T Stands for Tuesday & Catching Up

T on Tuesdays is where we gather together with friends and share a post with a photo of our beverage.
You are most welcome to join us-find our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth in  link on my right hand column.

What a difference a week makes-such up and down weather here from a day at 70 degrees f back down to frigid temps and some ice with wind. We have so much mud everywhere, especially our long driveway-the worse condition it has ever been in. So much freezing and thawing and lots of rain doesn't help matters.

My eyes have much improved finally around last weekend. The second eye no longer has the white film over it, can't feel the new lens any more, and the distance vision is much better-but still not as clear a vision as in my right eye-really hoping that improves.
I can manage readers now for reading and the computer-which I just couldn't do a week ago. The doctor reminded me last week Wednesday that this was major surgery and will take time. So I have adjusted and working on patience lol  I drove to pick up our mail for the first time in two weeks this morning.

I have worked on my July pages (2018) and have those completed now.

I have been working on overlapping the elements more instead of everything just being in it's own space
July was the buck moon so I found this scrap of fabric that was perfect. The piece to the right of the moon was the cut off so I wanted to add that-but it shifted on me and was suppose to be a bit further apart and angled more at the top-decided I did not want to take out all that blanket stitch stitching and do it over
If it bugs me too much I will re do it

The piece of fabric that has July stamped on to it is a scrap from a baby quilt I had made for a friend about 18 years ago or so. I had used black embroidery thread to outline all the motifs on the fabric to quilt it-came out really pretty-a nice remembrance piece.

When I sewed this cat down that was from my Mom's sewing stash-I almost sewed it with black thread but decided to use the white thread instead

I decided to sew down a cover piece to protect my eco print page from getting torn from all the buttons and beads I just did a row of hand stitching on the top.

I did allot of eco dyeing in July and August so wanted to sew in a piece, this is one of my favorites
Update: I thought I would add a note here as I had a couple comments thinking this eco print was on fabric-this is on paper-and actually was that bonus print I got by layering this butcher paper in between the other sheets of paper for clearer prints.

We also have been enjoying a surprise visit by this handsome guy. He has attached himself to a group of does that come by for the corn. The bucks do not usually venture this close to the house so this has been fun watching him the last several days

I keep forgetting to mention about the geese and muscovy ducks that were here last year.
Usually the geese pair will stop by before they migrate on but they did not last fall.
The muscovy ducks in late fall began to be pests-then one day the female was all by herself. We have allot of predators here so the male must have been taken defending the female. After a couple weeks or so, the hen muscovy was a major pest-eating Miss Calico kitty's food, would not stay away from our front door. She really just needed a new home.
Our friend found the perfect home for her-a few miles down from us a small farm had ponds and they love muscovy ducks, had many of them and they spoil all of their farm animals. So Mrs Muscovy now has a new home I am very grateful-This happened early January

I can't tell you how good it feels to be able to read books again. I read allot in the evenings.
One thing really nice for my situation now is that I am able to enlarge the font on my reader-that is really helping me now-yeah-but I am anxious to get back to the Outlander books-the one I had started is in paperback form with very small print-patience lol

For my drink share this week, I had a taste for a drink one evening so I decided to make me a Kahlua (coffee liqueur) and cream
Instead of cream I used milked walnuts-soooo delicious (this is one of the nut milks I mentioned a few weeks back)
This was a delicious drink-but sigh for some reason I totally forgot about the caffeine in the Kahlua which sets my blood pressure to super high
I usually make my own Kahlua with decaf coffee but just didn't think about it-oh well  It was worth it though lol

Happy T everyone

  1. So glad to hear your eye sight is improving. Good that you are able to get back to doing some of the things you love. Reminds me of saying. Patience is a virtue. Seldom found in men and never in women. The July pages look great especially the black cat and cat face. Your eco dye is so pretty. I really loved seeing the picture of the deer. So cool! Take care and have a happy T Day

  2. I am so happy to read that your eyes are doing better! I think the buck moon placement looks fine, but I know what you mean about not being happy with the placement of something (I have that with my artwork sometimes, and tweak it, until it looks right). The black cat looks great with the white thread. And your dyed piece is gorgeous. I'll admit you do have a handsome visitor in your yard, so I'm ashamed to admit that here in Connecticut, some of us refer to them as rats with antlers. Just so you understand why we say that: there are now more deer in CT than when the pilgrims arrived. That's because they killed off the wolves, so deer no longer have a predator in CT, other than coyotes, who only take out the sickly ones. Deer in CT eat almost every plant and tree in sight, which is hurting the ecosystem. Don't get me wrong: I loved Bambi and think they are adorable, but I can't have any flowers other than the ones that they don't eat (Daffodils, bleeding hearts) because they walk right up to my house door and eat the flowers. Neither the males nor the females have any fear of humans in CT, and no fear of walking right up to the side of a house, to eat hanging flowering baskets. I'm glad to hear the duck was successfully relocated, and I'm glad you're able to read again. (I was thinking about you today, actually, and wondering how you were doing. I'm glad to hear there have been improvements with your eyesight.) Happy T-Day!

    1. That is sad about the deer-CT's conservation dept. needs to address that. when there are too many then not enough food for all. this happened in Yellowstone national park too with the Elk when they hunted out the wolf-now that they have brought back the wolves their eco system is now in better balance.
I am feeling better now that my eyes have improved-I was getting worried there for awhile thanks much-Happy T

  4. Good news Kathy, it was good to read that your eyes are healing and you are able to read your books again.
Your fabric art journal pages look awesome, I liked the black cat. The eco dyed piece you chose to add looks beautiful.
The deer photos are amazing and the stag seemed to be looking through your windows in one of the shots.
I've not had Kahlua in years, it does look a delicious drink.
Happy T day wishes Kathy and I hope all keeps going well with your eyes recovering.

  5. Your quilt book is look fabulous and I agree with you about that piece of hand dyes fabric. It is gorgeous and looks great in your quilt book. And I'm also glad to hear that your eyes are improving. I get why you are impatient though to be able to start reading again. Nice deer photos also. Have a wonderful T day. Hugs-Erika

  6. Happy to know your eyes are getting much better. Your fabric art is always a lovely thing to see as I don't do much fabric related art. That buck is beautiful. Kahlua and cream used to be a very favorite drink of mine many years ago. I have hypertension too so it's just as well I no longer drink it-even though it IS so good:) Happy T day!

  7. Glad to hear that you are recovering from your surgery. I suppose the waiting for complete healing can be difficult. Eyesight is so important and I know I take it for granted.
Your book is looking lovely and I really like that you decided to layer some elements. But that eco dyed fabric steals the show. What a stunning piece with that pretty border around it. Do you have any of those pieces framed? They would make gorgeous wall art!
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

    1. thanks so much Kate. The eco dyed piece is on paper not fabric-this was the sheet of paper that went between the main paper pieces-so this was a bonus piece-I really loved this one allot
No I have not framed any yet-but you are second person to suggest that I should to that-I may just decide to do that thanks
      Happy T hugs

  10. My sincere apologies for the late visit. I would have been here sooner, but I decided to eat freezer food, which included downing about a gallon of chocolate ice cream, then promptly fell asleep. Just woke in time to make coffee and join you with your latest fabric journal. It is going to be a stunner, and I like how you are starting to overlap your pieces. The cat is precious, and I adore how you shared it using white thread.

I am in LOVE with that parchment paper eco dyed piece. I can see why you would want to protect it. BTW, I like the vase of flowers, too.

Since I'm not a drinker, I'm not sure if I've ever had Kahlua. It looks yummy, but if it hurts to drink it, I can understand why you can't. Thanks for joining T this Tuesday, dear Kathy.

  11. So glad to hear that you are recovering well after your surgery, it must be nice to be reading and driving again 😁. I love your fabric pages, I didn't notice that the piece had shifted until you said so I think it is perfect as it is - I often have things on my artwork that bugs me too but then I think it doesn't have to be perfect so I often leave it as it is ...lol 😉. Wow, the deer looks so handsome, doesn't he! Wishing you well and Happy T Day wishes! J 😊 x

  14. Our weather mirrors yours with the sudden drop in temperature but without any ice or snow at all. Mud, yes, and gray dreary rain here.

Patience with medical recovery ain't easy, I know, but it sounds like you're seeing steady progress, and it's a joy to be able to read again, I'm sure. Hoorah!

I love your flower vase in your art piece. My eye keeps coming back to it :) I'm glad the duck has a new and happy home. I didn't realize you could make your own Kahlua. That sounds like fun. Happy T Tuesday!

  15. Recovering from surgery or injury is certainly frustrating, Kathy. I know what a big step it is to be able to drive again. Woohoo! I hope your recovery speeds along faster now that you can read and drive.

Wonderful page with lots of fun details. The whit thread for the cat was a good choice. Your blanket stitching is really neat. (My hand stitching is very irregular.) I love the vase of flowers - so clever and cute.

The last deer photo pose is striking. It looks like he posed for you (grin).

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx
