It has been foggy here with the change in temperatures-lake water colder than the air right now. It does make for pretty views. Today is cooler than they said it would be, but it did make it up to 50 degrees F Will not complain about that at all. Much warmer tomorrow.
Started cleaning house this morning-it needs it. Only two days left of the steroids-thank goodness
I decided to make up a chicken soup today. I found a large container in the freezer of my own chicken stock along with lots of the white meat. Last fall when I was stocking up on some foods I picked up a new to me dried soup mix. Found it on Vitacost's online site. It is by Frontier, was gluten free, and no added anything like salt etc. This was sooo delicious. As the dried veggies came to life in the stock there were nice slices of carrots-that tasted like they came right out of the garden, lots of herbs and rice etc. The dried corn was so delicious too-sweet and tender. At that time I also picked up their bean soup mix to try as well.
As this cooked up the broth was really thick so I added in salt free chicken stock in addition to what I had of my own. I added in frozen peas and lots of chicken. This was a delicious hearty soup. It made a big pot so may freeze some of it so we don't get tired of it.
I have started working on the second slow stitch bag-I am just making it up as I sew along. Am liking it so far I have lots of embroidery threads in my stash-I inherited some from both of my Grandmas, my Mom, even some from my late sister's stash. I have picked up a few variegated colors recently Also friend Deb in Texas shared some of her threads with me as well.
(oops ignore the time stamps-they don't seem to show up til I post them)
This fabric that I began stitching on first is the sun dyed piece from Pebeco sun dyes along with coarse salt thrown on top as it dries in the sun.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. We have our workers coming to tomorrow to help Larry get the lift's motor figured out to work right.
The soup looks good. Happy Feb! -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletethanks it was really good
DeleteSoup is always a good option, no matter what the weather.
ReplyDeleteWe love soups too all year long
DeleteHappy February Kathy. Soups is perfect for this time of year. January was a tough month weather wise- agreed. Now we're into some snow,; I'm not sure that is better. Your slow stitching is looking great also. Have fun and hope it stays warm for you. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThis year January was a rough month for most I think. Here in Missouri we were due for a winter-had not had one for a couple years. I can do without the ice though-tomorrow low 70's F Wow I rather shovel snow then break up thick ice when it is super cold.
DeleteHappy new week hugs
Ohhhh, that soup looks so warming!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can help me out with an advice:
Ii found dried mushrooms, "best before 9/2022" - they should still be OK, no? I mean, they are dried (and from Russia... hups!).
You make my Singer staring a bit mad at me! Kidding..
To a great rest-Sunday, I am looking forward to Djuvec rice with chicken Ingo made yesterday, yum. It sits on the balcony for keeping cold - reckon, though, you´d laugh about our "winter-temps"...30F this morning and now 35, brrrr.
Hugs to you and the lake! Pics to come?
Yes dried food items will be good for a very very long time. we have dehydraters that I used to dry a lot when we had a garden. I still have some dried pears that are still good from 20 years ago or so. just keep them in a dry place with no sun on them.
DeleteSounds like Ingo is a good cook. I am enjoying this hand stitch project very much. Happy new week hugs
I love soup! Yours looked yummy. Its a favorite for us in the Winter months. I however made wet burritos last night for dinner. I went North to Hobby Lobby yesterday morning for some supplies. It was blue skies here...and snowing badly an hour away where I had to drive. It was horrible. Glad I made it home. Was not aware it was going to snow up there, so it must have been lake effect snow. Janice
ReplyDeleteI haven't needed to drive in bad weather since retirement-a wonderful thing about being retired. I love Hobby Lobby stores especially when they have good coupons. I don't live anywhere close to stores like that sadly.
DeleteI really love soups and stews too This morning I started the crock pot with beef stew meat will add some potatoes and a green veggie and thicken it up.
stay safe hugs
Oh! Fingers crossed for that lift! Soup sounds good.... We are going to be 83F today! Crazy... even 87 tomorrow.. what?! I see our warm temps are lasting for the week then a cool down... A little odd to be so warm but might as well enjoy it... :) Aaahh.. Hobby Lobby back in the day when they had coupons... miss that... I miss Hobby Lobby when they had more craft supplies , art stuff... everytime i turn around they are cutting back on that and selling more home decor and home/kitchen stuff.. I usually get my art and craft stuff on Amazon any more.. but i still keep an eye out for clearance stuff at HL...
ReplyDeleteThe stitching on your little bags is coming along wonderful... I really love the circle and spiral motif... they are special to me.. I'm so glad you are able to use some of that thread i sent you from Hubby's mom.. .She would be so happy to see it getting used... I'm off to a birthday party today... at a trampoline park... I've never been to one of those so i'm going to tag along and check it out...lol Take care Kathy! Love to see a post from you! Have a wonderful day! Hugs! deb
Good morning Deb, wow 87 F I would not be ready for that just yet. I am thinking we will have a very hot summer since we a rough winter so far-that usually seems to be the case here in this area of Missouri.
DeleteI feel connected with friends and family while using these embroidery threads. That is sad about Hobbly Lobby-when i loved at the woods house a neighbor would drive us over an hour away to Springfield Mo when we did our taxes, and then had lunch and then hit Hobby Lobby and Jo ann's I picked up lots of beads on sale and rubber stamps on sale too-they had a little bit of any craft-sad they aren't selling that any more. I shop online at amazon too and I also check out ebay for deals, sometimes find things on etsy.
wow a trampoline party sounds like a fun party-take photos if you can.
take care hugs
ooops sorry for the typos
DeleteThe food looks great and your stitching fabulous. You are way warmer than we are at minus 5
ReplyDeleteCathy
Yikes tomorrow we are suppose to hit 71 degrees F wow heat wave-but it will be dropping back to the 40's after that. I appreciate this little warm up-all the ice and snow are gone now too-I got so cold in January
Deletestay warm hugs
If it wasn't for soup I don't know how I'd get through the cold of winter!
ReplyDeleteI agree I love soups too
DeleteI agree the food looks so good and your stitching is fabulous. It's cold here for the Oregon cost. Got snow inland about 25 miles from us. Our temp at night is around 28°F and we have been getting up to 40°F during the day. Ohhh don't forget the wind and rain. LOL it is winter.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. we got spoiled with 70 F degrees today-but going back to cold tomorrow-was nice to have a bit of a break from the very cold. ice is gone-we have rain and wind coming in this week-I don't like wind at all stay warm and safe
DeleteKathy your soup looks wonderful. I have never seen these mixes in our part of the country. Hope they got Larry's lift fixed and you had a good weekend. Hugs! P.S. you always inspire me with all your creativity. Bet it is nice to use items from your mom and grandma.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen this soup mix in local stores here, I found it online-it is a little pricey but the ingredients are high quality no added salt is a big one.
Deletethe guys are still working on setting up the lift-quite a project-we are back to cold and rain so need another warmer few days to do the concrete pad.
Yes I do love using my family's items hugs
