Hi everyone, can you believe it? Mid November already and it seems like the month just began. We have arrived to another Tuesday which brings us to T Stands for Tuesday with our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth. You are welcome to join us for T just share a drink related photo in your post.
Last week we had a few days of really nice warm weather so I did make my black walnut ink post here (you can see my cup of coffee in above photo from that post) I really enjoyed this project and have enjoyed making a couple journal pages with the ink, and over the weekend I wrote out Thanksgiving cards to mail out with my black walnut ink too. This past August I bought an inexpensive calligraphy feather pen that came in a really nice set with several nibs, bottle for ink, and a little holder for the pen. I had bought this for handmade inks. I was surprised how easily the ink flowed in the pen. So this has inspired me to play with calligraphy soon-a good winter project. I had bought a few things a year or so ago and got side tracked with quilting etc. I am ready to do this now, and am watching a calligraphy 101 class on Craftsy. Just ordered an oblique pen, nib, and ink on Etsy I had picked up a pilot pen for calligraphy with different inks, but I enjoyed my feather dip pen so much thought I would give the oblique dip pen a go. I hope I can do this.
Last week while the ink was simmering away I worked on placing more rocks on that hill I had been working on. There is a little road between this hill and those bricks behind the stones that Larry made to drive down with his Snapper down to the lake-this is pretty steep here down to the lake.
Some days I just don't know what to make for our main meal. I hadn't made chicken and dumplings in years and it sounded good to me when the weather turned quite windy and chilly last week. I made a thick chicken soup from my own stock cooked down from a whole chicken and made gluten free dumplings-Turned out really tasty
A few photos I took this past week
I can see these trees while working on the rock wall
One morning we woke up to this gorgeous pre sunrise view
Happy T and have a good new week ahead
Amazing beautiful sunrise. Lovely photos of outdoors activities. Dumplings sounds good in thick soups. Great capture of the awesome color trees. Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteGood morning-thank you so much
DeleteThe last 2 photos are fabulous. I am now dreaming of chicken soup and dumplings! Don't overdo things with the rocks! Happy T day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletethe soup and dumplings were a nice treat. thanks I learned my lesson about my poor knees-Hugs
DeleteYou carried ALL of those rocks uphill?! Wow! It’s looking like you made progress. Chicken and dumplings sound nice on this cold and wet Monday. Pretty sky photos!
ReplyDeleteYes it is tedious to get them there, but I am doing it slow
DeleteI can't wait to see how your calligraphy project comes along Kathy. Your walnut ink has such a great color and so I think what you end up doing will have the unique brown. And happy early T day. Hope you have a good one. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteHi Erika, I really love the color of the ink too-such a soft brown. have fun on your vacation-hugs
DeleteLooks like you had fun with the walnut ink and wow, that chicken soup with dumplings looks so good 😀. As always loving your views over the lake, so beautiful! I hope that you are keeping well and sending happy wishes for a lovely week! Hugs Jo x
ReplyDeleteHi Jo Yes I did have fun making this ink and using it. something I have wanted to do for awhile. Happy new week to you as well-hugs

ReplyDeletethanks Debra, I hope I can do the calligraphy the script is so pretty
DeleteGorgeous sunrise! Nice assortment of photos. Your food look delicious.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing the set up of your ink dye making adventure. I think this turned out great.
ReplyDeleteYou got some beautiful early morning shots of the lake. Stunning, in fact.
I haven't had chicken and dumplings forEVER. They look really good, Thanks for sharing your ink making, your sunrises, and your chicken and dumplings, along with your coffee with us for T this almost Tuesday, dear Kathy.
thank you Elizabeth. I haven't made chicken and dumplings in a very long time either-it hit the spot too.
ReplyDeleteThe rock pile looks like a lot of work but you are certainly making progress.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to take calligraphy but didn't get very far. How fun that you are going to use your homemade ink! Can't wait to see the results.
Your chicken and dumplings looks delicious! Now I want some.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
Hi Kate yes the rock work is a tedious as I have to walk up a hill to put the rocks in place so it is slow going for me.
DeleteI am hoping I can grasp calligraphy enough to address some pretty envelopes. I was very happy with the gf dumplings-Happy Tea
There is so much to love about this post! Surely one must put that gorgeous pre-dawn sunrise at the head of the list! You always work so hard, and accomplish so much. Your calligraphy will be so fun and I have no doubt a great success. I am closing in on finishing up with putting our yard and garden to sleep for the winter. Today was such a beautiful day here. Perfect for outdoor work. Take care tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary, I am hoping to get allot done tomorrow before the cold weather comes back so many leaves to rake up here too-not like at the woods house where the leaves were not a bother at all. enjoy tomorrow too
Deleteoh my, that pre sunrise sky is breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteAlthough i don't do any heavy lifting my hubby can vouch for the work of moving such rocks...please take care when working at it.
This sure is the time for more hearty meals and soups- and your chicken and dumplings sounds so good!
I have tried a bit of calligraphy- but it didn't quite sit with me- just a messy and wonky loving person I guess;) Happy T day!
My handwriting is not the greatest at all, that I usually print so it is readable haha-so I am hoping I can grasp the calligraphy enough to use for personal letters and cards.
Deleteyes I learned my lesson to not over do or it of it will get to my back or my knees-so I will be careful thanks Happy T
I sure would love to see that pen!
ReplyDeleteYou really do some hard work with those stones. That soup looks really yum and warming, hmmmmm, 4C / 39F right now, brrrr.
Big WOW on the lake pics! Like it´s burning.
Have a happy T-Day over there :-)
Hello Iris, yes I have to go slow with the rocks I think today may be one of our last really warm days for awhile too.
DeleteKathy the sunrise is so beautiful, seems you are still working hard in the garden, must be back breaking work, we made a rockery in england and collected the stones from the quarry!!
ReplyDeleteLove the chicken and dumplings, always a warming meal on a cold day
Happy T Day
Jan
Yes I can do just a few rocks, the challenge is needing to carry them a bit of a distance and up on the hill but I am getting there.
DeleteI love photos of both sunrise and sunset... and also seeing the real thing. We don't have much of a horizon view in either direction where we live, though.
ReplyDeletebest... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
one of the main reasons we chose this location-the views
DeleteChicken and dumplings is the Young One's favorite dish. Wonderful comfort food. The sunrise photos are awesome! Happy T Day
ReplyDeletethanks I will be making these dumplings again-so good
DeleteYour tree and sky views! Gorgeous! Getting those rocks in place will take a while, but you've got the right idea: slow and steady.
ReplyDeleteHappy T Tuesday!
Good morning thanks we have a nice day today so I am carrying lots of big rocks over to that spot-hoping to get this area done before the ground freezes
DeleteWow, those are beautiful photos (the pre-sunrise ones)
ReplyDeleteThat is quite a job you are undertaking there with the stones. In Holland there is a saying: A stitch a day will be a shirt sleeve in a year. meaning if you do one stone a day, you will get there eventually-
Your adventure into calligraphy sounds very exciting. Do show us something when you get to that stage. (I haven't seen your ink making thing yet, but will do so later )
Chicken and dumplings! Now there's an idea! I made cauliflower cheese today (in the oven)
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
Amazing sunrise…I am never up early enough. Cheers
ReplyDeleteWow sunrise photo! Good work on the stones.
ReplyDeleteConsider a small plastic mortar tub. Drill a hole in the front for attaching a rope. I used mine to drag around all sorts of stuff when I had a larger garden.
Kathy your pre sunrise photo was gorgeous. It looks like you are undertaking quite a project with those rocks. I too have played around with calligraphy. One place on the web that is great for this hobby is Postman' s Knock...been subscribing to her posts for several years...lots of great ideas and projects. Well take care friend. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI love where you live. It's nice to have a winter project. Wow Chicken and dumplings, I haven't had that in decades. LOL Your looks soo good.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day.
You are doing a great job with those rocks. Chicken and dumplings is perfect for cold days - it's good to remember old favourites. That early morning view is just amazing. Looking forward to seeing your calligraphy. Belated Happy T Day, Chrisx
ReplyDeleteHi Chris-thank you much, I am excited to try out calligraphy
DeleteThat pre sunrise is gorgeous! I like a bit of calligraphy, I did a class with a friend years ago, and have quite a collection of nibs and inks, I can't resist buying them lol. Hope you enjoy it when your supplies come. Happy T Day Elle/EOTC xx
ReplyDeletethanks-it is fun researching and getting the supplies
