T Stands For Tuesday & Toured a Cave

   Hi everyone,

Tuesday brings us to T with our hostess Bluebeard and Elizabeth-find link in my side bar. Only requirement to join in is to share a drink related photo.

My sister in law was at her lake house for a week or so, and her husband drove in Wednesday evening for the Thanksgiving weekend, he needed to get back to his vet clinic Monday morning.

One day she wanted to know if I wanted to bum around with her. She doesn't like the country decor in her new lake house so she has been selling that off, and also changing up furniture pieces to make better use of their small space. One of the "big cities" near me that serves this area of the lake (an hour away) is Osage Beach-it really has everything-including all the chain stores, restaurants etc and 4 lane highways and traffic-ugh not for me unless I am the passenger haha.

The one little shop that was really nice selling antiques had the perfect thing for our Elizabeth. Melanie took a photo for me with her smart phone This horse had me smiling when I saw it.

That same day we also hiked a bit at Ha Ha Tonka State park so it was a busy day.

Over the weekend I went with her and her family to visit Jacob's Cave in Versailles, Mo. Missouri is known for it's numerous caves, this one is the largest I believe. I enjoyed the tour, we had a fun guide, but this cave was not as pretty as Bridal Cave in Camdenton, Mo but it is easier to walk through.

This is me, this is a piece that had broken off and we passed it around to guess how heavy it was. I guessed 30 pounds and it was 34 so I was the closest.  I guessed 30 because now that I am older 25 pounds is my limit  We were in a very small group which was nice, but I decided to wear my mask

This piece has two faces in it

Melanie, my sister in law, loves to get people into all the photos-she insisted I get in this one 😀

This photo shows the person's signature and date (Jacob Craycraft in the 1800's)  that the cave was discovered. This cave is still in the same family

Missouri has a fault line for earthquakes, the tour guide talked allot about earthquake damage to this cave.

We have been enjoying a gorgeous full moon over the weekend. I captured these photos with my little tree

For my beverage reference I am sharing our Thanksgiving day wine again

and while working at the computer I am drinking a cup of green tea with lemon

Since last week I am still hand stitching up the hexies-my goal right now is to complete one rosette a day.  This is what I completed so far.

Happy T everyone

  3. Sounds like you have had some interesting adventures over the past weekend. That cave sounds interesting. I haven't visited a cave in a long time so it was fun to see this one. Cool photo of the tree and the moon, and your hexagons florets are looking great. Happy December and happy T day too. Hugs-Erika

  4. I am sure Elizabeth appreciates the photo of that delightful ole rocking horse:)
How interesting is that cave - I have only ever visited one- a small one- in our area.
Great shot of the moon from your window. I made sure to go outside and see it myself but can't get any decent photos...
    happy T day!

    1. I thought of her as soon as I saw it-I loved the colors as they were a little different too.
this was an interesting cave and family owned all these years. I don't get good night photos at all with my camera either-I think getting the tree in front helped a bit

  5. Did I read $150.00 for the rocking horse? A bit too much for me, although I have some that I paid more for when I was working full time.

I have a friend who owns a cave on her land. She allowed the spelunking team from Missouri University of Science and Technology at Rolla to come in and map her cave. They only got about one quarter of way through it. One weekend, she invited a few of us to join her at her weekend home near Branson and said that anyone who wanted to explore the cave, could. There were only three of us who did, since it is an undeveloped cave. We wore head lamps and took flashlights to see where we were going. In spots we walked through knee deep water and at other times we had to crawl through the smallest of holes on our stomachs. We encountered blind WHITE bats and blind WHITE frogs. It was amazing what lack of sunlight does. It was an experience of a lifetime, and NOTHING like the commercial caves that have lighting and pathways.

Your SIL and I are completely opposite. I've waited up to 20 minutes for people to leave an area so I can get a shot with no one in the photo. Sounds like you had lots of fun, though.

Nice reference to both drinks, too. Thanks for sharing your cave experience and your photos of the trip, as well as your tree with the full moon in the background, along with both drinks with us for T this almost Tuesday, dear Kathy.

    1. What an awesome cave experience you had. I don't think most people realize how super dark caves are with no lights-the complete darkness would have been a bit too much for me.
I agree if I am taking a scenic photo I don't want people in the photos, but that's what people do now along with those crazy selfies.

  6. I don't drive in heavy traffic. In fact, I am not even a good passenger in it either. I like that your sister-in-law puts you in the pictures she takes. I really feel like I am getting to know you better. Your hexies are looking great. I need to get a project started so I can sew while I sit by the fire this winter.

    1. I am not much into big city traffic either. I rarely get my photo taken so this was really different for me.
I think grabbing the hexie project again was for the same reason to have a project in the evenings. I really miss not having a working wood stove. That was one of the reasons I really liked this house too-but we discovered the owner had a major chimney fire and needs a pipe added-and the wood stove here is really different will be a job to get the pipe fitted to it-and the couple of chimney people that came out won't do the job they want to sell us a new stove instead

I love civil war reproduction quilt fabrics-I just love the earthy colors-these fabrics were in a jelly roll set-pre cut strips that I won years ago-I was so thrilled with this win these were designed by the quilt historian Barbara Brackman

  11. The antique rocking horse is adorable and perfect for Elizabeth. The caves are so interesting to go through. My dad took us to Howe Caverns in NY and we took our girlies to Luray Caverns in VA. Your little tree is so pretty with the moon shining like the Christmas star. I have those same apples! Happy T Day!

  12. Country décor sounds perfect for a lakeside cabin :) I'll join you on a virtual cave tour. There aren't caves near me, and I do like them. I like your Christmas tree and how you placed it in the window. That wine looks like the kind I'd like, dark and red :) The pottery mug is a cozy choice. Happy T Tuesday!

    1. I totally agree with you-she changed and got rid of so many things that were perfect for her lake house-well she is from Chicago (smiles)
This is one of my favorite wines, next time I have to go to the woods house I will drive into the town where the aldi is and get another bottle-or two haha pottery mugs are perfect for now that its getting colder

  13. Great post. The photos of the cavern are fantastic. We have the Oregon Caves not far from me. About 3 hours. My mom, now passed, lived just a mile from them. We visited often, you see something different everytime you go. I really like seeing you in the photos too. Have a very nice day.

  14. Looks like you had a lovely time with your family, I would enjoy looking around that little shop too 😀. Wow, those caves look fabulous and it must have been lovely to look around. Your Christmas tree with the moon shining down is beautiful too and your patchwork looks so pretty. Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x
p.s. sorry I haven't been visiting lately, last week I was suffering with bad migraines and couldn't cope with the brightness of the laptop screen so no blogging for me - boo hoo! I'm still not a hundred percent so I probably won't be able to catch up on all the posts I missed, hope that's ok. xx

  15. The cave tour was interesting. It never occurred to me that someone would own one. I always thought of them being in national parks, etc. Pretty pictures of the moon.

    The hexies are very attractive.

Happy T-day! Stay safe and well. Hugs, Eileen

  16. What a great visit you had, keeping busy all day like that, Kathy. While I don't care for city driving or traffic either, sometimes we just have to grin and bear it, I guess. The cave looks fascinating and I had no idea MO was impacted by earthquakes!! The rosettes you've made so far are GREAT...keep up the good work!...jp

These are 1" hexies per the template I am using to cut them out, which includes seams on all sides when finished
