An Update

Thank you for continued healing prayers.

Early evening yesterday Larry was moved to an area of the hospital for therapy to be able to move around and walk again.  The injured leg can't have allot of weight on it for several months   The nurse said this is usually a 7 - 10 days stay.

There was a similiar health service for this closer to where we live, but I made the decision it would be better that he didn't have to go through being transported for an hour's drive.

The staff has been excellent of what I can see, but the food is unedible-I have never seen such horrible hosp food -I wouldn't eat it either so this is a big issue, I didn't realize how bad it was until after I made the decision for him to stay in the hosp.  I am working on getting the phone number of the social worker in the hosp. to see if anything can be improved with the meals.

I did finally get a good night's sleep last night-waiting for it to warm up so I can get back to work outdoors-so much to do, will choose what I think is the most important

  1. Hospital food is always bad. I hope the social worker can help. But at least he is where he can get therapy, treatment and not be moved so much. I think it was a smart decision. Might you soon be traveling with a bento box to leave behind?!

    1. I thought too, that he should not be moved in a vehicle for an hour or more. now if we can address the food situation Yes I have been thinking about foods to bring him I need to check with the nurses there if I can do that

  3. Prayers for Larry
Be careful out there by yourself! Don't get distracted with worries.
Be good to yourself. I applaud you for taking action on the lousy meals.
If they need help, then have them check out the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont. The food there, last I was there, is amazing. Their chocolate chip cookies are a favorite of mine.

  4. So glad to see this update on Larry's condition. Thankfully, he is in a place where he can get the therapy he needs. He is quite spoiled to having the best meals ever, so those hospital meals are going to be an issue, for sure. Please take care of yourself and get some rest.

  7. Oh Kathy why I didn't see your post before is beyond me. I am so very sorry for Larry's broken bones which is always a slow heal at our age. Sending prayers to you both. I have been in the position of a sick husband it is hard on you please take care of yourself as the nurses said to me If you get run down and sick you are of no use to him and his needs you must take care.
    sending prayers.

  8. That's good news and bad news. The food definitely sounds like bad news. But hopefully once he gets himself moving a bit he'll be home-closer to the 7 days than the 10. I wonder if you could bring him some food to eat. Take care of yourself too. hugs-Erika

  10. What a terrible thing to have happen Kathy... My thoughts and prayers are with you.. I'm so very glad you have such wonderful neighbors. I remember driving 50 miles one way into traffic i was not comfortable driving in to see hubby in hospital every day after heart surgery.. I'm so glad you enjoyed your package! If you've never used them before you will need a clear acrylic block for them to stick to so you can stamp.. Hang in there Kathy .. be strong.. and i hope you can feel this Texas sized hug! deb

  11. Oh, dear Kathy,
I'm so sorry that your husband fell so hard and injured himself so badly! I'm thinking of you! It's good that he is being well cared for in the hospital. As for the food - maybe it's not so inedible every day... it can't be that they only serve horrible food to sick people, can it? In any case, I'll give you a big hug and send the warmest wishes for healing by "airmail"!

  12. Am behind on my blog reading and so sorry to hear about your hubby falling. I will say some prayers for a fast recovery. Well I hate hospital food to begin with, so no opinion for me on this. Maybe you can bring in some food though. Janice

  16. Dear Kathy, I'm not a fan of strong painkillers either. But I don't know if I would be so brave if the pain was very severe. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the pain will subside soon!
Hugs and all the best, Traude

  17. Not sure where I have been all this time, but I have obviously missed a LOT. I'm so sorry about Larry. I hope he improves as he stays at that hospital. I hope the food situation is addressed, too. Could he be on what is called a "bland" diet?
