Weaving Video

I was taking a little break to stretch my back and decided to take a little weaving video. This is about sleying the reed on my floor loom

and here is a  photo I took previously on what each set of two threads looks like-they must be in order and slide freely

There are 408 ends (threads)  5 1/2 yards long which will make 6 kitchen towels

  1. Thanks for sharing the video. It certainly is a lot of work to weave like that, but worth it for the beautiful results.

  2. Interesting video, thank you
Weaving isn't easy. I guess going by directions carefully, it gets easier?

    1. It was my mistake I didn't read the instructions well, I had it in my mind I needed two threads per slot when I needed 4 threads. I have not woven much in about 5-6 years so I just jumped in without reading the pattern well

  4. Your long hours of hard work will soon be rewarded when you have six beautiful kitchen towels to show for it. Your videos certainly are helping me understand the process. I can’t imagine working on a larger rug size loom. Thirty inches seems the perfect size.

    1. Hi weaving is not really complicated just a process to get set up--I never could master crochet or knitting-that was complicated for me haha

  8. OMG, Kathy, this is so impressive! It’s also way above my head, I’m in awe. Other weavers will appreciate your video and photos, Gene, are you out there? It’s wonderful that you enjoy weaving to the point of finally getting those kitchen towels woven. I know you’ve wanted them for years. Can’t wait to see them!

  9. Weaving looks incredibly complicated to me. I had to laugh because I have crocheted and knitted, but this looks WAY more complicated than either of those.

Hope to see you for T. I miss you, dear.

    1. lol my Mom tried to teach me knitting-you made lots of gorgeous sweaters and more but I just didn't get it--when I was out in Colorado in the late 70's I took a couple weaving classes in a small shop and was hooked--I bought my loom and ashford spinning wheel from her at the time and the warping board too.
I am taking a break from T for awhile I still visit those that also enjoy visiting me during the week once in awhile a little less stress for me as those that don't care for me don't need to visit because I am linked to T-hope that made sense I am spending less time on social media these days and I am so enjoying my pen pals too

  11. Your relaxed way of doing this is wonderful to watch! I suppose at this stage it's more important to get it right and not rush. You could make an afternoon's worth of this and I'd still be watching! Maybe a quick switch to the humming birds while you have a stretch....only joking! Thanks for sharing this Kathy, hugs, Chrisxx

    1. Once we see the hummingbirds more often I will try to get a video of them. Yes I don't want any threading errors this time so I am double checking each pattern set. I am half way there now glad you enjoyed the video-hugs
