T Stands for Tuesday & Iris's Blooming, New Painting

  Happy T everyone,
You are most welcome to join us with our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth for T  just show a drink related photo in your post.

If you caught my post yesterday, you saw I was playing with colored pencils. I also found in my stash a small handful of watercolor pencils-I am finding those very fun to work with.  So I needed more colors, the ones in my stash are USA made (they looked old so didn't know if still in business)  I searched online and found them at Blick and still USA made so I am happy about that. (no more China products for me if I have a choice)

General's Kimberly Watercolor Pencil Set - Assorted Colors, Set of 12

So I am thrilled to find these I bought their 24 pencil set which was on sale which covered the cost of the taxes and shipping so pleased with that. They were less expensive at Blick then on Amazon

I had asked Valerie if I could use one of her photos as a reference for a painting. Thank you so much Valerie. This was a castle wall with flowers growing in the bricks. I couldn't wait til I had more colors so I just went for it with the few pencils I had.  My creative muse has arrived-stress mostly gone (finally)
I forgot again to cut off the inch of mixed media paper first to fit in my journal, but I was able to cut that off after I painted this and it still looks great. I love it, but will paint this again once I get the new colors. (I only had black, blue, green, and a yellow)
I will submit this piece for Mia's flower theme over at AJJ too

all photos will enlarge just click on them

I am really happy with this piece. I don't know if I captured that this is a brick wall or not though?-I plan to look for a you tube video before I try this again.

Over the weekend I finished up with the roving I was working on and started with the blue roving-I had bought these as Yellowstone Park inspired colors and want to weave some sort of garment with them.

You can see my Sunday afternoon mango margarita there on the coffee table too.

Isn't this blue pretty-I bought it to reflect the prismatic springs there in Yellowstone

Here is another photo of my margarita

We had rain off and on over the weekend and today (Monday) too. Lots of bird activity to watch-more baby ducks, herons, the pair of eagles flew in today too.

The water was really choppy when we spotted this family-the waves were tossing them about

I grabbed the camera this afternoon and took a few photos of the pretty iris's that are blooming here now. We didn't see most of these last year as we were not living here full time yet.

and the peonies are blooming now too
This is a road we started making so Larry can drive his Snapper down the hill to the lake for fishing-instead of walking down-this area is really steep

I also picked up one of the books that Erika shared. I love reading books with  recipes and this one intrigued me as it is located in an area pretty secluded and I think was part of Scotland or still is-I just started reading it. Thanks Erika

I will close with a very happy dandelion-I love dandelions and with all the rain they are still growing here

Husband is progressing well-he is pushing himself allot-still very painful (he does Not take pain medicine) but he is out of the wheel chair, and uses one crutch or his cane for balance now.

Happy T everyone

  1. Nice photos and artwork. Irises feel like they are blooming early this year than last year. Maybe they know we need to see flowers more this year. Not taking pain medication is a choice that makes sense to me if it is all right with the doctor. Swelling thing. Prayers

And great outcome, too! Hmmm, mango!
    We still wait for rain.
Nononono, no moore books! I´m drowning already, that darn kindle takes it all ;-)
Congrats to your Hubby´s progress. We hate meds, too. We both somehow only or mostly get the nasty side-effects.
With that dandlion you were too late for a whish. I hope I find some on the way later. Feel free to ask for one ;-)
    A happy T-day to you!

    1. Yes I am working harder than before not to buy china products-I am even contacting food companies that I buy from and asking if they are owned by china or not-if they are they won't buy it again. china has bought up allot of our pork companies here.
I keep telling myself too-no more books, but we always have lived so rural with no convenient library so I buy them-I put most of mine on the kindle too except for learning books or cookbooks
      I didn't know one could wish upon a dandelion-I will do that-hugs

  9. So sorry I'm late visiting. I fell asleep and simply couldn't stay awake. I was SO tired since I'd been up all night and day.

LOVE the watercolor painting. I think you did a great job. It's wonderful and looks very much like Valerie's photo, too. Thanks for sharing it with us at Art Journal Journey, too.

That roving is wonderful, Beautiful, too.

What a lovely margarita. Even though I'm not a drinker of alcohol, it looks quite refreshing. Thanks for sharing your art and week with us for T this Tuesday, Kathy. BTW, NONE of my irises bloomed this year.

    1. thank you Elizabeth-I enjoyed painting with these watercolor pencils-less messy too then acrylics (smile) we had a couple frosts here but no hard freezes so I think that is why we have these pretty blooms-take care

  10. A very interesting post today, Kathy. I loved seeing your beautiful yarn that you have spun. The colors are gorgeous!

How fun that you are working in watercolor pencil. I love to use them to add to highlights to my paintings but I have never worked solely in watercolor pencil. I went to an art festival in the fall and saw an artist using the pencils. She was dipping the pencil tip in water. I never realized one could do that but it is such a great way of spreading the color and getting a thicker line. I don't know it if you have tried this technique but I just thought I would mention it.

Your Irises are beautiful! I am only noticing a few buds on one of my 6 plants. I sure hope more decide to bloom or it will be a disappointment. Maybe it has something to do with the two frosts we had in the beginning of May.

I too love reading books that have recipes involved. I am putting this book on my Goodreads list. If the library ever opens again I will look for it. Thanks to you and Erika for the suggestion.

    Happy Tea Day to you,
    Kate

    1. thanks Kate, I appreciate you sharing the tip with the watercolor pencils very much-I am new to painting. I will try that out for sure.
we had some cold frosts but we didn't get down to freezing so I think that helped with these blooms-and we have been cool and rainy so they are lasting a long time-we are really enjoying them
I am really enjoying this book-very large book too take care

  11. Those are really gorgeous irises, so colourful.
The roving is beautiful. I agree that the blue is lush.
I'm glad to hear hubby is improving. Is there any reason he can't have painkillers? Or does he just not want them. I know some people don't. (I don't understand that. Why suffer?)
Your water colour painting is lovely. Well done you.
I don't know that particular cook book, but I do know that the Shetland Isles are islands in the north of Scotland. (hubby was stationed there when he was a young man in the army).
Your margherita looks yummy, but perhaps I have mentioned this before: I have never tasted a margherita!

    1. Oh Wow how cool that you are familiar with the Shetland isles. this is really a lovely book-hardcover and very large.
Larry has been in pain since childhood with severe arthritis-bone on bone most of his body so he tolerates pain to a point. I am loving this blue roving too-take care hugs

  12. Your margarita looks tasty. My, that water is choppy! We're overcast here today, not no wind to speak of. So many lovely iris colors will brighten up the property while you're getting your other plants settled in. Nice! They are sooo pretty. Congrats on your hubby's determined nature. That'll aid him in a speedy recovery :) Happy T Tuesday!

  15. Lovely drawing, Kathy. You chose a neat reference image too.

Your description of the blue roving is perfect. It's beautiful.

The Snapper is a brilliant solution to the steep slope. I'm glad to hear hubby is making progress, though I wish he didn't have so much pain.

    Happy T-Day! Eileen xx
