Happy Friday,
I am thinking the majority of us no matter where you live are experiencing heat waves this summer. The Missouri Ozarks area is known for these extremely hot and humid summers which I have noticed occur after a rough winter. We moved here in the fall of 2003 and this is probably the third of those very hot summers. So this is really normal for this area. (sorry I do not believe in the climate change theories that are being shoved through congress, the earth evolves which it has been doing since God created it-my personal opinion)
When we moved and retired to this area from northern Illinois-our small farm property was just a few feet from the Wisconsin border-the biggest change for me was learning that the sun is lower in the sky here in the Ozarks then what we were used to, so the sun here has always been too hot for me. Thank goodness for air conditioning. I am so thankful for it.
At our ages-mid 70's-we do what we need to do outdoors very early in the mornings, before sunrise and need to get back indoors before 9 am it's just too hot after that.
So what have you been doing to stay cool?
I am "making" myself drink more liquids, which I don't do generally. I remind myself now that when I am feeling thirsty I need to grab a glass of cold tea or water.
I also don't eat allot of fruits, but I think they are perfect for these hot summer days. We have been enjoying fresh strawberries, blueberries, peaches, and I am getting ready to cut into a honeydew melon. With it being so hot and dry here, I have not seen any nice watermelons.
Yesterday I also churned up a batch of keto vanilla ice cream that I also mixed in fresh berries. That one should be good, I will make a second keto ice cream tomorrow with a different flavor. So we will have a cold treat.
When the weather is extreme like this I have a difficult time getting into any projects-seems perfect though- being stuck in the house I could be weaving the towels that are on my loom, practicing the sashiko stitches on a sampler, creating a journal page or painting instead I have been reading-allot.
or this might work to keep us cooler
Happy Friday and weekend everyone
What a great post for a hot summer’s day! How are you missing those oh-so- sweet and juicy Missouri water melons? We just finished our second one in a week, and now wanting another. I will stop by a little later for a dish of your homemade ice cream (via email) hilltoppost
ReplyDeleteI know the couple of stores near me have this tiny watermelons for a very high price, this ice cream sounds delicious with the strawberries and blueberries-stay cool hugs
DeleteKathy I tell you that here the temperature goes from below zero to 13 ° because we are in winter. But the meteorologists tell us that our summer is going to be very hot. Climate change will surely modify the entire planet Earth.
ReplyDeleteSee if you have comments in spam. From the blogger forum they told me that this currently happens very often
thanks, I do check the spam folder allot there is one person that is always in there for some reason
DeleteThat Keto ice cream sounds good. I bake with these recipes and have such good results. I guess I need to search ice cream recipes now! Enjoy your weekend. I liked seeing your art in the previous post too!
ReplyDeletethank you so much I appreciate that-I will share the link to the ice cream recipe I use next week thursday
Deletethis is the recipe I use https://alldayidreamaboutfood.com/perfect-low-carb-vanilla-ice-cream/#recipe
DeleteI do believe in climate change brought on by human involvement ..... But either way its down right HOT!! lol You know what i do to stay cool... Get up at the crack of dawn to do 'anything' outside.. I'am not a water person but i push the water... We try to find a good watermelon at least once a week.. I think that hydrates us good.. We have been lucky this Summer.. we've had several and only one really bad one.. and a couple really good ones.. I also buy grapes quite often and they are refreshing out of the frig.. Hubs takes them golfing for a cool snack.. keeps them in his cooler. I keep hoping for a deluge of rain but so far i don't see that happening.. Check the radar once in a while for me and give me a heads up if you see any rain coming my way!!! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteHi Deb, that's what we are doing too-as soon as it is light enough I do anything outdoors then. We both love watermelon too but all summer have not found any. even in wal mart they are very expensive and very small. Larry loves grapes too. I think fruit is really good during hot days-we will be way over 100 the next 3 days no more rain in site here either hope you get some soon Hugs you stay cool as well
DeleteHave a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteI had an ice cream cone at McD today!
ReplyDeleteYum-perfect for a hot day
Deletelol, I do pretty much like Snoopy. Cool water is great :)
ReplyDeleteI love Snoopy too he's the best
DeleteLike you, I have adapted to this heat with a new routine. I water very early in the day, then go to bed, since I stay up all night. I try to do something while it's cool, but there IS NO COOL in my house, except for the office because I refuse to run the whole house AC.
ReplyDeleteIt makes no sense that we should not be doing something since we are forced to be inside, but like you, I find instead of doing something constructive, like cleaning my flooded basement, or creating art, I am watching a lot of tv, which I NEVER do. Enjoy your weekend. I think Snoopy knows best!
I think this extreme heat is very difficult for most of us, especially as we get older it's not safe either. that's smart to sleep during the day and work at something at night when its a bit cooler I have been watching more tv too
DeleteI love Snoopy stay safe
Stay hydrated is my only way to keep cool :-) We had 2 days of 35C this week, then it suddenly got really cool and wet..I even needed to have my pullover early morning and a thick blanket for the night. Thank you for sharing, Kathy, and I wish you a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend Angie
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI hope you are finding ways to stay cool. We usually always try to get in an early morning walk, it is too hot and humid to be outdoors later in the day. Hubby and I have been enjoying all the summer fruits. Take care, have a happy weekend.
sounds like us, we enjoy a few hours early mornings and then back in the house it's just too hot here too. summer fruits are the best-Happy weekend
DeleteI feel cooler just looking at the Snoopy cartoon! lol
ReplyDeleteAwful heat here in Vermont. I am on year 2 of no air conditioning. Others, some older, also don't use A/C.
In general, the heat overall doesn't bother me like it did when I used air conditioning. Indoors at night is when room temperature goes up, (86°F one night). I take extra caution, opening window to let in cool air, an extra fan, drink cold water, and use a cold pack on my neck. If I feel lousy. I take a cool shower. Those nights are not frequent.
Still, I have the feeling that next year will not be year 3 of no air conditioning.
as we get older I think we need a/c for our health during these extreme heat days-happy weekend
DeleteHere on the coast, we stay cool and cold year round. So please find that cool place and be safe over there.
ReplyDeletethank you happy weekend
DeleteKathy we have been warm here as well but nothing like you are experiencing. I was just saying to hubby that when it heats up like this all I want to drink is water. I too am struggling to get much done when it is this hot...reading is my go to when I need to escape the heat. Take care sweet friend. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteYou could see me laughing about Snoopy, the best comic dog ever.
ReplyDeleteThank you by the way for your lovely comment. It's wonderful, on my opinion to find other interesting Blogger.
I love Snoopy too-he is the best thanks so much for visiting hugs
DeleteOh, Kathy. Answering yout title... by putting on a long-sleeved shirt.
ReplyDeleteStill too cold right now, 66F.
I´m with on the climate change thing. Climate, as everything in life changes and it´s ridiculous how some countries try to be "good" when much, much more bigger countries just don´t care.
The Friday for Future kids saving the world by littering the streets with coffee-to-go cups is just the best example.
Rant over.
Ingo found local cherries - a treat! Fresh from the fridge. Or apples. From the fridge.
Hups, Friday? Sunday here already... Anyhows, a good one and hugs :-)
agree with you Iris. sorry it is cool again for you-but I am looking forward to cooler fall temps I love the 60's and 70's awesome I love fresh cherries too, and apples Hugs have a good new week ahead Iris
DeleteI don't have AC so I'm making sure I drink a lot of water during this heat. 99.99% of "Climate Change" is due to the Planet, but that doesn't fit the money making agenda for the Elites, so... And those Elites are happy to add carbon taxes, etc. to We The People, while other countries do nothing about their emissions. I'm all for humans not polluting, littering, etc. yet I saw plenty of covid-19 masks on the ground, thrown away as litter. Oh, and they changed the name from "Global Warming" to "Climate Change" to cover the cold Winters. Some people still remember them saying a new "Ice Age" was coming, prior to their story changing to "Global Warming".
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you Anne this whole thing in my opinion is just a power grab to destroy America The infrastructure is not in place for electric cars, God gave us oil we need to use it instead of begging the saudi's for it
Deleteoh and sorry you don't have a/c here where we live now it's really a necessity like heat is. we never used a/c til we moved here have a good new week ahead
DeleteI've been drinking lots more water this summer -- it's so hot and it just tastes cool. And fruit. You are so right about how the light looks and is placed differently -- even here at the lake, only 160 miles north of home, it stays light later and the sun seems in a different place. These days, if I'm getting our for walks it had better be early in the morning because it's just too warm later! Have a wonderful week. (We don't have air/con here or at home and mostly don't need it. Still... sometimes it would be nice!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Sunday, so you glad you stopped by. Yes it took me a bit when we first moved to Missouri why the sun seemed so much hotter-we were closer to it. this has been a rough summer, I really need to get back to walking again. I live on a circle around the point on this area of the lake, it has two steep hills to walk as well. good exercise-will wait til it cools down more. have a good new week-hugs
DeleteLOL Nice to see Snoopy staying cool.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
