Hello Friends, Popping in to stay hello and Wow September has really flown by here. October is one of my most favorite months though, so I welcome it's arrival. Here in the midwest the skies are a gorgeous blue along with the autumn colors and October is mine and Hub's birthday month too.
We have had gorgeous weather here-highs in the low to mid 70's F still, with night temps getting into the 40's and 50's F so for me perfect weather.
I am still driving down to the woods home packing up Larry's scope shop-this is really a huge job. I wish my friend that comes to help me (we do pay her for her time) could spend more hours in one day, as it costs me gas to drive there, Larry doesn't want me there by myself working, so it's slow going.
I feel like I am working again haha. I was a telephone operator with the phone company years ago (started there when AT&T and the Bells were two different companies-I retired in 2003 and by then many of them had merged back together again with southwestern bell buying AT&T. They kept the AT&T name for branding and better recognition) I always had to drive at least an hour to get to work-more time in the winter months, so since I am driving at least an hour again to the woods its feels like I am back to work.😀
Haven't had the energy for much else, but I am still spinning a bit each week. I am liking my spinning so far both on the bison yarn and the merino-silk yarn. So I am finally seeing improvement for nicer yarn.
This morning just as the sun was coming up the fog came in on the lake-the lake is much warmer than the air temperatures now. I captured some nice photos early this morning. Those Ozark hills on the other side of the lake from us almost look like mountains amongst the fog.
(photos will enlarge just click on them)
Wow, I love your last picture! Fog can create some unique, but beautiful pictures. Happy October, Kathy! What a great month for a birthday. I missed it by only 20 minutes, but my mother always said she was happy she didn't have a little spook. I am up to my eyeballs in washing windows and curtains. Who wants to look through dirty windows when there is so much beauty going on right outside them.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Mary-Oh no I cannot believe I forgot about your birthday again-was thinking it was end of November so I didn't check my calendar this month-apologies again. I have washing windows on my to do list too-maybe I can get to that today.or next week for sure-warmer temps coming in hugs
DeleteI hope you can rest a bit this weekend, you have been working very hard! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletethanks Valerie, I am getting a bit overwhelmed so much to do here at the lake here too before cold sets in hugs
DeleteLooks like that you have been busy...take it easy and slow. Happy October, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteyes so much to do Happy October
DeleteSo you join your Bitrhdays with my Brother and little Niece :-) Oh, and my T!
ReplyDeleteAll the work you have to do. Hope it´s done soon!
An hours´ drive one way?! That is... annoying and dangerous, and expensive.
Love fog, hope you had a bbq!
Hugs to you and the lake!
good morning, yes there really is so much to do. we had too hot of a summer to do anything, and too much rain and cold in the spring. I love fog too except I won't drive in anymore. no bbq yet hopefully today hugs
DeleteHave a nice weekend.
ReplyDeletethank you much-and you as well
DeleteHappy October! Lovely misty photos
ReplyDeletethank you enjoy October
DeleteBeautiful photos Kathy.. I remember the fog on the lake.. Hubby and i often stopped and took pictures and watched it ebb and flow.. just breathtaking.. and worth just taking a moment to look.. I wish you a safe and speedy time at the Woods House.. Maybe hubby can come sit with you? Maybe give you more time there.. ?? Or maybe his health issues will not allow that? We are cooling off nice at night.. Some 50's and low 60's but the days are still hitting 90... but once that sun heads down you tell its cooling off.. Some days in the Summer it will stay 90 til midnight! So this is much appreciated.. I'd LOVE the 70's like what you have!! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteHi Deb, fog over the lake is really special to see.
DeleteLarry tires out too fast, so it's better he not go unless he is working there too. We are standing 4 hours so I am usually ready to go home, but I would take a break if we could work all day instead.
I remember when I lived in NC the summers were so miserable-same 90 degrees at night with humidity ugh that was awful so I can relate. I am Loving the 70's so much hugs happy weekend
Those fog photos are beautifully atmospheric. I know what you mean about energy. I have pneumonia right now and zero energy. And driving -- gas is pricey, although it is coming down, fortunately. I don't really mind (I'm one of these people that thinks if it cost more, people would drive less, more slowly, or smaller cars or find alternative transport and that would be a super plus for the energy situation. But when you have to do a regular commute, it counts up. I hope you can get the work/dissembling done as quickly as possible. Take care.
ReplyDeleteOh No so sorry you have pneumonia-please take care of yourself.
Deletegas is really pricey but less in this area than some.places. take care of yourself-huts
Happy October to you, dear. Happy birthday a couple weeks early.
ReplyDeleteI was in a civics class in high school when I learned about why AT&T was forced to break up into the baby bells. We learned about why the government first allowed (and sanctioned) the monopoly, then took the privilege away. We spent weeks talking about monopolies, the how and why. It was a landmark case in which AT&T was only allowed to sell long distance services, but not local ones.
When I did my internship (required to graduate with a Ph.D.), I worked at AT&T in Omaha which made the phone equipment. The FCC allowed them to continue making phones, although the name was changed to Lucent Technologies. So glad you brought this up because I have never mentioned this on my blog before.
For me, fog is hard to photograph. It is mesmerizing, though. Have a great week, dear.
Good morning, thank you for this Elizabeth-I had forgotten about AT&T and all the Bells being all one company-long distance and local before what I mentioned-I guess they were a pretty huge monopoly in the beginning before the forced break up
DeleteFog is mesmerizing we have been enjoying this scene for several days now- happy new week hugs
The lady who was supervising my internship worked at Bell Labs in New Jersey. Se had been a student of one of my professors who put me in touch with her. She agreed to supervise me, even from a distance. She flew out a couple of times to see how I was progressing. She also had me fly there twice. I got to see the Bell Labs where they did a TON of research. At the time, they were doing a lot of cognitive studies. What a dream job, since I am into that type of research, too.
Deletewhat an awesome experience Elizabeth! thanks for sharing with me. I retired with 25 years but I was always an operator-started out on cordboard haha that was acutally so much more fun and interesting than when that went to a computer desk to take the calls
DeleteI had a friend whose sister was a few years older. She was a phone operator. She said the hardest part was having to look up a phone number for a customer. She was glad when they started charging customers for the "privilege." Did you ever have to do that? She said you had to be incredibly fast.
DeleteI started out on cord board and I really loved that office allot, not boring at all-my sister was killed in a car accident back then,(we were living in denver colorado) so I moved back home (Indiana)-back then being all one company-I was able to transfer to a long distance office in South Bend Indiana over the weekend report on monday-so no loss of time, years later when I met Larry, I was looking for a transfer to Illinois to be with him, and the only office with no fear of being downsized was looking up phone numbers-I did not like that job at all, people were difficult, and one would need to know the area to help the customers fast-they would use nick names for things. being a phone operator was fast paced-we had to be fast
Deletethe last year before my retirement they closed an office that was handling chicago that got transferred to the office I was in-that was a horrible experience, mostly calls from the south side and I didn't know the "language" there for things thankfully I could retire after a year of that. thanks for memory lane haha I retired just before things were changing fast for operators-needed less and less operators-I retired at the perfect time not to lose my benefits.
the last office I was in got closed down a few months after I retired, everyone could go to downtown chicago-a year later they closed that office and everyone lost their jobs-wouldn't let them transfer to another area of the phone co that was sad
That lakesmoke is amazing. You captured some super photos, Kathy. I hope it all continues well with your cleaning out. It is a never ending job, isn't it? Life has been crazy at my house, so I am sorry I missed stopping by yesterday. Enjoy your Sunday. hugs-Erika
