Happy Weekend

Just popping in to say hello,

It has been a busy week. I made trips in to the woods home to begin the packing of Larry's scope shop business. It is allot of work-all the glass lenses need to be wrapped seperately and then placed into coin size paper envelopes.  There are Lots. Much to do there to get ready for a sale and we are headed back to the 90's again.

Since the person we hired to mow our lake house lawn-it is large-decided to not show up or even give us a call, I have been "mowing" tall thick grass with a weed eater-battery powdered. It works really well, just hard on the body working through 4 batteries at a time, which is around 3 hours. Slow going but getting there.

I got a surprise in my garden a couple days ago. An echinacea bloom-I am soooo happy to see it. Since this one is pink then it's one I planted from seed. Sadly the two roots I bought did not survive. I thought one did but so far no more blooms.

The perennial garden is winding down, but I do still have blooms and butterflies If you look near the lemongrass you will see a butterfly.
I was bummed last week I had forgotten to water, so the petunias in the big copper pot look pretty sad, but there are still a few blooms coming on. The deer continue to eat my geranium flowers and leaves. As soon as the plant recovers and blooms again-the deer eat it again  Oh well.

Have not taken any new photos, but we are very much enjoying seeing the eagle pair again-they have been very active-fishing on the lake, and singing up in that tree-such a blessing to be able to enjoy them.

One day this week I made a really delicious dish. I seasoned up and sliced thin a flat iron steak-than prepared it as for fajitas-but instead of shells-made beans and rice-sooo  good

Happy weekend

  1. Wow, you have been busy! It looks like you have lots to do getting your wood house ready for re-sale, great job getting things done 😊. It's a shame you have to mow your lawn, that sounds like hard work. So lovely to see that pretty pink flower and your fajita recipe looks yummy! Happy weekend to you too! Hugs Jo x

  3. Well.... kudos to you Kathy.. I'm keeping all our weeds down with a weedeater... and since we had that rain i'am playing catch up...lol But i do one battery at a time and i'am ready for it to run out when it runs out.. So one battery a day for me.. My plan for flowers in Arkansas with the deer was to plant plants i knew they would leave alone.. aka poisonous ones floxglove ,daffodil etc.. then anything else was going in a hanging basket.. But ofcourse i never got around to the outside of the house in Arkansas... took us 6 years to finish the inside..lol We slept in late this morning.. and now hubby is messing with his shop and tools and i have some housework to do then craftroom.. I have my next painting almost all designed... Its 12x24" i believe with koi and lilypads and flowers.. also have one of tribal looking women i'm calling 'Keepers of the Stars'.. fun fun fun.. Big Hugs! Kathy! Have a beautiful weekend! Don't work too hard at the Woods House.. deb

    1. Good morning Deb, Yesterday I did 7 batteries-a bit much, but my goal is to finish today-big food shopping trip tomorrow and monday back working at the woods house. That was a bit much for sure, today I can really feel it, I did do 4 batteries this morning, and hope to finish up late today.
Your new paintings sound wonderful, I am looking forward to your Keepers of the stars especially.
beautiful weather here this weekend hugs

    2. Ofcourse I'm in no hurry to finish.. just want to keep the weeds beat back until we do something with the yard ... hopefully start on that over the next 6 months.. and some fencing. AND some guttering on the house.. always something and everything costs too much.. and we are getting too old to do it all ourselves.. But my SunFlowers look spectacular... I have your seeds all ready .. just need to write you a snail mail and i'll send them.. Hugs! deb

    3. here we bought leaf guard to go over the gutters that were here-great product especially if you have trees around the house as it keeps the leaves and debris out of the gutters. I agree everything is just too expensive any more
thanks in advance for the sunflowers-I love them and haven't planted them in awhile.

    4. I was thinking perhaps you didn't have trees with the new sub division-you may need to plant some or perhaps large bushes with flowers would be nice hugs

    1. we were paying them to mow-but only after the job was done each time-so no money lost. I got it all finished late today.. this wouldn't be so bad if the grass had not gotten so tall and thick-I won't let that happen again.
I am working on not getting overwhelmed-there really is so much to do in the coming weeks-hugs

  7. HI Kathy. It sounds like you've been very busy. Cutting grass with a weed cutter must be a lot of work. I have a battery powered cultivator I bought that I really like, and I told the hubby if he got a battery lawn mower I just might even cut the lawn. Smile. I hope you're not just working and working and have a little time to enjoy the end of the summer heat, even if being in the 90's is a bit too hot. Enjoy your weekend. hugs-Erika

    1. a battery cultivator sounds neat, didn't know about battery lawn mowers-it is too steep here for me on a lawn mower-I may end up in the lake haha I should do a cook out soon on the weber-hugs

  9. Your gardens have done so well despite the heat and lack of rain for a long while. You will definitely have a head start on next year's gardens. I have lost a half dozen of the little transplants I moved from the back yard, so I will have to steal a few more to try again. I hope you are having a nice weekend and getting a little rest before this next week's heat kicks in. Take care!

    1. Hi Mary, I am pleased with the flower garden, I did lose allot of plants early on but I think the perennials should make it through winter. I am pretty much working all weekend-ugh You take care too hugs

  10. Wow, you did some workout there!
You have lemongrass?! Wow. Me, also - in a glass I bought last year - still good to use.
Deers, I let mine out, too. As in winter house shoes.
Your dish looks super-yummy! I plan on cooking today, too, for Ingo as well. Eeek, hot butter hence.
I am late again - a happy start to the week!
    Love your last pic, hugs!

    1. Good morning Iris, I always say never late in blogland-hugs-You are a busy with your job etc too. This is the first time I have planted lemongrass-it was a tiny plant when I bought it at the Amish greenhouse last spring. I have been cutting a few leaves and drying them for teas. Have a good week-hugs

  11. I would have been here sooner, but your blog wasn't showing on my left sidebar. I have been sick, was called about jury duty, and am very behind. It took me over a week's worth of posts to find your last comment so I could visit.

Lovely echinacea. I hope it reseeds. your perennials are beautiful. I'm going to bring my lemongrass in over the winter, but mine is much smaller than yours. Beautifil lake shot, too. Happy weekend, dear.

I was so happy to see this echinacea bloom-hoping it will spread next year. I will try more from seed too next spring. Yes the lemongrass got really large, but we did have rain through the summer months.

  12. I saw your comment on the Art Fairs and was wondering if you have ever been to War Eagle? It was quite good and I think the artists were juried in order to participate. I believe Deb went there one year when she lived in AR. A small town near Kansas City used to have a great Renaissance Fair I attended each year when I lived in Webb City, Mo.

    1. No we haven't driven to Kansas City area-it's almost 3 hours away from here I think. Larry isn't healthy enough any more to walk around an event like that, and I wouldn't want to go by myself-sounds fun though

  13. Oh my the 90's Kathy...that seems so warm for this time of the year. Sorry to read that you are mowing and not the fellow that said he would :(! Shame on him. Your photos are beautiful friend. I have never been able to grow echinacea very well. I think they are so pretty. Glad you are seeing one from planting a seed. Well take care friend and have a great week. Hugs!
