Good Morning & Catch Up

   Good morning dear friends,

Waking up this morning-Wow no strong winds-finally. We had most of April with storms and winds so far. There was so much tree limb debris and leaves in the lake that for several days the lake was brown. Today we have a mostly blue lake again. Woke up this morning to lots of boaters very early just before dawn. One of the big bass tournaments started today.

We are headed into a warm stretch of weather today too. In the 70's F and the weekend will be in the 80's F I am planning on getting some plants dug up and moved this morning.

A couple years ago I bought and planted two forsythia bushes that have hardly grown-so I am moving those up near the house near our property line to the left looking out the front door. I will enjoy them more there too.  I also have a patch of ground cover with lovely pink flowers that  needs to be moved. It is getting crowded out from the creeping thyme,  I also have lots of creeping thyme to move over to the left side of the steps and along the rock wall near the house-like the right side is set up, and extra plants will get moved down to the lake front. This thyme spreads by roots underground so it needs to be controlled.

Larry has always loved ornamental grasses so we set up a spot near the lake front to plant some, and also near the rocks at the lake's edge. We have numerous ducks here, that Larry is hoping will nest amongst these grasses.  bought seeds of two different grasses and also ordered three small plants-all three are different species. Hoping these will not grow too slow.

Larry is doing better this week. He is eating better but still less than usual. The leg that was crushed is back to causing a lot of pain so difficult to continue exercises and extra walking. The supervisor was out this week from home care. Larry has had 6 months which is a long time for this type of care. He will be pleading the case to Medicare insurance that Larry needs another month of sessions with the therapist. The trip up and down the steps, in and out of a car was too much at the time, even though it was important to do. We will know next week if approved or not..

Thank you all for your continued support and prayers-means a lot to us.

On another totally different topic. I got an email this week that our electric co op where we get our fiber connections for the tv, phone, and internet will be dropping the tv service end of June 2025. Was quite the surprise. Their prices have gone up the last few years but for their everything package-movies and sports-they are still less expensive than Directv service. I really do Not want to go back to Directv-we had them for around 25 years or more-they have soooo many added expenses to the cost of the package.  So we are looking into streaming services with no contracts-I think this is the future of tv right now too.  Looking into Roku and perhaps adding amazon prime streaming. At least we have a year to figure this out. I have two friends that use and like Roku.

I don't have any photos to share-but the lilacs are blooming now, lots more dandelion flowers blooming too. I was able to get the area of our property here cut down with the weed eater-twice now just before lots of rain. a good thing as that area grows fast and tall.

I am gradually getting to the point I can do some things I enjoy-like spinning and writing letters. I have a niddy noddy full of the spun buffalo and shetand fibers blended with carders. Turned out pretty well considering the buffalo fibers were sold for soil improvement.  I will soak it well and see how it looks soon.

Enjoy the rest of your week

  2. I will keep you and Larry in my thoughts. You are so far ahead of us in the season. We are just getting out for under the snow. I do see starts of flowers growing so it won't be long once it warms up.

  3. We have Roku smart tvs that provide us with Netflix streaming and Amazon prime video streaming. If you don't have a smart tv you can attach a Roku box to it and use it that way.

    1. We looked at the boxes that you need to buy but what is included, and the cost of live tv shows is very confusing and we haven't found a phone number for them either

    2. It is all very confusing... We get Prime and a few others but honestly i don't find many movies on there i want to watch anyway.. We use a Firestick and use the services hubby's brother purchases.. so glad we don't have to pay for it.. If we did i wouldn't think it worth it..

  4. I'm glad Larry is improving -- that's good news, Kathy. And I love forsythia too. Today I was driving home from physical therapy and it's a gray, gloomy, windy, drizzly day. But when I passed by spots with forsythia, it just seemed so bright and alive and cheery. We need that.

I have the roku express (the cheap one) and it's fine. I have Hulu (paid for) which gets me just about everything I'd watch on "real" TV live (though with my antenna, I get all the locals and more so I could just stream the roku channels I want. It's well worth it. I cut my cable bill by more than half.

    1. thanks so much. I agree forsythia are happy blooms like dandelions are too. we are still searching about the tv we have a year to decide. I will look into directv streaming too as it has everything we want but depends on the price too

  6. We never paid for cable or basic TV in all the years married. Had a free trial. Hated it. We've always streamed. It's great. Sorry larry is struggling. I hope he gets another month. I hoped it'd be warm today. Instead the heat is on. Burrr.

  7. You have real spring if you have lilacs already Kathy. Our snow from our 9 days ago storm is now gone, and I can see my daffodils popping out of the ground. I"m sorry to hear Larry is still in a lot of pain. And I'm with you about Direct TV and all their little charges. Like renting a box for $10 a month that is now costing like $500 since we've had that service for a long time. Just let us buy the box outright for a set cost and it would have been cheaper. I've been looking into making changes too. I hope you enjoy your less windy and warmer weather and have fun out in your garden. hugs-Erika

    1. Good morning, am glad to read your snow has melted-this area of Missouri has such up and down weather especially spring and fall. 80's today and tomorrow and the temps slowly crash again next week. evenings are sill cool.
We had directv for around 25 years or more before we moved to the lake. they do have a much better channel line up though. directv has streaming now so will be calling them to find out more. all their extra fees really add up.
I think that is why many are going to roku. you can buy a roku tv or you buy the box you need-but everything you want to watch you have to pay in small packages or just the channel, lots of free stuff but very old movies-still need to find another service for other things-so I am not all that crazy about that yet.
      take care hugs

  8. Girl... i guess i didn't realize Larry crushed a leg when he fell off the wall... I know he broke a bone but i didn't know he 'crushed' it.. Well i hope he keeps getting the help he needs.. We've been warm here too and WINDY!!! All the storms went around us.. and left not a drop of rain.. They tend to go just North of us or develop just East of us and go East.. It looks like we get another chance Monday night...

I just started soaking my Red Yucca seeds last night... cross your fingers.. I put them in wet paper towels and then in a ziploc bag.. Some i 'nicked' and some i didn't.. a little experiment.. I've had a few Sunflowers come up in the yard but not in any convenient places.. I did save some seeds from last year.. i may need to start some..

We don't have a TV service.. We have something called a Firestick. Hubby's brother pays for streaming services and we are able to hook onto theirs... We get like Prime and Starz, and Paramount, MGM oh and YouTube is hooked to the TV now too.. We don't watch much anyway.. We have an extensive DVD collection that we pull from if we want to watch anything.. I usually watch YouTube videos on my phone while crafting.. Enjoy your Garden Kathy and healing thoughts for Larry.. Hugs! deb

    1. thanks Deb, since we are really stuck in the house we watch the tv in the evenings. it is all expensive. directv has streaming now and really has the best package for both of us but it is expensive-need to call and find out how theirs works.
Larry fell this morning-the one leg that was crushed and healing-will just go out on him with no warning scary. and his heart is having a diffiuclt time with all this too.
thank you for the healing thoughts.
how did you do with your art entries??

  9. Hi Kathy, there's always a lot going on in your life. We have streaming from Vodafone here, but I always have a lot of problems. I don't watch much anyway, mostly I read or paint and listen to Audible. I still have a lot of appointments to keep after being in the clinic, but at least I don't need to go far. Stay helathy, take care of yourself, hugs, Valerie

    1. Hi Valerie, change is always more difficult as we get older at least for me, I never was a tech person so this big change we need to go through our tv programs is a stress thing right now. i think the better programming will be on a company here Directv but they are always more costly.
I tried audible once and listening to books puts me to sleep haha so I read on my kindle mostly
Hoping your appt's go well hugs

  10. You sound better in your writing. Must be the sunshine and Larry eating more. Getting in the garden is therapy for sure. Too bad about your co-op. If we want TV here we have to go with Charter/Spectrum. uhhhgggg... so expensive. We do stream too with Prime. Have a great weekend.

  12. Prayers your application for extended PT is approved!
Sounds like y'all are well into spring being spring.
I've also heard good things about Roku.
It has been a year or more since I've been using streaming instead of regular television. Even though I have a TV, I rarely watch it. Once you set up what you need and want to watch, you might find streaming is the better option.

  13. I am late in catching up on blog post, Kathy, and if all our hopes that Larry gets extended benefits comes through, that would be wonderful. ice that your weather is improving as here it is still windy most days, rainy a good part of the week and not very springlike. I did see the first daffodils this week, so spring is just late. We do not watch TV, aside from some PBS shows. We have Amazon Prime but really do not stream anything from there. We have had AcornTV and BritBox streaming in the past. It always seemed there were too many choices and not enough time OR not enough of shows we enjoyed. We do have Netflix and the library has a free streaming called Kanopy which gives us additional choices with a monthly limit. We also watch films from our DVD collection.

    1. buying tv programs has become more expensive-and the old stuff should all be free. I will check out kanopy thanks
