Early Morning Views

Good morning,  We are in a stretch of very warm days this week, today another 100 plus degree F. Early mornings begin in the 80's and humid.

We throw out a bit of seed on the deck and railing to enjoy the birds up close-but that has also brought in way too many squirrels. There are little to no predators here so they can really just take over. It's kinda funny but we have to guard the seed from them for a couple hours so the birds have a chance of getting any.

One of the birds we enjoy watching is the red headed woodpecker. Sometimes we see a pair together-only difference is their size and we think we have two pairs. This morning-a sweet surprise-a young one.  We decided to sit outdoors for a bit with our coffees and I grabbed my camera. If sitting still the birds will come, and Not the squirrels.

This was special watching this young red headed woodpecker, very active.

Excuse this poor deck-it needs replaced badly, can't think about that til we get the woods home sold

It was special to see the young one with an adult

This morning's sunrise was very similiar to yesterday-hazy

Happy mid-week & Food Wednesdays previous post

  1. What an absolute joy this must have been! We do get woodpeckers but this red headed one is especially pretty.
Having looked at the forecast for Paris next week I have found that it may be 93F - we may spend more of our time in shops with a/c!!!! In 2019 the we were there it went up to a max of 105F - way out of my comfort zone so I certainly don't envy you with your rising temps! Take care.

I had hoped to join you for Food Wednesday but have been getting bogged down trying to keep up with commenting!
    Hugs. Chrisx

    1. We have really enjoyed watching the red headed woodpecker this summer-and he was here last winter too-we also have the red bellied, downy and others here. yes these temps would feel even hotter in a city too-shops and cafes will be perfect. we were 104 yesterday-pretty hot
sometimes we have many life activities that are even more fun than being on the computer-check my food wednesdays post though as the format has changed for next week

Super HOT here 105 F today. BUT we do not have the humidity that you have and to me thats makes a HUGE difference.. Stay cool my friend! I'm off to browse around in cool Hobby Lobby...lol Hugs! deb

  6. How fun to watch the birds. We stopped feeding this summer as there is a lot of avian flu around here and when we fed there were flocks of birds coming and it is very expensive on top of that.
No food to show I ate it, steak on the grill with baked potato just the best.

    1. yes the bird seed is very expensive and here at the lake house I can't handle the 50 pound bags from the mfa so it is more expensive in the smaller bags. it's something we really enjoy-if we just didn't have so many squirrels to deal with. I was hoping to get our grills going finally here the heat is too much over 100 again today

  7. Oh, how nice! Beautiful birds! A couple of weeks ago when off to the summer party I heard one, but could not spot him, sadly. I´ve never seen one for real, so, thank you for sharing, Kathy!
I know you don´t like the warm weather - you would love ours, I sit here in a jumper and feel still cold. Only 57F. Summer?

  8. It was 107 F at 2 pm Wednesday. And I am trying to do things that don't require me to be in the heat. Sadly, I have to water my plants at least twice a day in this heat.

What a beautiful woodpecker. Never seen one with a red head before. You are really blessed with nature all around you, Kathy.

  14. Kathy we have several couples of these birds in our woods. Seen a fledgling just the other day too. Amazing how when they age their heads become red. Looks like the haze we are getting in the early mornings here when the heat rises. Have a blessed weekend. Hugs!

  16. Wow, how wonderful to see the woodpeckers and their baby! Thanks for sharing 😁. I hope you are keeping well and many apologies that I haven't been visiting, what with having a terrible cold and then afterwards having friends over (with decorating to finish and cleaning to do before their arrival) I didn't find any time for blogging. Take care and sending you happy wishes for a wonderful week! Hugs Jo x
