T Stands For Tuesday & Hodge Podge Week

I am posting early for Elizabeth's T for Tuesday (see link on side bar if I don't get back with the link in post)

I will be gone all day on Tuesday-doing taxes and then some fun shopping-and I am hoping to get more texture put up on the bathroom walls tomorrow and want to stay focused on that.(Monday)  I just have not found my muse to finish that project-and I want to so I can paint it-finally lol and then play with getting rocks up on the walls later in the week. I am on jury duty call for 3 months which ends early May-so that is on my mind if I will have free time or not.

Wow it has just been so windy here since March 1st-our March here in the Ozarks-Missouri definately came in like a  lion-so hoping April comes in like a lamb.

On Wednesday March 1st and also the day before I fast walked my virtual 5 k Yellowstone marathon The monies went to support Yellowstone Park.
Since early January, I have been on a mission to lose at least 10 pounds before next fall comes around. I did allot of walking in the house on the cold days and then when I saw this marathon I was hooked-lol 5k is a little over 3 miles-we marked it out on our property and very doable for me.
A month ago when I first started it took me an hour and 45 minutes to complete On race day I had cut it down to an hour and a couple minutes-excited about that. I have finally lost 3 pounds, clothes still too tight but I am beginning to feel stronger.
I also signed up for a virtual race in April which supports the National Parks. Keeps me motivated.

A friend and I are planning our trip more now for Yellowstone in May-we are getting quite excited too. We rented a room with a full kitchen so thinking about the foods we want to bring-and what to buy when we get there. May will be here before I know it for sure

On another note, this morning I got one of the raised beds watered well (we have had hardly any rain at all here or snow) and added in some of my compost-I planted half of it with some spring greens and beets and radishes. It got so cold and windy again that I needed to stop. Hope to finish the other side tomorrow for a few spring veggies.

For my Yellowstone trip I needed to buy a new camera as my old one no longer holds a charge for long-I just kept it plugged in. So I bought a Cannon PowerShot and I need to learn how it all works. Charging the battery is totally different in this one-I need to take the battery out of the camera put it in this box that plugs into the wall-lol what a hassle-and when I charged the battery it took two photos and then no more battery-so not happy at all. In the instructions it says when not using the camera to take the battery out of the camera--I think this is odd-do any of you have this camera?? I am going to see if I can find this battery to purchase so I have a spare-don't want to run out of battery in Yellowstone-
I brought this up as yesterday evening we had allot of deer come by for corn-a couple groups including a handsome 7 point buck that I wanted to take a photo of-so sigh no photos to share in this post.

The other evening I dug out my very very large cast iron skillet and made a homemade pizza with a yeast crust for hubby and a friend. I made a gluten free version for me that I baked on red tiles--they both turned out delicious.
Speaking of cast iron and dutch oven cooking and/or baking-I decided to start posting recipes and information on Friday's-if you enjoy your cast iron too for cooking and baking indoors or outdoors-please join me My goal is to get into baking more things this summer-fall

I have been waiting for my favorite authors to release new books-so decided to dig out the Twilight books and re read them-again lol  I love these books for some reason-while reading I need to remind myself that Bella is in high school and that's why she acts the way she does sometimes--but I really do enjoy these books.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

  1. After five years of exceptional drought we are having tons of rain and snow. It is snowing now. Congraulations on walking off those unwanted pounds. Yellowstone will be here very soon for you. Happy "rocking" painting and shopping. <3

  2. I can't help you with the camera, Kathy, sorry. I spent years as a photojournalist with the old fashioned kind, you know the ones that used actual film which I would develop in my darkroom. Then I had my last baby (now 31), and never went back to picture-taking other than as a hobby with my cell phone. Good for you continuing to walk. Motivation is the key, and your national park focus has done that for you. It will be a fabulous adventure!

  3. I think you got a defective battery, I'd return it and get another one. I have a Panasonic Lumix that also has the battery charger where you take it out and put it into a box that plugs in the wall. I can take about 150 pictures on one battery charge, plus do the download to the computer. I think they only want you to take the battery out of the camera when you are going to store it for long periods of time, not if you are using it a lot.

  4. The wind has been bad here too :( I wanted to cut down the dead ornament grasses before the new growth gets much taller. The wind was blowing it everywhere as I cut so had to stop. I wanted to work outside today on building another raised bed with the old half rotted dead limbs we gathered a week ago but don't know if I'm up to arguing with the wind today. I'm having issues with my back again so having to be very careful and no walking for Mini and me.

  5. It's been incredibly windy here, too, Kathy. We have had fires, too. We had NO moisture in February, which was also the warmest on record. So, I believe our climates are quite similar, although you appear to live slightly farther south and east of me.

I agree that you probably have a defective camera battery. Since it's more than likely still under warranty, I would go back to the place you purchased it (if NOT online) and see what they can do for you. I had two Nikon's that wouldn't hold a charge, and after getting the first replacement, with the same problem, the store where I purchased it, offered to allow me credit for an upgrade. I had a Nikon similar to your Cannon PowerShot, which is handy when you want a small camera, but not good if you want a "real" camera. Although I couldn't afford a DSLR, I got the next best thing. The salesman was surprised when I was over the moon with happiness when I learned my new Nikon took 4 AA batteries. Since I'm into saving the earth, and using rechargeable batteries, I couldn't have been happier. It may be bulkier, heavier, and more cumbersome, since it's not an auto focus camera per se, but it takes excellent photos, and I get about 500 shots before I have to change the batteries.

Thanks for joining us for T this week. Congrats on your weight loss and 5 K run completion, too.

  6. Congratulations on your walking! I'm so trying to convince myself how much fun I would have walking or biking. I spent way too much time this weekend sewing. Great fun, but I know it's not good to spent two days sitting on my b$tt.

You're inspiring me to get moving. Thank you so much for sharing and for providing such inspiration.

    Aloha,
    Hunter

  7. way to go on your walking challenges! Your cast iron skillet pizzas sound really good. I've often contemplated buying one.
I have a Canon PowerShot A4000IS and do the same to recharge the battery. It's OK. Hubby wanted to buy me a more expensive camera (he's a really GOOD photographer) but I still don't even know how to change many of the settings on this one. I've never had any problems though so perhaps something is defective with yours? Good luck with it. Happy T day!

  8. I love this idea of doing virtual walks to support parks. I am all about National parks. When do you go to Yellowstone? Did I miss that in your post-if I did I apologize. I am jealous. Yellowstone is a cool place. Happy T day. Hugs-Erika

    1. Good morning Erika, finally on the computer today. I love the parks too-this is a huge deal for me-my first ever vacation since living at home as a kid with my parents and siblings-we went somewhere every year back then. a neighbor friend and I are going in mid May and staying in the park for 7 days-first time for both of us-can't wait.
      Happy T day Kathy

  10. It's a good time of year to start the habit of walking. Our weather is just gorgeous right now so I have to take advantage of it since winter is over, spring has arrived and will be short-lived before the summer heat sets in. Sounds like you have a lot going on to keep you busy. Have a good week.

  15. Hello from T Stands for Tuesday.
    Congrats on your weight loss.
Here in northern VA it is very dry and part of that is due to the strong winds we've been having.
Hope you get your camera sorted out.
Sounds like you have lots going on.
    Happy T Day

  17. Congrats on your walking success! I like to walk but don't like the cold so I end up not walking in the winter :( Maybe a treadmill might work for me or membership at a basic gym. I admire your sticktoitiveness :)

    Happy T Tuesday!

  18. Good for you on the 5k, Kathy! I've been working to get in shape as well. It feels wonderful when the clothes get less tight but even better that I can now do things I hadn't done for years (or ever - like 60 push-ups a day)!

I bought a Canon PowerShot G7X about a year ago. I hardly ever use it. My old Canon GX7 takes way better photos on auto than the new one. [I only wanted to replace the GX7 because the f wheel (or whatever you call it) doesn't work anymore.] I too am disappointed with the PowerShot.

There's definitely a problem with your battery. What you describe isn't right. A full charge should last a prettty long time - maybe months (depending on how much you use it).

As far as having to remove the battery: that doesn't bother me. I have an extra and keep the extra charged and in the charger. When the battery in camera is low, I switch batteries and plug the dead one in to charge, then stash it in my desk drawer for when needed.

Happy T-day, Kathy! Did I miss your beverage for T? Darn, I was thirsty too ;-) Hugs, Eileen

    1. Good morning Eileen, and Happy T day on a thursday lol This week is going so fast that just now getting to the computer.
Thanks for the information on the camera-I did contact the ebay seller and she is sending me out a new battery-so hoping that is all it is.
and you are soooo right I forgot my beverage-oh wow-it is so late in the week now I will make sure to do that next week-so glad you mentioned it.
Have an awesome rest of the week Kathy

  19. Congratulations on your weight loss. I am trying to lose weight too with walking. I have a tracker (Fitbit) and I virtual walk the Camino Frances with 'walking4fun.com'. I'm not overly impressed with the camino. It's beginning to get boring. I did the Wonderland Trail and the Craterlake trail before doing this one.
That battery does not sound very good. I have a new Sony Cybershot (bought last month) and I bought a spare battery for it. I can charge it in the camera with a cable or in a purpose built charger. It takes hundreds of photos on one charge. I hope you get this sorted soon.
Enjoy reading Twilight. I have read them once and really liked them. I have recently bought The Host by Stephany Meyer, but haven't read it yet.
    Happy T-Day,
    Lisca

    1. Hi Lisca, sorry just now getting back on to the computer
Glad to read you are walking too we can keep us each motivated-the virtual running club is all online and you walk anywhere you want to even on equipment-they help to raise money for worthwhile causes and in return you can get a tshirt, medal, race bib-kinda fun
I did figure out it is the battery and the ebay seller is sending me a new one-so happy about that.
I have read Twilight several times now and enjoy it each time. Her Host is really good too although I had a difficult time getting past the first couple of chapters-it is a good book too totally different.
      thanks for dropping by
