Feels Like a New Week Today

 Good morning Friends,

The lake was so rough since early Friday and total bonkers all day and late evening Sunday, that today feels like a new day and a new week. I'll take it haha.

When we moved to the lake neither of us had any idea how rough the lake's waves would get on busy weekends during the summer. It started getting much worse during the years of covid as the blue states with their ocean boats decided to buy up property here on the once family-fishing lake at Lake in the Ozarks. It is really sad to see this play out. It is what it is, reading comments on the lake groups on facebook many had major dock and boat damages from this onslaught on Sunday. It was so loud and nerve racking that I closed up the blinds on the wall of windows, and could still hear the roar of the waves and boats anywhere in the house.   The casino will begin building soon as well. ugh

Enough of all that, I was planning to start working on weed eating or killing areas of grass and weeds today but it looks like it could rain any minute. So I will need to hold off on that project for another day.

We enjoyed having our new friends Dusty and Mary over for baby back ribs and fixings yesterday afternoon. This morning early the guys went out early fishing. So glad Larry now has someone nearby to go fishing with. I may even try fishing one of these days. Calmer waters lets us fish off the dock.

I know fall is in the air as the eagle pair has been back in their spot singing early mornings now-I had missed them while they were raising their young.

My spinning is better this time around. I enjoy using the drop spindle.  You can see some of the bison yarn in the back. This orange-yellow-white yarn is a very soft merino and silk. Finally getting the yarn finer and not so bulky.

Last week I worked on my late sister's poetry and writings. I have been wanting to publish it for her, but after sitting down and really reading all of it, most of the poetry was about her personal life struggles during college and the two years after before her tragic car accident. I saved nine poems, two were published already in a college book of poems (I did get permission from them to re publish) and I still have the pretty art work that a friend painted for me years ago for the cover-she gave me publishing rights for that as well.  After all these years (since 1979) I was truly ready to say goodbye-hadn't realized what a burden that has been all these years.  I shredded all of her personal poetry, and this time during re reading found a note from her that she hoped no one would find those more personal poems.  So they are no more.
I just ordered a barn wood frame for the artwork and will include her sandpipers poem on the back. Growing up as children we often camped out at the Indiana Dunes State Park where we would enjoy watching the sandpipers running into the great lakes when waves receded and then get chased back as the waves moved in on the sand. Good memories.
I may hand write out the nine poems into little books and possibly share those with friends. One of my blogging friends mentioned that she knew someone that did that-hand wrote her poetry into little books and then sold them Loving that idea-I won't sell her poems but will gift them instead.

The cooler mornings last week gave us some pretty views-early mornings

Enjoy your week

  1. Yeah those big boats can suck the joy right out of living on a lake.. No one cares whose peace you might be disturbing.. they just want to do what they want to do.. Same with the four wheelers around here.. Zooming up and down.. up and down the roads all day and into the evenings.. They buy these 4 wheelers but own no property to run them on .. so they run them up and down the road in the community.. Was hoping to find it was illegal but from what i can find its fine to do that in TX.. people... Where do people get the money for those things??
Your yarn is looking lovely... I'm looking forward to seeing what you make with it.. I'd say your sister's poems were in safe hands! I'm sure whatever you do with them will be perfect! Missing you at the T party again this week.. I do hope you'll come back soon! Hugs! deb

    1. It is sad to me what most of society has become these days it's always me first in everything. Have you checked with the local police or sheriff about the 4 whelers? that would be nerve racking as well and if they don't live there they shouldn't be there
thank you I feel good about my sister's poetry-a weight has been lifted that I didn't realize was there all these years.
ah thank you for missing me at T-Nice to know someone might miss me-hugs

    2. Oh the 4 wheelers are from people who live here.. Alot are kids... I think they have to be 11 to ride it.. and i think they have to have special tags or something on it.. so could get nit picky about that.. Those 4 wheelers are noisier than regular vehicles in my opinion.. I wonder if anyone else complains... ? ya know or are we the only ones it bothers.. Wish we had known about the 4 wheeler culture around here before we bought here.. Oh well .. won't be long and we will start on our fence.. may help some.. YES consider yourself missed woman!! Oh Psst.. my napkins from the napkin exchange came in the mail yesterday! Now i have to figure out what to do with them..lol Hugs! deb

  2. I can imagine how distresssing it must be with all of those speed boats racing about. Glad you are getting on with your spinning. It's nice to have friends visit, too. The views over the lake are beautiful. Have a great day, stay safe, hugs, Valerie

  4. I adore the mist/fog over the lake. What a fabulous view.

Nice to have company over the holiday and nice Larry can have a friend fish with him. I think it must be wise to not let those poems get out if that was your sister's request.

    1. I love those views too-so mystical. I agree, I just found that note when I re read through everything-so I saved the 9 poems that were just poetry--and shredded all the rest-filled the shredder basket-I had made the decision not to and then found her words so that settled it-hugs

    2. Now you have shredded her poems she didn't want others to read, you should use those shreddings to make handmade paper.

  5. I am shocked that that kind of thing was going on on your lake! Is there no Marine patrol on your lake? Boy that would not fly on this lake. Glad you have friends to BBQ with and fish with sounds lovely. Your wool is beautiful ! I am thinking of trying to knit again this year who knows just the wool is so expensive.

    1. Yes there is water patrol here part of the state highway patrol but there are only a very few on this large lake and all they do is answer calls, this is also handled by the coast guard but they don't do anything either-if they gave out some warning tickets at least I think that would help there are quite a few deaths on this lake too-something needs to happen.
I know everything has gotten so expensive, if you have a thrift or resale consignment type shops near you sometimes you can find nice wool yarns there. I was looking for a couple new rubber mounted stamps for christmas and couldn't believe the price hike on those too.
I am so happy Larry has a fishing partner now

  6. Wow! I love your last picture! Your yarn is turning out beautifully, even though I also liked your rougher yarns too. Little books with your sister's poems would be a beautiful way to share her work. It sounds like you had a wonderful Labor Day. Baby Back Ribs and fixings sounds like the perfect way to celebrate summer's end.

    1. Hi Mary, thank you so much that photo did capture the morning well. I am pleased with this latest yarn too, nice thing the yarns can all be woven into something-the more bulky too. Cathy had mentioned about a lady that sells her poetry in her hand written little books-love that. it was a good labor day feast-hugs

  7. Really sad with the lake! Oh, how come I pop by only now?! Work is unnerving atm....
    The yarn looks good!

It can break one´s heart to read about your Sister and how my Brother - living more or less just around the corner, ignores me.
Great idea to honor her like that - much better than print, I think.

    Beautiful misty lake pic! Hugs.
