Brrrr A Fall Day is Upon Us

   Good Afternoon Saturday,

Lots of rain last night, Missouri does need rain though. Since this is also a windy chilly day soup is just the perfect meal for us today. I am making us a beef soup from scratch-no salt beef broth, a can of USA canned beef, and I will also add potatoes, fresh green beans and some peas, a can of diced tomatoes with garlic, and a big handful of dried soup mix that I get from the Amish store.  I usually make chicken soup so I will need to adjust spices on this one..

I so need to go through my kitchen cabinets as the spice cabinets are packed and I can't find what I am looking for-ugh.  It needs to be done. I bought some organic dried soup mixes that include most everything but the meat but can't locate them any where sigh. Oh well I have decided this month to really clean house here-going through cabinets is my first priority before winter.

The other day I went through buckets (with tight lids) of  my rice and beans.  I don't have the extra freezer space any more to keep everything in there so these buckets have been in the basement since we moved to the lake.  I brought up 4 buckets so I can get to them easier. All sorts of different rice and beans.  Yep I am just used to always storing foods that I can make into dishes. and if the weather is really bad and I can not get to the food store I can always make us something.

I still have fresh apples and I bought a bag of fresh cranberries recently so I think I will bake us up a crisp-have not done that in awhile Larry and a friend that comes by to visit us love this too.

I did just order a digital camera this morning so I can post photos again. Hoping this one will work out as I upped the price a bit on this camera Supposed to be here on  Thursday

Recently I was not happy that another wind up kitchen timer stopped working  I was telling Larry these always lasted at least 10 years or more-not now. So he says why don't you check out the digital timers. Me-"what??"  So I chose one-and I Love it! A simple thing but never knew of these before. They are more accurate and very loud.  Do you have one of these? You can tell I don't get out and about much any more smiles.

I have started sewing my slow stitch piece into a bag. Doing this by hand as well and it is slow go with the thickness of the muslin fabric I put behind the stitches. I need to look in my stash for a thinner needle I think.

That's about it for me. I am hoping to find the Notre Dame game on the tv later today

I found this Snoopy soup mug online

Oh and my author friend that lives near Yellowstone Park posted this video about Yellowstone Park with soothing music in the background. It is not hers but I really enjoyed the scenery and the music so wanted to share as well

Have a good weekend

  4. Your soup sounds delish Kathy... what time did you say i should be over?? lol I've always used Swanson i think it is broth and i get the no salt or low salt versions... I have never used canned meat in my life.. EXCEPT... tuna and now it is in a foil package of some kind and i KNOW my mom gave us Spam back in the day... I'm always on the lookout to keep salt down to a minimum and any dried soup and spice mixes i find always seem to have alot of salt.. did you find some that did not have alot of salt?? We've actually cooked alot lately.... the cooler weather brings it out in us i think.... I made chilli the other day and Tortilla Soup... i really should think of another name for it as i put no tortillas in it.. lol Hubby made a big pot of beans... love his beans... his Mothers ... not so much... (ssshhhh)... She might roll over in her grave if she knew all the stuff hubby puts in the beans now...lol We are in the 70's during the day now and 40's and 50's at night... We just had 4 inches of much needed rain... YES! Big hugs Kathy! I hope this is the start of a beautiful week for you. Hugs! deb

    1. so glad you got rain, I only buy usa canned beef-chicken-turkey from Keystone I bought on wal mart dot com last year but I am finding them in the small wal mart store here-when you open up the cans they looked like home canned meat my Grandma would can the cans are all meat with a little fat that
spoons right out The cans have a little sea salt not a lot can't taste it comes in large or small cans the large cans are a bit much for the two of us. I also bought a couple cans of hamburger to try for sloppy joes.
I only buy no salt stocks or broth too for soups
My beef soup turned out really good We had the last two bowls today.
We have the same lows with highs in the 60s not bad today no wind-finally.
I am going through my too large herb and spice lazy susan cupboard-what a huge job yikes-but I am finding things that got buried haha
      Have a good week hugs

    2. I'll bet that Spice Hunt is like a TreasureHunt...lol Off this morning to see a program put on by our little 1st grader this morning... for Veterans Day .. Hubby won't be attending. The last 'program' type thing he tried to do was too crowded and loud and it just sets of his PTSD... Which reminds me i need to get off this computer and get ready... Hugs! deb

    1. Good evening Mary, I was so blessed that my friend and her son drove me there back in 2017 It was a memorable trip for me even though it was rushed just a couple days there. a couple years after she passed from her health concerns-so I remember her and Yellowstone now.
I got through my spice cupboards just finished-long day-but now I know what I have and it is organized better.
still cant find the dried soup mixes sigh
      Have a good week hugs

  8. Nice post. I love a good soup. Mr. M. doesn't. Who doesn't like soup? I mean really. I too have 5 gallon buckets with food storage. Can't wait until you get your camera. Miss some photos. Yes, the digital timers are pretty nice. As you know, it rains A LOT here on the Oregon coast. In fact it has been raining here all day. Glad you got a bit of it too.

    1. I always ask my husband if he is ok for soup-he is not always crazy about it either. he does love chili though.
It is hard to come by those 5 gallons buckets with tight lids any more. Years ago I bought quite a few of them from Wal mart's baker dept but they don't sell them any more. It was a good price for a couple dollars-and the lids seal very tight.
I forgot that you get a lot of rain there-I don't like lots of rain but we didn't get hardly any all summer so we need it
      Have a good week

  9. Congratulations on your camera. I was going to wait till next year to order the new one I want but given the likely tariffs your president wants, and given that this will be from China or otherwise, I expect the cost will soar even more, so I'm biting the bullet and doing it now. Your apple crisp sounds very good -- I might take a page from your book and make a couple mini-crisps for our next dinner. I have two apples and some crisp topping I froze earlier! Thanks for the idea.

    1. Good afternoon Our President is putting tariffs on products coming in-to bring jobs back from other countries back to our great country. so many American based companies have moved to other countries-we need the jobs for our people.
That's a cool idea to make mini crisps-single servings I like that

  10. We're really dry here too Kathy. It's kind of worrisome in case we don't have a snowy winter. And I love my digital timer. I'm not sure it will last longer than the wind up ones though. These days things don't seem to last. And good luck with the new camera. I'd be lost without mine. Have a super new week and Happy Veteran's day. hugs-Erika

  11. Thank you for the reminder my spice cabinet needs a good cleaning out. I think there's cinnamon sticks older than ten years or more.
    Happy new camera!
