuff and get drunk. I've had several people tell me if I ever want to go on a bender, they will pay, because half a glass and I would be under the table!!

Thanks for sharing your tales from the lake this week, as well as your lovely photos with us for T this Tuesday. Please keep us updated on Larry's condition.

Almost forgot to mention that, after reading about yours and others blogger photo disasters this week, I'm thrilled to tears I do not have Microsoft Windows in any form on my computer.

    1. don't feel bad I had a really difficult time making the first mask-I was so upset with myself over it. they are pretty simple really once you make one.
I can't drink alcohol much either-I don't put much alcohol in these margaritas they are mostly mango. I am glad to know I am not the only one that can't upload photos-and I have no clue at all on how to fix that what a bummer

  15. so sorry about Larry. I hope you are able to get him some care and attention.Good job on the masks! I don't have any more elastic to use but I could figure something else out if someone needed one. here in PA- and in my area it is now required for EVERYONE to wear a mask- workers, shoppers, and all!! My hubby is not at all happy about it as he needs to wear reading/safety glasses for the work he does:(.
Your special drink looks very inviting and refreshing! Hope all goes well for everyone. Happy T day!

  17. Wow! I'm sorry to hear about hubby ~ I think he needs an x-ray soon, that sounds very painful. Your margarita sounds wonderful right about now. I love the oriental mask, very pretty. Enjoy the lake and the sun ~ sending blessings and well wishes your way!

  18. Your mask came out beautifully. I LOVE the fabric that you chose. What a great way to re-purpose old clothes.
Your sourdough biscuits looks great. Do you just use starter with wheat and add it into GF flour for the dough? I would like to try this.
So sorry to hear about your hubby's mishap. Life is a mess when you are afraid of going to the hospitals. I do hope that you are able to get care because if he cannot walk, that is a problem. Hoping your virtual visit is helpful.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

    1. thank you I always loved this fabric and wore the skirt allot way back then. Yes I just started doing this and so far haven't gotten sick-just don't over do it-just one biscuit for only a day or two. the birds get the leftovers haha yes I have a rye starter and a regular white flour start that I keep in the refrigerator and then after I add the sourdough to my bowl-then make the recipe with gluten free flour.
life is a mess right now-I spent all morning getting no help so will need to figure how to get him in somewhere for the xray they wouldn't do an e visit-said he has to have an xray sigh

  19. I have elastic envy, Kathy. I ran out and can't get any more.

I'm sending healing prayers for Larry. I pray he doesn't need surgery.

How do you upload photos from your camera, Kathy? I still prefer a real camera. Call me old fashioned too ;-) I usually upload photos using the camera memory card. My techie husband showed me another way - with a USB cord. The camera should have a little door with a "pitchfork" symbol (for want of the correct term) on it. Pop the door open. Plug the pointy end of a USB connector into the hole behind the door. Then plug the flat end directly into a slot on (or connected to) your computer. Now you should be able to find your camera in File Explorer; then copy the photos from the camera to your Pictures folder on the computer. [My hubby would laugh himself silly if he ever reads this.] I hope this is helpful.

    Happy T-Day! Eileen xx

    1. hello Eileen, I shared some with a blog friend that lives in new york and discovered I only had a package and a half of the right size elastic-so sent her the extra and keeping the rest of the package to make another one or two.
Yes I have always uploaded photos from digital camera that way-a cord from my camera to the computer-but microsoft windows has been messing up this process with their upgrade-have no idea what to do now sigh

  20. Oh dear, hope your hubby will heal quickly. Maybe he will feel better if you can get him to sit down, take in that gorgeous lake view, and have another Margarita!
Joking aside though, if something is torn it isn't a good idea to let it go. I know hospitals seem scary right now, but it may be worth the risk to prevent worse damage. I have to say your biscuits look wonderful! i have been trying to limit baking so we won't gain weight around here, but it's a struggle! Take care!

    Your baking looked delicious Kathy.
Stay safe and I hope you both look after yourselves.

  23. Well done for getting the masks completed! We are not wearing make as we don't come into contact with anyone - although a delivery man did come quite close the other day...Aaagh! Men can be quite stubborn at times - so sorry Larry is suffering now - I hope you can get an e-visit - definitely a safer option! There seems to be quite a lot of activity on the lake! Take care, Belated Happy T day! Chrisxx
