Am posting again on Sunday, which is actually Monday for our overseas friends. It continues to be very very cold here-in the low 20's for highs both evenings and during the day. brrrr Needless to say I haven't gone any where food shopping except online-smiles. We will begin a bit of a warm up on Monday.
This post is for T Stands for Tuesday hosted by Bleubeard and Elizabeth-please find link in my sidebar, you are most welcome to join in just share a drink related photo.
We are early risers, always have been, so just as it gets light we throw out a mixed song bird seed mix on to the deck railing and a bit on the floor. Throwing it out early gives the birds a chance before the squirrels decide to come in and eat it all-sigh. We are enjoying watching the birds drop in and also we can view the sun as it rises for the day.
A few days last week we have seen pelicans flying about, one day they stuck around to fish for food. We see flocks of them in the early spring, some will winter over here and then they all move on in the spring. I needed to really zoom in to capture a photo as they were on the other side of the lake or in the middle. I wasn't able to capture a photo of them flying-hunting for fish. I found this very interesting article about the pelicans here at the lake in the ozarks, and how they fish as a group. The way the group hunts for the fish was interesting to me.
This past week I have been drinking cups of teas and one evening made hot cocoa from my mix from last year
That's it for me this week. I have started working on my handmade Christmas cards over the weekend, always fun for me to do, and I finally have it designed out for this year's cards. If any of you would enjoy swapping Christmas cards send me a message on the contact form (side bar) with your address.
Happy T and have an awesome new week and those that celebrate: Thanksgiving Blessings
Hi Kathy! So good to hear from you! I have been missing from the internet for a little while.. But i love catching up with you... This morning we are at 38 degrees and thats pretty much our high point for the day.. I see a little bit of snow flurries on the map coming our way.. fingers crossed , would love to see a little snow... doesn't happen often down here.. How cool to see Pelicans in a place other than the ocean! Sorry to hear about Larry's cup.. Yes those cups are very popular now.. My nieces family actually makes and sells them.. and they customize the decoration of them.. They do alot for the local schools etc.. I'am probably one of the few people anymore that do not like to drink out of a travel mug.. or a coffee to go cup from a restaurant. i just always seem to have a hole in my lip or not get the lid on tight and i make a mess.. lol LOVE that Yellowstone mug with the map inside.. gorgeous! I did miss your collage fodder post.. I'll go read that next.. Take care.. stay warm! Tomorrow we start to come out of the cold.. Big Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteHi Deb, I don't care for most coffee commuter mugs, I think it is mostly the plastic I don't drink out of plastics hardly ever. this stainless steel mug is really really nice and really holds the temperature for a long time..
Deletethanks I love this yellowstone mug too, I bought two of them in case I broke one. we have had snow around us but not here at the lake so far, but the bitter temps are a bit early for this area. warm up begins tomorrow here too. hugs
Happy Thanksgiving Kathy! It's always fun to visit your blog....I love the pelicans!
ReplyDeleteThank you Debra the pelicans are always so fun to watch
DeleteI am an early riser too. Wish I had such a beautiful place to watch the sunrise. That hot cocoa looks so warming and good. Have a wonderful week ahead!
ReplyDeleteHi Angie, we have really enjoyed the early morning views here at the lake. when we lived in the woods we loved watching the wildlife but never saw the sky much from indoors in the house-just the way the house was laid out. Happy new week-hugs
DeleteNice mug. Beautiful view of the lake. Tea! That sounds perfect.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week
thank you-hoping for a good week for you too
DeleteYes,It is time to start thinking about Christmas cards!
ReplyDeleteyes it is I usually start around now, get the international ones mailed just after thanksgivng
DeleteSo nice to see pelicans. It is several years since I saw any now. And I miss it!
ReplyDeletewe have really been enjoying watching them-so fun, and the eagle pair were sitting together today too-this is the time of year we seem them often before go to nest
DeleteI always enjoy visiting with you here on the lake where there is never a lack of beautiful pictures. I love your Yellowstone mug. What fun to have the map inside. I am imagining how delicious your cocoa is, are those marshmallows on top? 😉 we are already tired of cold weather and are looking forward to this week’s warmup. Take care and enjoy the warmer week. Hugs Mary @ Hilltop Post
ReplyDeleteHi Mary , no actually I need to get some marshmallows for my hot cocoa, this is whipped cream-good too-smiles. I am not liking this long stretch of cold either-ready for the warm up too. enjoy your Thanksgiving week-hugs
DeleteOh, I need to buy a new feeding station for the little birds (otherwise the fat pigeons eat it away).
ReplyDeletePelicans, oh, wow. I once was chased by one, think I said that before. It was amazing how huge the bird was - and how fast.
Great story with the mug! So sad I cannot have coffee anymore.
Oh, I would love to join the the Christmas cards, but frankly... I do nothing more than the journal these days, I am exhausted.
It would not be fun but a burden, so I think I better skip.
Also... we do not celebrate Christmas.
As kid I didn´t like it and my Mum was very sick in 2001, passed on Dec 29th, as if she had to go through Christmas time so I have no excuse to not "celebrate"...
Not to end on a bad note here, though - have fun making the cards :-) and have a happy T-Day, 05:50 a.m. still dark, but, well, hugs!
I can't do caffeine anymore so I drink a good quality decaf coffee-I buy the beans and then grind them. sorry about the sadness of Christmas for you-hugs
DeleteI wish we had pelicans on the Rhine, that would be fun! Sunrise is alwsays my fave time of day. I lost my last mug, which was really good, but will look for the Thermos on Amazon. Happy T Day, have a great weekend, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletesunrises are just a nice way to start the new day too. we had so much fun watching the pelicans there are a couple out there right now too. Hoping you can get the thermos mug happy new week hugs
DeleteOhh yes the pelicans are always a nice sight. We have them here of course, living on the ocean. I will admit that Amazon is my go to place. Usually less expensive with free shipping and it gets here fast. I love this last photos. Have a great day today.
ReplyDeleteamazon is usually my go to shopping place too as they are usually less expensive with the free shipping and they take care of anything that might go wrong too. enjoy your day-hugs
DeleteI've been eating oatmeal for lunch many days now that it is cold. I love how it fills me up and keeps me going until dinner time. And wow. I always thought white pelicans were coastal birds until a few years ago. We don't get them here, so they must be fun to see. I hope you find a replacement mug for Larry. And that you have a lovely T day too, and week ahead. Stay warm. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteAnd have a lovely Thanksgiving also Kathy!
ReplyDeleteThank you Erika, I love a hot bowl of cereal too-I think it's healthy carbs too and usually warms me up on a cold day too Happy Thanksgiving
DeleteOh and yes the pelicans have been very fun to watch- several were here again today and the eagle pair is back too up in that tree outside our front window
DeleteThe birds are so pretty. I have tried many Tazo flavors but I have never had that cucumber flavor. I will have to look for it.
ReplyDeleteWe have Tervis mugs and Yeti's but I love the Yeti the best due to the magnetic closure on the lid. I have had tea stay hot overnight. I drink SO much tea but I don't like my taste buds burnt so I learned that not using the lid usually get my tea to the right temperature within 30 minutes. I have several cups going at once so I always have one that is the right temperature.
Hope you find the right mug for Larry.
Happy Tea Day and Thanksgiving,
Kate
thank you I will check out the yeti mugs. that's amazing that you have several different cups of teas going at the same time. this tazo was a little bland so I add a green tea bag to it. Happy T
DeleteLove that you get to see pelicans! Amazing. Happy T Day & Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon, yes they are so fun to watch-off season we see allot of different ducks etc on the lake. the eagle pair is back too Happy T
DeleteOh Pelicans! I have never seen those in the wild. We do have flamingos here but I haven't seen pelicans.
ReplyDeleteYou did good buying a Thermos. They are the best and the original brand. I might have to buy one for my husband who likes his drinks boiling hot and I'm forever heating drinks in the microwave (which will be expensive in the long run as mine is 1100 watt).
I had oatmeal for breakfast too. I have been able to get some maple syrup here and I like that in my porridge.
I hope you find the right mug for Larry.
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
yes thermos is the best for sure and I like stanley thermos too but sadly thermos is made in china now. my Mom always drank her coffee extremely hot too-he will love this coffee mug for sure.
DeleteI have not seen a flamingo, being here on the lake is the first I have seen the pelicans up close. I love maple syrup too in my oatmeal we have the real thing here too hugs
I love the pelicans. And the tea is making me think I should put the kettle on. I need to start on Christmas cards. The ones we ordered are being shipped and I found a couple of boxes I ordered but I do want to make a few and time is running out!
ReplyDeleteI usually start making my cards around now just before thanksgiving. hot tea has been really good lately with these cold temps
DeleteSo lovely to watch the birds and how wonderful to see the pelicans on your lake. It's really interesting how they catch their fish in groups, thanks for sharing, I would never have guessed 😊. Sounds like that's a great travel mug and I hope you find a suitable replacements for Larry soon. Stay warm and Happy T Day! Hugs Jo x
ReplyDeleteI found that fascinating too about the pelicans-the sea gulls do something similiar too. am still on the hunt for Larry's travel mug-Happy T hugs
DeleteA squirrel-proof bird feeder has a lot to recommend it ;) Pelicans are fascinating birds, aren't they! I think I recall you are a Christian, so you can also appreciate that bird as a Christian symbol. Happy T Tuesday!
ReplyDeletethank you I did not know about the Christian symbol so I looked that up thank you for that. and so sorry google still won't let me visit your blog-sigh
DeleteOur weather is a bit like yours so time to break out the flannels. A little bit of a warm up, too, this week. I enjoyed hearing your early morning routine. I have squirrel-proof feeders though I toss a bit on the ground for all the ground feeders. Lately, the birds have devoured the seed almost before I get back to the house! I hope that doesn't mean a brutal Winter. I hope you find Larry his travel mug, though I would have done the same thing and kept the one meant for Himself. 😺Happy T Day
ReplyDeletesmiles about the travel mug-I am still searching for him most of the reviews either have problems with the lids or one says the handle breaks off-ugh will keep looking. I am hoping too we don't have a rough winter Happy T
DeleteI agree with you that pelicans have an interesting way to feed. Two years ago I saw a group fo pelicans here and they were just doing that, hunting for food in a group in their very own special way. After I had seen it I researched it and was fascinated by it. The white pelicans are here only in the winter, but the brown ones stay year round.
ReplyDeletewe have always enjoyed watching the wildlife and the birds too-quiet season at the lake brings us something new every day. we just have these large white pelicans
DeleteHave a lovely Thanksgiving, Kathy!
ReplyDeletethank you so much
DeleteMy sincere apology for taking so long to visit. I finally realized I HAD to drag myself out of bed and see what you had offered for T this week. I'm definitely not a very good host, but I want you to know I greatly appreciate your visit and for linking this week.
ReplyDeleteI realize I promised to show your lovely card today, but I sincerely forgot. It is now photographed, opened, and on my Thanksgiving table. Thank you so much. I will show it on Thanksgiving and again during T next week. I PROMISE!
Thanks for sharing T with us this week and happy Thanksgiving.
take care of You please-no worries about sharing the card at all-it was meant for you hugs
DeleteBeautiful view.
ReplyDeleteSorry to be so late. After food shopping yesterday I only had time to write my post before going for meal and to see The Lion King at the theatre with my youngest son.You are so lucky seeing so much wild life. I don't like drinking out of travel mugs - I often burn my mouth. Have a great Thanksgiving,, hugs Chrisx
ReplyDeletethank you Chris, oh that sounds fun at the theater with your son. we really see allot of wildlife now with the boats finally off the water-nature takes over-we enjoy it so much this thermos does keep the beverage really hot hugs
DeleteStill looking after sick kitties, so I'm very late to the party. Happy T Day! Elle/EOTC xx
